http://localhost/cacti should work as long as you've got some form of http running, you can also put in your ip address, ie http://192.168.1.1/cacti. Also, is there a reason your running this on win98? You could sure get a lot more out of that box putting a good version of linux on it. Just a thought. -----Original Message----- From: cac...@li... Hello Jenggo. I think the problem is you have extracted cacti to the = wrong folder. You should have to extract it to the apache documentroot folder = and point the browser to:=20 http://your-server/cacti, where your server is the ip address or your = server DNS name. As you know, the documentroot folder is the folder specified in apache httpd.conf as the folder for http files, inside documentroot there must = be a folder named cacti where you extracted the cacti files. I hope this works for you, ---------------------------------------------- Rafael Enrique Coronell Barrios Direcci=F3n de Tecnolog=EDas de Informaci=F3n Universidad de los Andes -----Mensaje original----- De: cac...@li... What version of cacti are you using? Hello, we're currently monitoring about 1300 rrd files with cactid (which is crontabbed each 5 minutes) and seem to be running into timing problems. Instead of shutting down after being executed, some cactid instances seem to remain running - and that creates a huge resource hog on our monitoring server. Does anyone have an idea how we can circumvent this (and not give up our 5-minute update interval)? --ck |

Hello, I just installed Cacti, and have got it running against a few servers. However, my main intent is to have it replace the MRTG graphs we generate for the colocation clients of the hosting company I work for. Our Current Setup: ================== Bascially, we have two Juniper routers, on which is created a "virtual port" for each colocation client (thus, traffic usage is based on how much traffic goes through that customer's assigned "port", regardless of how many servers/IPs they have) The Junipers upload the files containing the bandwidth usage to a central Linux server, which is then queried by MRTG using a string like the following in the 'mrtg.conf' file: --- CUT HERE --- Target[CUSTOMER.bandwidth]:1.3.6.1.4.1.2021.255.170&1.3.6.1.4.1.2021.256.170:<communnity_string>@central_linux_server --- CUT HERE --- In the string '1.3.6.1.4.1.2021.255.170', the '170' onthe end is the client's virtual port onthe Juniper router. I was wondering if it is possible to duplicate this in Cacti, and if so, if anyone has any suggestion on doing so? Thank you, in advance, for your help. Alan Murrell <li...@mu...> |

hello, i did a little searching on the message board but didn't find an answer and i prefer a mailing list... so here i am. about one month ago my graphs stopped showing data and started reporting nan. i thought maybe it was my firewall (iptables). so i checked it out and found that some provisions weren't being made for snmp. so i added the following lines and restarted iptables: -A RH-Lokkit-0-50-INPUT -p tcp -m tcp --dport 161 --syn -j ACCEPT -A RH-Lokkit-0-50-INPUT -p udp -m udp --dport 161 -j ACCEPT -A RH-Lokkit-0-50-INPUT -p udp -m udp --dport 162 -j ACCEPT but unfortunately that didn't solve the problem! i also tried restarting snmpd but didn't get any love. someone have a clue? oh, and like my subject line indicates, monitoring of the local server (the one that cacti resides on) is still working fine. thanks, chris. |

