Charged me $65 to cancel a reservation way in advance
Sixt charged me $65 to cancel my booking five days before I was supposed to pick up the car. This charge falls way outside of the norm for canadian car rental companies, and the fact that they conceal it in the fine print on the Travelocity website is ridiculous. I saw very lousy reviews for Sixt on other sites. I should have trusted them. Will never use agian
Extremely disappointed, would not rent again
Extremely disappointed with my experience at SIXT Calgary International Airport. I rented a Jeep Wrangler from March 29 to April 4, 2026. Three days after returning the vehicle, SIXT emailed me alleging a new windshield stone chip and crack, and opened a damage claim.
Before pickup and again at return, I documented the windshield with timestamped photos and videos. Both sets clearly show the same six pre-existing marks in identical condition, no new chip, no new crack, no change. SIXT's own pickup inspection recorded only four of the six marks that were already visible when I received the vehicle, meaning their baseline record was incomplete before I even drove off the lot.
I submitted eight files of before-and-after photos and videos through SIXT's damage portal on the same day the claim was opened. In the four months of correspondence that followed — including a formal dispute letter, a request for their pre-rental photographs of the vehicle, and a request for the metadata on their post-rental photo, SIXT never once acknowledged or engaged with the evidence I provided. Every response was a form letter or a payment demand. They never produced a pre-rental photograph, never provided an itemized repair estimate to me, and never addressed the substance of the dispute.
The matter was ultimately resolved through my credit card's rental insurance, which covered the repair charge. I still ended up paying an admin fee out of pocket — essentially the cost of SIXT running an inspection process that mis-recorded the vehicle's condition at pickup, and then insisting on the charge without engaging with contrary evidence.
If you rent from SIXT Calgary, document every panel with timestamped photos and videos both before you drive off and again at return, and keep them. Their internal inspection process is not enough to protect you.
Would not rent from this location again.
Very disappointed customer experience (Toronto Pearson Airport)
Hello,
I reserved a BMW X7 at Sixt Toronto Pearson but upon arrival, the agent attempted to provide me with an older-generation red Audi Q7, which was not the vehicle I had reserved. I explained that I expected to receive the category of vehicle I had specifically requested. The agent then told me that the BMW would be ready in approximately 20 minutes.
In reality, I ended up waiting nearly 45 minutes, despite the fact that my flight had already been delayed by two hours. This raises a simple question: why was the vehicle I had reserved not ready when I arrived?
Given the situation, I asked to speak with a manager. Unfortunately, no manager was available on site at the time. I left clear instructions for follow-up the next day, hoping that some form of goodwill gesture or compensation could be considered.
This delay had a significant impact on our plans. I was travelling with my brother and his family, who were visiting Toronto for the very first time. We had plans to meet friends for dinner at the CN Tower restaurant. Due to the cumulative delays, by the time we arrived, we were no longer able to access our reservation. Needless to say, we were extremely disappointed.
The following day, I met with Joshit, the manager. To my surprise, he seemed completely unaware of the incident, despite the information I had left the previous day. More concerning was his lack of empathy or concern regarding the inconvenience we had experienced. His response was essentially that there was nothing he could do for us.
I am a professional in the aviation industry and rent vehicles frequently for both business and personal travel. This is the first time I have been treated in such a manner. I have used your services in other locations and have always been treated professionally and respectfully.
Unfortunately, this experience left me feeling that I was not treated with the same level of consideration as other customers. I sincerely hope this is not representative of your service standards and that this matter will be reviewed
Very disappointing experience — no flexibility or customer care
We arrived in Vancouver from Italy on August 6th and were unfortunately unable to pick up the car we had already paid for because of an issue with the deposit payment.
Both my credit card and my husband’s credit card were rejected, without any clear explanation. While we understand that payment systems can sometimes have issues, the complete lack of flexibility and willingness to find a solution has been really disappointing. The rental service did not offer any alternative way to pay the deposit or make any real effort to help us resolve the situation.
