This has been discussed on cisco-nsp as well.  Two of the ideas:
	Assuming you use a radius server that can place its accounting data
in a
	sql server, this should work fairly well for you

	If you still want to go down the SNMP path: You can poll the
	AAA-SESSION-MIB, and use casnVaiIfIndex OID which references the
ifIndex
	for this particular user..

Thank you, Ronan, for your response. Maybe, i'll need to write a script
but may i ask further that, has anyone made a similar script already?

I have tried the script as discussed in this thread
(http://forums.cacti.net/about12280.html) but did not seem to work. Can
someone confirm if this work with the Cisco router 7206 VXR as a BRAS, IOS
Version 12.4?

I suspect extracting data from your RADIUS accounting database may be the
simplest way to approach this.  You can configure the cisco to issue an
accounting update every N seconds which will update the traffic in / out
out counters for the session record in the accounting database.
Depending on the number of concurrent users N would be something in the
300-3600 range.

You could then write a script which enables cacti to poll the database
and extract traffic data on a per-user basis.  I don't know how well that
would scale however.

Hello cacti users,

I would like to better use ifAlias (as most of our equipments support
it) and update the cacti schema to make better use of it,
on a running cacti install. So my script will be SELECTS, some regexp
in python or whatever, UPDATES.
but the cacti sql schema is not easy to understand around:

snmp_query_graph_rrd_sv
snmp_query_graph_sv
data_template_data

it seems there's a lot of templating going on around text and name
fields in those tables, maybe others.
Can someone sketch me a flow between all of this, also associating
"data sources" notion in the GUI to
the tables here? Would help a lot!

        i have tried all means but graphing for snmp devices never works
        and i get the errors below. anyone to help me? But the  snmpwalk

I am trying to create some exchange templates based on data query and
data input method is " get snmp data index".

I have the xml file defined in the snmp_queries folder just like others
that are currently working. I created the data template, graph template,
and data query for this particular exchange metrics. 

However, when I try to add the device and create the graphs only for
this metrics, rrd files are not being created. 

When I run the data query in debug mode, I get this:

data input method is " get snmp data index".

Does the Apache root directory work? Say, for example, you put a file that has the following in it there: <?php phpinto();?>, call it phpinfo.php and point your browser there. What is in the Apache root, besides the file I just asked you to put there? Is there an index.html, or index.htm there? Let's make sure that is correct. When I did SLES 10.x some time ago, I did not alter the Apache configuration.

Even tho I'm running some old equipment (see subject) here I was hoping to
get this to work.
Running CactiEZ distro, with everything on default except that I decreased
poller interval.

However, when adding the device to Cacti I just get "SNMP error", running an
verbose query results in the folling output:

I have installed  a cacti to graph several equipments (AC engines).  I added a custom shell script to retrieve 3 values  and written an associated xml. I did all the templates/graph/host.  When I add a new AC server host based on the template, cacti adds all data sources and graph. So I think this part is ok.

But, I'm writing to you because I still can't get it working properly ;)

Here is the xml file:

The problem is here. Looking in the rrd files:

The size doesn't change after running poller  (cmd.php X X) from hand as www or normally in crontab.
And obviously, the graph stay empty as well. The perms looks OK, I'm running cacti poller as www-date (crontab). Other snmp monitoring are working well.

I'm running cacti 0.8.7a-1 on Debian.

Simply put, once you habe set up a data template/data input pair, you should not be making additions.  What is likely happening is that cacti is passing a template to rrdtool that is not valid and RRDTool is ignoring all data.

If rrdtool had the ability to add and remove data sources on the fly, we could correct this behavior.

the Data Input Method, many rrd files stop updating. Not only the relatives
to that Data Source Items, but also many others. Exactly, the problem
appears when adding the new Data Source Item in the Data Source. Of course,
this new graph created don't show anything.
I've searched through the web with no answer, I don't know if it is a bug or
if I'm doing something wrong.
