I have added a custom data template to my cacti install and I would like to add it to an existing host template however the new data template does not appear in the drop-down menu for the host template. also, the new data template does not appear in the drop-down menu when I try to add a graph to an existing device. what am I doing wrong? I'm using cacti 0.8.6h. thx. _________________________________________________________________ Express yourself instantly with MSN Messenger! I've been able to mess with the existing rrd files by using rrdtool dump and rrdtool restore (I haven't looked closely at all, but I think these are available only in newer versions of rrdtool). rrdtool dump creates an XML file based on the contents of the rrd file you give it, and rrdtool restore creates a new rrd based on the XML file you specify. So when I've needed to do stuff to existing rrds (like change the maximum values to something reasonable for what I happened to be measuring since I didn't set it up right originally), I typically end up doing something like the following: - Mess with a test file for a bit to make sure I have everything right and the total maintenance doesn't take long - Turn off the poller so it doesn't try to mess with rrds I'm busy editing - Use a script to rrddump existing RRDs, pipe them through a sed command to modify whatever it is I'm after, and use rrdrestore to recreate the RRDs - Re-enable polling - Josh |

I added a 3 year view as follows (it was a few months ago, so my recollection is a little vague): - Select the Data Sources Menu - Click on RRAs - You'll see a list of the standard RRAs on the right (Weekly, Daily, etc) - Click Add to create a new one - Fill in the details - the tricky bit is getting the time intervals right (I *think* I remember having trouble if the time-span exceeded 8 digits) You'll now see a new RRA listed when you edit / create a data template. Adding this to existing RRD files will need to be done outside of cricket. I didn't need to do that as I'd set up the new RRA before creating any RRDs. -Ronan |

Hi everyone, We're setting up cacti company-wide and so far it's working quite nicely. For the long-term view, however, we would like to store more than 1 year of data per item. Is there a global setting or way to change all current and future rra's to also make a 5 year graph? Regards, Paul Boven. |

Hi!
I am trying to make a graph showing the average time needed for request
processing from two datasources I already have: the number of requests
(derived from the total number of requests by using "counter") and the
request processing time. I'd like to combine these two datasources in one
diagram by adding a graph item showing request processing time divided by
request count. Is this possible? How would I do it?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Best regards,
David

I believe if you review the XML documentation you will find a tag that indicates that the method should be a get in this case rather than a walk. Look for it and let me know if it works for you.... I'm creating a script to query weblogic via SNMP and get a bunch of
application-related info. I would be using an SNMP query instead of a
script query, but WebLogic 8.1's SNMP agent apparently doesn't support
the snmpbulk* commands cacti tries to use on it. Anyway, the problem is
that I can't get query_<field> variables to work in the graphs, so I end
up with 70+ graphs all named "|query_parent| - Sessions open on
|query_name|". Some details:
The script query is defined in weblogic_sessions2.xml, which includes
fields like this:
<fields>
<index>
<name>Application Index</name>
<direction>input</direction>
<query_name>index</query_name>
</index>
<parent>
<name>Parent Server</name>
<direction>output</direction>
<query_name>parent</query_name>
</parent>
<name>
<name>App Name</name>
<direction>output</direction>
<query_name>name</query_name>
</name>
<cursess>
<name>Current Sessions</name>
<direction>output</direction>
<query_name>cursess</query_name>
</cursess>
</fields>
The data template has a data source item defined, called cursess, which
should correspond to what's in the xml file. The graph template refers
to the right data source (cursess), and the title there is
"|query_parent| |query_name| WebApp Open Sessions". In the data query,
I've associated the graph template to this query, and added "
|query_parent| |query_name| Open Sessions" as the suggested graph title.
When add the data query to my weblogic host and create graphs, all the
graphs are called "|query_parent| |query_name| WebApp Open Sessions",
and the variables aren't replaced. What am I doing wrong?
