Some more Info: 1. I run cacti-0.8.6c installed from tarball 2. There is no entry created for my graph in "poller" and respectively the poller doesn't try to do anything - I get an log entry like that: 03/30/2005 01:30:00 PM - CMDPHP: Poller[0] ERROR: Either there are no items in the cache or polling is disabled 3. Although there is no entries in the Poller Cash (checked via Cacti System Utilities) I noticed that there is an entry for my device in the SNMP Cash : Host: dev1, SNMP Query: Unix - Networks Stats Index: eth0, Field Name: netCard, Field Value: eth0 OID: Is it normal taking in account that my Data Query uses "Get Script Data (Indexed)" Input method as well as my Data Template? Hello, I have some difficulties generating graphs from a home-made script data query, gathering information about inbound/outbound network interface statistics. As far as I can see the problem is not related to a cacti functionality, but to the point of integration of the script itself. The problem is that I can't get a working graph for my data script query. It seems that cacti (via pooler.php, cmd.php) does not try (or try but fails) to crate any rrd database for my datasources, and respectively not trying to fetch information, update rrd database and so on. The most confusing part for me is that there is no errors, warnings or whatever information for my graph, rrd, data query, what so ever in the cacti.log, which could help me to resolve the problem. Any help or hints will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance Cheers Vlady |

Hi all, Maybe some one knows and could help me. In order to start graphing, I need to associated datasources in the data queries. However, I do not get any possibilities to choose. Below is a piece of the HTML and the 'select' is empty. <td width="200"> <strong>Data Source:</strong> </td> <td width="200"> www_req_in </td> <td width="1"> <select name='dsdt_52_311_snmp_field_output' style=''></select> </td> <td align="right"> <input type='checkbox' name='dsdt_52_311_check' id='dsdt_52_311_check' checked> <br> </td> What coud be the problem? As for the DataQuery it is an 'Get SNMP (Indexed)' and it retrieves values from the SNMP agent. It just does not show the fields here as it does with, for instance, the Interface DataQuery. -- Harrie |

Hello I have just installed cacti on debian sarge, pkg 0.8.6c-5. Everything works fine, except for the poller.php. If I try to run it manually, I get: deafneuron:~# /usr/share/cacti/site/poller.php PHP Warning: Function registration failed - duplicate name - mysql_connect in Unknown on line 0 PHP Warning: Function registration failed - duplicate name - mysql_pconnect in Unknown on line 0 PHP Warning: Function registration failed - duplicate name - mysql_close in Unknown on line 0 [ truncated ] PHP Warning: Function registration failed - duplicate name - mysql_tablename in Unknown on line 0 PHP Warning: Function registration failed - duplicate name - mysql_table_name in Unknown on line 0 PHP Warning: mysql: Unable to register functions, unable to load in Unknown on line 0 I have uncommented 'extension=3Dmysql.so' in php.ini (in both /etc/php4/apache2 and /etc/php4/cli) What else could be going wrong? thanks Regards fred |

I am setting up a few graphs via Cacti and I have a minor issue with the one I created with mailgraph: http://people.ee.ethz.ch/~dws/software/mailgraph/ I can create my graphs but to be honest they look horrible. I think it comes down to the 5-minute average that is used. The graphs look like bar charts (i.e. a distinct flat line every 5 minute interval) as opposed to smooth line plots. I have other cacti plots (load average etc) that do not suffer from this issue. My cacti data collection is set for every 5 minutes via cron and mailgraph uses a daemon that seems to be constantly gathering data which would make one think that by default it's data should be 'smoother' by default. It's minor and I can live with it but I was wondering perhaps I'm missing something here. Thanks, Dan T |

I see, thus the walk of a table starts with snmpget, I thought of snmpgetnext. Since you are not really sure if an index starts with 1. In theory it may be 'random', as long all are in order of course. Another question I have is what should be the outer tag of the XML? Should is be '<query>' or something else? The manual gives the impression of '<query>', but some available queries, like interface-xml, use '<interface>'. > Ian > > harrie hazewinkel wrote: > >> HI all, >> >> >> I am trying to use an SNMP agent connected with Apache >> to read server statistics (this is with the WWW-MIB). >> In this MIB there is a table that provides service info >> and the index (simple integer, oid: .1.3.6.1.2.1.65.1.1.1.1.1). >> The column with oid: .1.3.6.1.2.1.65.1.1.1.1.5 is a string representing >> the vritual host name. The "ucd/net SNMP Host" host template should give you the infomation off redhat server. But you will have to double check the configuration of the snmp deamon on the redhat hosts. Harrie, What you are trying to do should work provided that the indexes remain consistent across both tables. Cacti really does not care which table the information is in, which is why you have to specify a complete OID for each field. Your debug output actually does look normal since Cacti only parses the input fields when running the data query. The output fields are parsed when Cacti needs data for the graph (ie. in the poller). Just to give you an idea as to how Cacti does this, let me give you an example. Lets say that you wanted to graph 'inRequests' for the first 'www.bar.com' vhost (index = 1) listed below. To get data for this field, Cacti will attempt to do an snmpget with the following OID: .1.3.6.1.2.1.65.1.2.1.1.1.1 (notice the extra .1 on the end) Assuming that this OID actually returns what it should, everything should work as expected. I am not understanding the use of the "Script/Command" Data Input Method. It seems as though you can create a DIM for a script specifying input args and output fields, assign a Data Template to associate the fields with Data Source parameters but I do not see how to associate this with a host or Device. =20 =20 I can only associate Data Queries or Graph Templates with a host under the Devices tab. I tried adding a Data Source explicitly for the Data Template and Host but I am not able to create a graph for this data in the "Create Graphs" view. =20 =20 I thought that a Data Query would also be needed and that the DQ would use the DIM as a method to get at the data but when I try to define a Data Query I see that only DIM's that are of type Script Query are allowed, and not the "Script/Command" type which seems to be the type that allows the passing of input values to a script. If this problem makes sense or sounds familiar to anyone please let me know what I am missing, thank you, |

