Hello! Can you please change defaults for host counter of maximum number of processes from the default 1000 to something like 10000 (or even more, for example 20k ~ 30k). I'm asking you about it, since for loaded servers, 1k max processes limit is too low, and though changing it with a command line in RRD is easy, a mere user wont be able to do it without knowing to rrdtool. Thanks. |

Cacti: 0.8.7d Pa: 2.4 Discovery: 1.1 I have built a cacti server with discovery plugin. The idea is to scan some subnets for new servers and add them to cacti. The first time discovery runs, it works it discovers the devices and adds them to cacti. However, the second time it runs, it adds the same servers that was discovered. Why is it creating duplicate entries? Is there a way to prevent adding devices to cacti that are already there? Please advise. Thanks, hasan |

The reason for this is most likely, that deleting and recreating the rrd file updated it to the most recent MAX setting Reinhard On 21.03.2011 19:45, a....@uk... wrote: > Quoting a....@uk...: >> Hi, >> >> I did initially create this with the default Max of 100, which I >> changed afterwards. It may happen, that the data source MAX is set (default 100), which obviously would fail. Hi, I'm trying to graph a file system usage using SNMP, from the cacti server I can see the OID data via snmpwalk: # snmpwalk -c public -v 2c omega.ukgrid.net .1.3.6.1.4.1.2021.9.1.15.13 UCD-SNMP-MIB::dskUsedLow.13 = Gauge32: 604537600 But when I configure the data source/graph in Cacti I see no data, I do see SNMP polls from cacti to the server in question every 5 mins as expected. My data source in Cacti is configured as SNMP - Generic OID Template Data Source Type "GAUGE" OID ".1.3.6.1.4.1.2021.9.1.15.13" What am I doing wrong? Thanks for any tips! Andy. |

All of a sudden, I see this problem on my windows cacti installed server: Faulting application php-win.exe, version 5.2.5.5, faulting module ntdll.dll, version 5.2.3790.4789, fault address 0x0002a2ae. Unable to run any php. I cannot even do php -help. No errors. Any ideas from the group? My windows version 2003 STD. Thanks, hasan |

You do mean "disabled"? I'm not aware of such a "function". But downed host detection may mark devices as "down"; that's a different meaning Reinhard On 16.03.2011 14:39, Ceylan, Hasan wrote: > Time to time, I am seeing that some devices are being disabled by cacti. Time to time, I am seeing that some devices are being disabled by cacti. Is there a rule somewhere if unable to connect via snmp for so many tries, then disable? If such rule exists, what is the exact criteria. I am definitely seeing this is happening and like to know why. Cacti version: 0.8.7d Thanks, hasan |

You may modify those aggregates manually. They are very normal graphs as soon as they have been created through AGGREGATE. Only in many cases, creating them from scratch is faster. But please know that Larry "TheWitness" implemented new functions, called aggregate templates, that may ease your task. To be honest, I did not yet work with those. I'm running Cacti 0.8.7g with rrdtool 1.3.8 on Ubuntu Linux. Certain date ranges on graphs don't work: the graph image doesn't show up because graph_image.php returns a zero-length response. When I have a particular graph and combination of dates, the failure is reproducible. I'm not 100% sure that it's a particular set of dates. For my own reference if nothing else, I'm currently trying from 2011-01-15 01:21 to 2011-03-15 01:21. I added code before each popen() in lib/rrd.php to log the rrdtool calls. When it works, I get an "rrdtool info FILE", "rrdtool fetch FILE AVERAGE -s TIME -e TIME", and "rrdtool graph - ...". When it breaks, I don't get the "rrdtool graph" call. One time I got an "rrdtool /usr/bin/rrdtool - " call (that was it). I'm not sure what is going on, but it's very strange. Other than the logging I've added, I'm not seeing anything, even if I turn on all the web and poller logging options. Any ideas what to try next? Thanks, Richard P.S. I tried to sign up at the forums and I never received my confirmation email. I tried clicking the resend link a few days later (today), but that didn't help either. |

Hi, Is it possible, practical, and safe (in terms of not losing data) to modify an existing aggregate graph to add/remove items in the graph, or is the only safe method to create a new version from scratch and hide/remove the old version? I have a dozen or so groups of aggregates, each pulling different data from 30 hosts, and I need to remove one host and add another host to each of the resulting aggregates. It's been long enough since I created the aggregates that I'm no longer all that sure of which steps are safe, and not nuking the data is paramount. :-) Googled for this for a while and still not sure. Any help appreciated. -- Trever Furnish, tgf...@he... |