I'm having a tough time getting Cacti and Squidstats to work. Cacti is up and operating, and graphing for some router devices that I created. However when I create devices based on the squidstats template the .rrd files never get written and therefore can't be graphed. Graph debug just says: ERROR: opening '/usr/local/cacti/rra/ewhs_proxy_squid_clienthttphit_14.rrd': No such file or directory Here's a log of the cmd.php run and it runs as user "nobody": command: perl /usr/local/cacti/scripts/linux_memory.pl MemFree:, output: 1041128 command: perl /usr/local/cacti/scripts/linux_memory.pl SwapFree:, output: 999800 MULTI command: perl /usr/local/cacti/scripts/loadavg_multi.pl, output: 1min:0.19 5min:0.76 10min:0.44 MULTI expansion: found fieldid: 17, found rrdname: load_1min, value: 0.19 MULTI expansion: found fieldid: 18, found rrdname: load_5min, value: 0.76 MULTI expansion: found fieldid: 19, found rrdname: load_15min, value: 0.44 command: perl /usr/local/cacti/scripts/unix_users.pl, output: 1 command: perl /usr/local/cacti/scripts/unix_processes.pl, output: 64 snmp: 10.96.0.1:161, dsname: 5min_cpu, oid: .1.3.6.1.4.1.9.2.1.58.0, value: 25 snmp: 10.96.0.1:161, dsname: traffic_in, oid: .1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.10.1, value: 1851014029 snmp: 10.96.0.1:161, dsname: traffic_out, oid: .1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.16.1, value: 690044236 snmp: 10.86.0.1:161, dsname: 5min_cpu, oid: .1.3.6.1.4.1.9.2.1.58.0, value: 20 snmp: 10.86.0.1:161, dsname: traffic_out, oid: .1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.16.2, value: 3753287683 snmp: 10.86.0.1:161, dsname: traffic_in, oid: .1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.10.2, value: 447709063 snmp: 10.30.0.1:161, dsname: 5min_cpu, oid: .1.3.6.1.4.1.9.2.1.58.0, value: 18 snmp: 10.30.0.1:161, dsname: traffic_out, oid: .1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.16.2, value: 1924019822 snmp: 10.30.0.1:161, dsname: traffic_in, oid: .1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.10.2, value: 479601643 update /usr/local/cacti/rra/localhost_mem_buffers_3.rrd --template mem_buffers N:1041128 update /usr/local/cacti/rra/localhost_mem_swap_4.rrd --template mem_swap N:999800 update /usr/local/cacti/rra/localhost_load_1min_5.rrd --template load_1min:load_5min:load_15min N:0.19:0.76:0.44 update /usr/local/cacti/rra/localhost_users_6.rrd --template users N:1 update /usr/local/cacti/rra/localhost_proc_7.rrd --template proc N:64 update /usr/local/cacti/rra/esc_test_lan_5min_cpu_8.rrd --template 5min_cpu N:25 update /usr/local/cacti/rra/esc_test_lan_traffic_in_9.rrd --template traffic_in:traffic_out N:1851014029:690044236 update /usr/local/cacti/rra/ewhs_5min_cpu_10.rrd --template 5min_cpu N:20 update /usr/local/cacti/rra/ewhs_traffic_in_11.rrd --template traffic_out:traffic_in N:3753287683:447709063 update /usr/local/cacti/rra/ohe_5min_cpu_12.rrd --template 5min_cpu N:18 update /usr/local/cacti/rra/ohe_traffic_in_13.rrd --template traffic_out:traffic_in N:1924019822:479601643 time: 1 I assumed its just a permissions problem however, I don't have a problem creating other devices and graphs: Here's the perms of the log and rra folders. root@esc6:/usr/local/cacti# ls -ld log rra drwxr-xr-x 2 nobody root 4096 Mar 22 08:40 log/ drwxr-xr-x 2 nobody root 4096 Mar 22 08:50 rra/ root@esc6:/usr/local/cacti/rra# ls -l total 780 -rw-r--r-- 1 nobody nogroup 47836 Mar 22 10:20 esc_test_lan_5min_cpu_8.rrd -rw-r--r-- 1 nobody nogroup 94660 Mar 22 10:20 esc_test_lan_traffic_in_9.rrd -rw-r--r-- 1 nobody nogroup 47836 Mar 22 10:20 ewhs_5min_cpu_10.rrd -rw-r--r-- 1 nobody nogroup 94660 Mar 22 10:20 ewhs_traffic_in_11.rrd -rw-r--r-- 1 nobody nogroup 141484 Mar 22 10:20 localhost_load_1min_5.rrd -rw-r--r-- 1 nobody nogroup 47836 Mar 22 10:20 localhost_mem_buffers_3.rrd -rw-r--r-- 1 nobody nogroup 47836 Mar 22 10:20 localhost_mem_swap_4.rrd -rw-r--r-- 1 nobody nogroup 47836 Mar 22 10:20 localhost_proc_7.rrd -rw-r--r-- 1 nobody nogroup 47836 Mar 22 10:20 localhost_users_6.rrd -rw-r--r-- 1 nobody nogroup 47836 Mar 22 10:20 ohe_5min_cpu_12.rrd -rw-r--r-- 1 nobody nogroup 94660 Mar 22 10:20 ohe_traffic_in_13.rrd The packages I'm using on Slackware 9: SquidStats-0[1].1.zip cacti-0.8.5.tar.gz net-snmp-5.0.8.tar.gz httpd-2.0.48.tar.gz mysql-4.0.18.tar.gz The Squid Cache targets don't show up in the rrd.log. Hi, I have created a script for printing the total used and free space on all partitions. I also created a Data Input Method for it. I checked that it worked by running the cronjob directly, but I get the following output: MULTI command: sh /var/www/cacti/scripts/diskspace.sh, output: used:40772379 avail:31717218 MULTI expansion: found fieldid: 42, found rrdname: used, value: 40772379 MULTI expansion: found fieldid: 44, found rrdname: , value: 31717218 followed by: update /var/www/cacti/rra/kebab_avail_32.rrd --template used: N:40772379:31717218 ERROR: unknown DS name '' All the other updates work OK and I have doublechecked the script and Cacti. I am really stuck. Anybody have any ideas? /Kevin |

