I have been a Neon customer for the past five years, and unlike many of the reviews I have read, I can honestly say that I am extremely satisfied with the service.
Neon has always been a reliable and trustworthy bank for me. Of course, it is a low-cost or even free banking solution, so you cannot expect every feature and service level that you might get from a traditional bank such as UBS. However, for everyday banking, Neon offers excellent value.
What impressed me most was the customer service. When I experienced financial difficulties, I contacted Neon for support. The assistance I received was outstanding: personal, understanding, and very efficient. Response times were quick, and I was communicating with real people rather than chatbots or automated systems.
I also really appreciate the integration with Wise, which makes international transfers easy, convenient, and cost-effective.
Overall, my experience with Neon has been really positive, and I can highly recommend this bank to anyone looking for a modern, reliable, and affordable banking solution.

I've been a 2 years Neon Metal user. What I don't like:
- Bad customer support
- Unable to dispute a transaction (something even Cembra cashback free card allows you to do)
- Too many issues paying directly with the card (Apple pay no problem), like contactless not working properly
- Neon Free not free anymore, just useless, let me tell you
- Free withdrawals in Switzerland with Metal, yet you charged me nonetheless. Luckily I checked and reported to get that money back
I'm closing my account.

Agree!
but then why do you charge 20 CHF for replacement of damaged, lost or stolen card?
it would be good to compare with concurrent banks like Yuh- 1 weekly free ATM withdrawal and naturally free replacement of expired card
0,35% international fee is acceptable, but 10 CHF for replacement of expired card is not and for sure you will lose many customers

Horrible experience. No automatic release of blocked funds after car rentals, forcing me to chase them multiple times.
Customer service refuses to provide transaction/pre-authorization logs.
No reliability, no transparency, bad customer service.
Looking forward to close the account as soon as possible even though I assume it won't be easy according to other users'experience.

Closing the account is a nightmare. They have poor processes, don't know what has been done and what not, mixing up papers.
Calling with unnecessary questions, put me on hold (while tehy called me), requesting documents related to a US citizen. Feeling like Alice in Wonderland...

It does what it says on the can. It's free, it's got a fairly good app. And it works fine with Samsung Pay.
What I didn't like... is that I chose to sign up for their "8.50 CHF travel insurance".
Their website claims that this would cover "if you miss your connecting flight due to [...] the exclusive fault of the first airline, the insurance covers the additional costs for continuing the journey"
This simply isn't true.
I had an EasyJet flight from Porto to Paris, then onto Bangkok.
The EasyJet flight was cancelled with just 9 hours notice. EasyJet claimed that it was an "exceptional issue" because of air traffic control. And because of that, Neon said my travel insurance doesn't cover it.
What ?! I had to pay an additional 950 CHF for a new flight, I sent them all the receipts, and there was nothing I could've done to prevent this. How does travel insurance not cover THIS ?! What's even the point of travel insurance, if stuff like this isn't covered ?!
Oh, I completely understand that every insurance policy has it's exclusions, but when you are refused even 1 CHF of compensation, then the Neon website proudly claims to provide cover for your exact situation, you can't help but to be angry. This is fraud.
So, apart from this blatant fraud, yeah, Neon isn't bad.
Yuh is better though. ;-)

I used to be a fan, used Neon for years and recommended it to friends. but there are just too many issues that come up over time. I'm now looking for an alternative.
Some issues:
- Twint isnt working. In the past it was partially usable through the UBS Twint App. Now you have to use the Prepay Twint app and for me my authorization attempts keep failing, which means I cant use it.
- Payments that failed and get refunded just disappear altogether. If this was a user friendly interface you'd still see them but stoke through or something. But no, they just disappear and you have no idea.
- The partnership account costs ~100 Franks the first year. Thats beyond ridiculous.
I left UBS because I thought a digital first experience would be better. At first it was. But now I feel like I deal with the same nonsense, just with a slightly nicer interface.
Edit: After a kind reply I changed my review from 1 star to 3 stars.
- I acknowledge that Twint not working might not be caused by them. Still the end effect is that I look ridiculous to my friends and family because I can't use Twint. I'll perhaps check with Twint support, but honestly this kind of technology needs to just work. It shouldn't be that hard.
-Cost: 12 x 3 x 2 = 72Fr
There is also a setup fee of 2 x 10 Fr
So first year is 92 Fr
However even if the information of 60 Fr was true thats still much too expensive. Something like 10 Fr would be my upper limit that I could accept. A free offer would be great.

