Caveat Emptor!
Had a cold call on Friday from a lady who, as soon as I expressed some interest in their January discount warranty scheme, transferred me to a slick “closer”. As soon as I confirmed that I already had breakdown cover, he said that the Plan A Lite cover would be perfect and gave me the impression it would be all encompassing. He did not reveal that there are different levels of cover. He was keen to close the deal, but I said I would think about it, and he promised to call me back on Monday. At no time during the call was I told to review the website, that Lite was not recommended, or that there are traps in the labour cost covered.
Over the weekend, I did some research, which uncovered the following:
- the Lite policy only covers failures requiring roadside recovery. Any repair work found whilst driveable or during MOT and servicing is not covered. This had not been mentioned, which appears to be a consistent telephone sales tactic highlighted by several other reviews, or that I could have full cover at more than twice the price.
- I was assured that all repairs would be settled direct between the garage and Motoreasy in a seamless manner.
So I spoke to the boss at one of the local approved garages they recommended, who told me that the Motoreasy labour allowance of £60 per hour was well below actual and he would invoice me for the shortfall!
He also warned that Motoreasy would only cover the cheapest possible internet sourced parts and are very reluctant to pay for genuine manufacturer parts. He explained that he would not fit such lower quality parts in his business, and so he would invoice me for the difference.
Luckily, Mr Slick did not bother calling me back as he had promised.
All in all, I feel I dodged a bullet.
Do your research and Caveat Emptor!
UPDATE:
Despite the brouhaha of the PR response below, regarding what should happen, I was on the cold call from Motoreasy and nothing of the sort was explained to me at all! I was not on “an online journey”!
Where was it explained on the call that Lite is not recommended, he suggested it without mentioning any other cover levels or that “refurbished” parts are used?
I could easily have bought the cover and repented at leisure.
I also refute your earlier assertion, since removed, regarding my lack of response to your request for further details, as I provided them to Trustpilot within 5 minutes of their request.
None of my comments are incorrect, as you allege, and I stand by them all.
No doubt you record phone calls, from Raphael Cimmino last Friday, so I invite you to email me a copy of the file and then let’s reconsider our remarks.
I won’t hold my breath.
EDIT: No manager has bothered to contact me, and no transcript has been supplied.