Because that is for local host only. If you are using SNMP on the remote server, use the SNMP Host MIB host template. Check out the forums at forums.cacti.net, lot of people utilize them and are willing to help out. That being said, the documentation covers graphing of single SNMP OID. The thing you need to figure out is that is that OID. If you have the MIB, you can use a program like getif to browse the MIB and find the OID. Once you have the OID, you can follow the instructions on how to gather and graph the OID. Tony Richard DeWath wrote: > I want to get the CPU usage from the HP Procurve > switches. I want to get the CPU usage from the HP Procurve switches. The default data capture for CPU does not work, so I did find that HP has its own MIBs. I have got them and the cisco mibs, but now I am still learning how to do all this. As I did not find any reference to HP Procurve in the archives, does anyone have this working and be willing to give a few tips on how I set this up? Thanks, Richard p.s. I am trying to learn cacti, rrdtools and snmp together so feel free to point to all of the above. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! HI all,
I am trying to use an SNMP agent connected with Apache
to read server statistics (this is with the WWW-MIB).
In this MIB there is a table that provides service info
and the index (simple integer, oid: .1.3.6.1.2.1.65.1.1.1.1.1).
The column with oid: .1.3.6.1.2.1.65.1.1.1.1.5 is a string representing
the vritual host name. The second table has a number of counter I want
to represent in graphs,
This is the XML describing the resource.
<query>
<name>HTTP Traffic</name>
<oid_index>.1.3.6.1.2.1.65.1.1.1.1.1</oid_index>
<index_order>wwwName</index_order>
<index_order_type>alphabetic</index_order_type>
<fields>
<wwwName>
<name>Service Name</name>
<method>walk</method>
<source>value</source>
<direction>input</direction>
<oid>.1.3.6.1.2.1.65.1.1.1.1.5</oid>
</wwwName>
<inRequests>
<name>requests</name>
<method>walk</method>
<source>value</source>
<direction>output</direction>
<oid>.1.3.6.1.2.1.65.1.2.1.1.1</oid>
</inRequests>
<outResponses>
<name>responses</name>
<method>walk</method>
<source>value</source>
<direction>output</direction>
<oid>.1.3.6.1.2.1.65.1.2.1.1.4</oid>
</outResponses>
<inBytes>
<name>bytes receieved in requests</name>
<method>walk</method>
<source>value</source>
<direction>output</direction>
<oid>.1.3.6.1.2.1.65.1.2.1.1.6</oid>
</inBytes>
<outBytes>
<name>bytes returned in responses</name>
<method>walk</method>
<source>value</source>
<direction>output</direction>
<oid>.1.3.6.1.2.1.65.1.2.1.1.8</oid>
</outBytes>
</fields>
</query>
The debug data only shows the following found.
+ Running data query [10].
+ Found type = '3' [snmp query].
+ Found data query XML file at
'/usr/local/share/cacti/resource/snmp_queries/http-taffic.xml'
+ XML file parsed ok.
+ Executing SNMP walk for list of indexes @ '.1.3.6.1.2.1.65.1.1.1.1.1'
+ Located input field 'wwwName' [walk]
+ Executing SNMP walk for data @ '.1.3.6.1.2.1.65.1.1.1.1.5'
+ Found item [wwwName='www.bar.com'] index: 1 [from value]
+ Found item [wwwName='www.bar.com'] index: 2 [from value]
+ Found item [wwwName='new.host.name'] index: 3 [from value]
There, I am wondering if the SNMP query mechanism can work
on two tables? Or do I need to make a script for that?

Hi, I think this forbidden think comes from your web server so check its config file. You (or the server admin) made a restriction to access the cacti page from specific ip address. Check the allow,deny rows and the ip adresses or network range in allow from row.