When I first moved to switzerland I have spent a lot of time choosing the bank that most corresponded to my needs, and I chose Neon because it was the perfect fit for me.
Then, a couple of blissful months later, the enshittification process started, removing one-by-one all of the reasons why I had chosen them. I wanted to withdraw my own money cheaply, and now it costs. I wanted to save a bit of money using the spaces - they used to pay interests on that - and now it has little sense. I was attracted to the "spend money in the EU for free", and now it's not free anymore.
But even with all of that, it was still a nice product, and changing to another bank was not worth the time nor the hassle. Neon was just the less shitty option, when it used to be the best one.
But now, my card says it's inactive and I cannot buy my groceries, I have no idea what happened nor how to fix it. There is no help inside the app, and I cannot talk to a human being on the phone.
I can only send emails, but they fall unanswered.
I need help and receive none. At this point, any other bank would be better than neon. At least I could buy my groceries using my money.
Edit:
After writing this (but not necessarily because of it) my card has been re-activated.
It took too long and there could have been a phone system to fix this serious issue, but it got solved nonetheless.
All other points remain valid: they made the product attractive enough to entice costumers, and then made it worse to save money, "trapping" costumers inside.
They remain the less-shitty option on the market. But since they at least solved the issue, I raised my vote of them .

Trying to use my card abroad. Everything goes well mainly through Apple Pay. This morning I had to use my physical debit card, the first payment goes through. I have to repeat another payment with the same marchant and no matter the amount (we try to split it), nothing goes through. Of course they don’t have a functioning terminal with Apple Pay.
Guess what? I’m under the daily limit, under the monthly limit and have enough funds. Again utter embarrassment and I cannot find out what’s going on. Since the only way is to get in touch with Neon per email I have to wait and trust that I can go back tomorrow and make the payment.
I get to another merchant and attempt to make a small payment with Apple Pay and everything works.
This is the most unreliable bank ever and being abroad makes it a nightmare to solve the issue. I cannot find out from the FAQ if there is a transaction limit on their web site and besides I am still under the daily limit. This bank is utter garbage.
Edit: all further payments got blocked and the „help“ I got from the customer service was basically not even reading what I wrote and checking the whole transaction history of what happened since then, which is that ALL my payments have now gotten declined. Is it this hard to actually take the time to read and help your customers besides saying mea culpa just use another card? I’m definitely closing my account and advising everyone I know never to use Neon.

My new Bank, with mastercard Metal they offer a brand new smartphone once a year when mine is broken/stolen....

I would highly recommend to avoid putting any money here. Constantly the banking is down due to maintenance, it’s the most unstable banking platform I have ever seen. Customer service can’t be reached in case of issues or urgent matters. Furthermore to transfer your own money from “spaces” ( a saving pocket with ridiculous 0,5% interest per year) they charge you with additional 2% in case you transfer more than 50k. In case you need to do any larger transactions (e.g. buying property) you can’t access your own money without getting ripped off. I’m really disappointed in the concept of neon and closing my account as soon as possible.

I'm thoroughly impressed with their service. They consistently strive to do the best for their customers (within their capabilities). The offerings are excellent, especially considering the competitive pricing. Additionally, they are dedicated to continuous improvement, which is evident in the frequent updates and enhancements. Highly recommended!

Terrible bank, nothing works and the support is useless. They charged me 20 CHF for a simple debit card! No bank has ever charged me that.
Sometimes can’t even log in to the app because they’re having issues.
I recommend going back to normal banks.

Not a friendly bank - they never delivered my first card and then charged me for a second. I never even got the chance to use the bank, and now have to pay them 20 Francs.

Like most of these neo-bank, they always start with an highly attractive offer, reduced fees, etc.
But then months after months, they cut in the free features and/or they lower interest rates on the savings.
What bothers me is that when there is an increase in the reference rate, Neon never passes on the entire increase to its customers. But when the central bank lowers its benchmark rate, we literally receive 10 minutes later a notification that Neon is going to pass on this cut from the 1st day of the following month.
And guys sorry but it cannot goes both ways.

Very good service for free. The new investment options are very easy to use, cheap and beat most competitors.

I've been using neon for a few years as my main bank account and and really enjoy it. Neon is easy, nimble and i really like their mindset. Not all is perfect, but they are proactive and receptive to feedback. I appreciate that.
Neon does all i need it to do and for free. I use it a lot also abroad, as it's the cheapest way to pay in any non CHF currency.
I recommend it.

I use Neon for daily banking. I receive my salary in the traditional bank but then I transfer an amount of money I usually need for a month to Neon and then use Neon only. I've been using Neon for couple of years and same with my wife. The traditional banks feel old and slow compared to Neon.
