I just added a couple of Cisco 6509s to one of my Cacti installs and it won't generate the graphs. hello,
i must notice i have not found any templates for monitoring cpu load on bsd
machines (only HP-UX templates are present on cacti forums).
i've written a simple row which can be added in snmpd scripts or cacti data
inputs. Sadly, it takes more than 2 seconds for top to determine cpu load:
"/usr/bin/top -d 2 | /usr/bin/grep states | /usr/bin/awk '{print $11}'|
/usr/bin/sed -e 's/%//g'"
That requires to increase cacti snmp-timeout option up to nearly 2.5sec
which leads to many other disadvantages.
Can anyone point me to faster way of determining unix cpu load?
thanx

Hi Carlos, As far as I know polling is limited to the lowest of 5 minutes. There is a plugin on the Cacti forums to make this smaller. Here it is: http://forums.cacti.net/viewtopic.php?t=16482 Hope that will help. Barry -----Oorspronkelijk bericht----- Van: cac...@li... [mailto:cac...@li...] Namens Carlos Alberto Bernat Orozco Verzonden: woensdag 14 maart 2007 3:46 Aan: cac...@li... Onderwerp: [cacti-user] Faster polling Hi group I installed cacti to see the bandwith of my entreprise. I can see the graphics and it has been very useful. But my graphics are refreshed every half hour, and I've seen from another users that graphics are more detailed. I have 3 min polling on the crontab, but I can't see more detailed graphics. How can I minize the polling time for my graphics. Sorry for the dummie question Carlos Bernat ------------------------------------------------------------------------ - Take Surveys. Earn Cash. Dear All, Many thanks for your support and patience! At the end everything work. I used "Simplest Method of Going from Script to Graph" HOWTO from Cacti site and wrote a script for import my data using rrdupdate once a day. I meant to show that for the files underneath the directory: [cactiuser@mikeclx bin]$ ls -al total 188 drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Mar 6 09:10 . drwxr-xr-x 6 root root 4096 Mar 6 09:42 .. -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 36826 Mar 6 09:10 rrdcgi -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 4925 Mar 6 09:10 rrdtool -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 114192 Mar 6 09:10 rrdupdate I hope this answers your question. Well, Number 1, this is an external data source, which means that Cacti DOES NOT POPULATE OR CREATE the RRDfile. Number 2, Cacti will only view the RRDfile that you populate. You need to setup an external data source and have a script (written by you) to update the RRD. Pretty simple actually. See the Doc's site.