Hello everybody No advancement here. Is there anyone willing to help? The only thing I noticed is that I am getting NaNs for the graph that should contain something (the corresponding "LVS - Connections" graphs plots something), but I couldn't make completely sense about rrdinfo output. Hello While I still wait for anyone who can shed some light on these issues, I'll report on some advancements. Any idea why this poller appears to run so slow? > The funniest thing of all is that while the graphs for the remote > datacenter are perfect, the ones for the local one are... barcode style, > so to say. The problem was the poller hitting the timeout before being able to complete. That's quite strange anyway, since while a virtual machine with four VCPUs, but only _one_ poller process was able to complete the task before timeout most of the time, a physical machine with 16 cores and one poller process couldn't. We increased it to 10 concurrent pollers and now it runs OK. - BUT - I am still to understand where the bottleneck lies. This just makes no sense at all, does it? Why a 4 CPU vm should complete in time while a 16 cores PM doesn't? In the hope of ascertain it, I ran the poller by hand. The first time, without disabling cmd.php from the crontab, it threw out errors like: > ERROR: /opt/cacti-0.8.7g/rra/XXXXX_hdd_used_1384.rrd: illegal attempt to update using time 1299493294 when last update time is 1299493294 (minimum one second step) and > ERROR: could not lock RRD The second time, I commented out the crontab line, and killed two hanging processes after waiting for 10 minutes or so, these two: > # pgrep -u cacti -lf > 4892 /usr/bin/php -q /opt/cacti-0.8.7g/cmd.php 0 44 > 4894 /usr/bin/php -q /opt/cacti-0.8.7g/script_server.php cmd They were probably leftovers of the first poller hand-run. A strace on the first returned that it was stuck at a read call: > # strace -p 4892 > Process 4892 attached - interrupt to quit > read(7, ^C <unfinished ...> > Process 4892 detached while the second, which was a child process of the previous one) was stuck on a write (!!!): > # strace -p 4894 > Process 4894 attached - interrupt to quit > write(2, "truncating signed value to 32 bit"..., 39^C <unfinished ...> > Process 4894 detached I had to kill -9 4894 to get rid of them. A subsequent hand-run of the poller completed with no error, and didn't appear to hang anywhere. Errors due to locale settings, like the following, are gone after a restart of snmpd with proper settings: > These, probably, will just go away after setting LANG properly in the > SNMP extension scripts: >> 02/28/2011 11:50:02 AM - CMDPHP: Poller[0] Host[27] DS[1299] WARNING: Result from SNMP not valid. Partial Result: perl: warning: Falli >> 02/28/2011 11:50:02 AM - CMDPHP: Poller[0] Host[27] DS[1302] WARNING: Result from SNMP not valid. Thanks in any case Ciao --bronto |

Hi Everyone, I am new to Cacti and SNMP in general. But I have been reading all day and got Cacti installed on my CentOS. I want to start with simple monitoring of the server itself with SNMP. I have followed a few guides including this: http://www.cyberciti.biz/faq/fedora-rhel-install-cacti-monitoring-rrd-software/ I am stuck where the guide says: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Click on "Create Graphs for this Host" link on top right side. Select SNMP - Interface Statistics --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In my list I only see "SNMP - Generic OID Template" and there is nothing else that has the word SNMP in it. Anyhow, picking any option and going to Graphs just gives me a place-holder for the graph and there are no graphs. It seems like I am missing a library package of php or maybe something from RRDtools. But I also see this in the /var/log/httpd/error_log: ERROR: opening '/var/www/cacti/rra/localhost_mem_buffers_8.rrd': No such file or directory ERROR: opening '/var/www/cacti/rra/localhost_snmp_oid_11.rrd': No such file or directory ERROR: opening '/var/www/cacti/rra/localhost_mem_buffers_3.rrd': No such file or directory ERROR: opening '/var/www/cacti/rra/localhost_users_6.rrd': No such file or directory ERROR: opening '/var/www/cacti/rra/localhost_load_1min_5.rrd': No such file or directory ERROR: opening '/var/www/cacti/rra/localhost_proc_7.rrd': No such file or directory ERROR: opening '/var/www/cacti/rra/localhost_hdd_free_10.rrd': No such file or directory I installed the package using Yum repository. Please advise as to how I should tackle this. Thanks, |

That was not a good idea. RRDTool only accepts increasing timestamps on update. So you will have to wait until system time >= last rrdtool update time Reinhard On 03.03.2011 18:20, Flávio Maielo wrote: > Hi, > > > > Today adjust my time and date on shell in my cacti system, and my all graphs > stopped, Could someone help me? > > > > > > best regards > > > > > > Flávio Maielo > > <" rel="nofollow">http://www.wiband.com.br/> cid:image001.jpg@01CAC076.DB80DD90 - Soluções > em Telecomunicação > > Telefax: +55 (31) 3524-3500 / (31) 8623 - 4509 > > <mailto:fat...@wi...> fla...@wi... > <" rel="nofollow">http://www.wiband.com.br/> www.wiband.com.br > > > > > > > > > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ > Free Software Download: Index, Search& Analyze Logs and other IT data in > Real-Time with Splunk. Hi Gandalf, I am using SNMP Auth Protocol and SNMP Privacy Protocol. However, I am not using SNMP Context - do I need to do something special here?