I don't think so. Instead of manually typing in the RRD filenames, maybe you could "batch replace" these filenames by updating the column "data_source_path" in the table "data_template_data" of the Cacti DB. But properly you will have to dig into to Cacti database schema to do this properly (the scheme was published somewhere on the forum in www.raxnet.org . |

Thanks for the answer! Is there a possibility to define the RRD file's pathname and name in a template? If I could define the name with e.g. |host_description| and |query_ifName| I could just add my devices with templates without the need to manually enter the new filename in each DS. Or does anybody know another workaround for this? I have to create about 1000 RRDs this way, so any suggestions are welcome :) cheers, Daniel |

Hi,
has anybody experience in importing rrds-files into cacti?
In think this has already been done two years ago as mentioned in this
thread:
http://www.raxnet.net/board/viewtopic.php?t=86&highlight=
This script seems not to work with the latest cacti-release. Has anybody
ever done an update of this script or has anybody other tools for
importing rrds into cacti?
Thanks.

No problem.
You just need to have a Data Template and a Graph Template that
corresponds
with the RRD file that is updated by the other tool.
There are two possibilities:
--> a proper Data Template and a Graph Template is already available in
Cacti (e.g.
type Traffic bits/sec)
In that case, just define the graph in the usual way, but make sure
that "Data Source Active"
is unset for the graph data (in order to be able to do this, you
will have to select
"Use Per-Data Source Value" for "Data Source Active" in the Data
Template).
After the graph and data source are defined, filll in the RRD file's
pathname in=20
the field "Data Source Path" of the Data Source.
--> no readily available Data Template and Graph Template : then you
will define your own
template, and in the Data Template set "Data Input Source" to None.
The further procedure
for activating the graph is identical as in possibility (1).

Btw we've had to go back to cmd.php for now (back to a steady load 3
instead of 0.00). Besides cactid cutting off the long multi result of
that one PDU graph I've posted about before, it also was only storing
the data for about our first 1000 graphs, the last 500 weren't being
updated and eventually just said 'nan'. I tried looking through the
cactid output but it appeared to be gathering the data just fine for
those 500 non-updating-graphs, didn't have time yet to look into it
further.=20
=20
For a crude multithreaded workaround I modified cmd.php so that when it
does its SQL select there's a limit at the very end using:
=20
$polling_items =3D db_fetch_assoc("select * from data_input_data_cache
limit $argv[1],$argv[2]");
=20
then in my crontab I just have this:
=20
0-59/5 * * * * cactiuser /usr/local/bin/php /home/cacti/cmd.php 0 500 >
/dev/null 2>&1
0-59/5 * * * * cactiuser /usr/local/bin/php /home/cacti/cmd.php 500 500
> /dev/null 2>&1
0-59/5 * * * * cactiuser /usr/local/bin/php /home/cacti/cmd.php 1000
500 > /dev/null 2>&1
0-59/5 * * * * cactiuser /usr/local/bin/php /home/cacti/cmd.php 1500
500 > /dev/null 2>&1
0-59/5 * * * * cactiuser /usr/local/bin/php /home/cacti/cmd.php 2000
99999 > /dev/null 2>&1
=20
Much worse load wise but it got all of the graphs updating again.
=20
I'm still not completely sure cactid is doing the first 1000 or so ok,
or if its just random, otherwise I'd be tempted to have cactid running
and just use cmd.php for 1000+..
=20
Not trying to complain here; Cacti rules and cactid's very close to
kicking cmd.php out the door. ;-) This is just meant to be
informational. If any of the developers are interested in some captured
cactid output to compare it to the cmd.php output let me know.
=20
Cheers
Jeremy
