Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Considering 60 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Reviewers frequently complained that customer service representatives were unhelpful, rude, and nearly impossible to reach when trying to resolve complicated billing or account problems. Consumers also noted unexpectedly high bills, extremely expensive energy rates, and frustrating errors regarding direct debit payments and account management. Though some customers experienced severe issues, a few reviewers were genuinely satisfied with the helpful support received through online chat options or staff members. Some people also found the payment process relatively straightforward and appreciated receiving clear information regarding their contracts and overall energy usage.

I won’t be renewing

I won’t be renewing. The app tells you when to expect your bill and I know payment is taken 14 days from that. Running a household by myself with costs spiralling out of control on every level, I need to plan out my budget in advance to cover everything British notice and without exception, every month the due date of either electric or gas has changed in line. This time a difference of 3 weeks early. What a joke. As soon as my contract is up I’m going to a company who live in the real world.

I absolutely will NEVER use Electric Ireland…

I absolutely will NEVER use Electric Ireland. Customer Service is shocking. Nobody can make an actual decision. I have been 2 months trying to have a prepay meter removed from My property that a tenant installed without my permission. They continually refuse all documentation I have supplied. They will not Tell me the documentation they are expecting to receive or point me in the direction of an article explaining the process. I have asked many times for this to be escalated but they seem unable to. It's a classic example of paying peanuts to get monkeys. No one can make a decision.

Do not join electric ireland

A nightmare, I was out off contract ,my bills are usually €170to €200
My bills were charged at top rate which came to €411euro ,the lady told if I reinstated contract it would be energy saver 10% and she would reduce my bill to €250,I agreed , I paid half and agreed to pay rest in a week. I called 1 days later as my account was still reading €411,I was told that bills wasn't reduced ,im a liar ,honestly the worst customer service ive felt with. All calls are recorded so I asked for appeal and listen to call,I was told that would take 10 days ,and by that stage my cooling off period had expired,

I pay my bills online 5 minutes after I…

I pay my bills online 5 minutes after I receive notification by email.
I received no notification this month and found out by chance that they were having a dispute with Gmail.
They suggested I change my email host!
They didn't consider sending a paper bill or notifying customers.
As a result I have been penalised by losing my pay on time meagre bonus and I must pay for paperbills going forward.
No way would I trust this company with direct debit payments or anything at all.
They refused to connect me with a senior employee following days of email exchanges with a bot or a bot like human who refused to understand plain English.
I emailed their CE who never replied and I emailed CE of ESB who replied that Electric Ireland is a separate company and they had forwarded my email to them. Hardly helpful or remotely interested.
I saw no public announcement about this fiasco.
Zero respect for loyal or vulnerable customers

I see they have not claimed their profile here and that figures.
Disgusted!

Dangerous system error, zero empathy, and dismissive staff

Electric Ireland took an unauthorized duplicate payment of €89.58 from my account over the weekend, leaving me completely short of essential funds. This unprovoked error caused me severe financial distress, extreme anxiety, and left me physically shaking and sick to my stomach this morning. To make matters worse, their systems were down this morning when I tried to get it sorted. When I finally got through after they came back online, the staff were incredibly dismissive and bluntly told me to just call back when it processes. There was absolutely no acknowledgment of the distress they caused, and no mention of a goodwill gesture for their severe service failure. My bank was significantly more helpful and supportive than Electric Ireland. I have now been forced to open an official transaction dispute with my bank just to protect my money from this company. This is a shocking way to treat customers. Absolutely disgraceful service. IF I COULD GIVE ZERO STARS I WOULD

Pity about the price rises but shout out to this nice lady

I spoke with a lady called Justine who was polite & professional. Her tone was reassuring & warm & she answered all of my questions. In a week when we all got the bad news about the price rises it's good to know that at least the people on the phone do care & are understanding. Well done Justine & thank you.

Regards, John

Shameful Company

When my mother passed away, Electric Ireland told me the balance on her account was nil. Some three months later I received a LEGAL DEMAND LETTER from a Hugh Ward & Co Solicitors, demanding payment for an outstanding bill for Electric Ireland. I was never sent any invoice in the first place, nor was the Estate. An absolutely shocking way to treat customers who were loyal for more than 30 years. Shame on you as a company.

Inept

Inept. Customer services staff do not speak clear English, have no clue what I am saying to them. Impossible to resolve issues. You might resolve an issue at 10am and by 10.15am you receive another call about the same thing. Useless.

And lets not forget how they charged us all even when we had no electricity for over 6 weeks in one year. Disgusting company.
