A Bit Shocked
Via a broker, I took out health insurance for my two adult kids with Down's syndrome with The Exeter. I am their mother, carer and guardian. I paid the premiums, and I gave my email address for both kids, which wasn't a problem with their old app. Yet when they upgraded their app, this was no longer possible. But instead of contacting us about it, giving me the chance to give an alternative email for one of the kids, they simply made it impossible to create a profile for the second child, making it essentially equally impossible for them to receive any services. I tried to call them, but gave up after half an hour in the queue and sent an email instead. In their response they told me that, basically, I wasn't authorised to act for my kids. (No such problems with me signing the contracts and taking the money from my account, obviously...) The broker had told me they would contact me and ask for the guardianship documents in case they needed them when I offered to send a copy. But of course they could not contact me, since I wasn't authorised - catch 22...
Well, I sent copies of the guardianship documents, as attachments to a cancellation email. This is not the way I want myself and my kids treated when paying a lot of money every month. To be honest, I am a bit shocked. Life with disabled kids can be difficult enough without such, in my eyes, completely unnecessary hassle.
P.S. I have meanwhile received confirmation of the cancellation of both policies, weeks ago. Nonetheless, the company tried to use the direct debit again for further premiums. Fortunately, I had already cancelled it. This action is reason enough to reduce the rating to 1 star, instead of 2.