After two hours of discussions, we were still left without a car and had to return to the airport at around 10:30 p.m. to rent from another company. With the other rental company, the payment went through without any problem. Also during out stay in Vancouver, we have had absolutely no issues using either of our cards for payments.
Problems can happen, but what really matters is how a company treats its customers when something goes wrong. Unfortunately, in our case, there was no flexibility, no collaboration, and no sign of customer care.
We are now also having to spend time requesting a refund for a service we could not use. I sincerely hope that the refund process will at least be handled quickly and without further complications.
Overall, a very frustrating experience with SIXT which I won’t use any longer for future rentals.
I paid $450+ for absolutely nothing
I paid $450+ for absolutely nothing. They didn't give me a car, said they would refund me, then didn't. They said they needed a return flight ticket booked because I had an out of province license (I rented a car from Budget the same day with no issue).
The agent at the desk said they would refund me but I had to call their customer service. Customer service was all automated, then I went through Expedia who said that Sixt said I showed up "without a valid drivers license " and they took the full cost of my reservation.
It's honestly crazy. Reddit is full of examples like this. It's a joke that it's 4 stars on Trust pilot. Search reddit for Sixt Toronto and it's all horror stories.
I had a very disappointing experience…
I had a very disappointing experience with SIXT at Toronto Pearson Airport. I arrived on time with a valid driver’s licence and credit card, but I was refused the rental because I did not have a second government-issued ID. This requirement was not clearly disclosed in the booking information I received through Expedia. I never received the vehicle, yet I have still not been refunded. Customers should be clearly informed of all mandatory documents before they pay for a reservation. I hope SIXT improves transparency and customer service so others do not have the same experience.
Be Careful Renting from SIXT
Staff are great, but the company and its application need to be reviewed. I recently rented a car at LAX, and during my trip, on the last day, I decided to keep the car for a few extra hours. The application prompted me that if I did this prior to returning the car, it would only cost me $28 and I would avoid additional costs. That was a lie — SIXT charged me a full extra day
Refused to honor prepaid booking after weather flight delay — CAD 1,076.38 retained, no service rendered
Date of experience: 23 December 2025
Voucher: 1152550 — Confirmation: 9726943369
Location: SIXT Toronto Pearson Intl Airport (YYZ)
Amount retained: CAD 1,076.38
I prepaid a 5-day rental through a premium travel concierge service (paid by credit card) for a 22:30 pickup on 23 Dec 2025 at SIXT Toronto Pearson. My Air Canada flight AC427 was delayed by adverse weather and landed at 23:11 instead of 21:44 (documented by Toronto Pearson/GTAA). The flight number was on file. I was airborne and could not warn SIXT. The branch — which is off-airport, reachable only by Link Train + courtesy shuttle — was already closed when I arrived (screenshot at 23:54).
At 03:32 AM on 24 Dec I asked the concierge service (case 20643678) to coordinate with SIXT for release the next morning. At 07:59 AM SIXT's written reply through the concierge was that 'este retraso fue registrado como un no show' and that they would NOT release the vehicle that morning. I had to rent a replacement Avis at +CAD 642.31.
SIXT kept 100% of CAD 1,076.38 for a service NEVER rendered despite:
- Flight number on file at booking
- Documented weather delay
- The concierge service formally requesting release the next morning
- Industry-standard grace periods (Avis, Alamo, National)
When I escalated, SIXT redirected me to its US wholesaler LatinCarz, LLC (Miami, FL). LatinCarz has not responded to my formal demand of 11 June 2026. Closed-loop refund deflection.
Formal complaints already filed: Consumer Protection Ontario; Competition Bureau of Canada; FDACS Florida Seller of Travel program (case 2606-04507). Small Claims Court of Ontario reserved.
Total out-of-pocket loss caused by SIXT: CAD 1,718.69.
Avoid SIXT for prepaid airport rentals — they will not honor your booking if your flight is delayed, even with the flight number on file.
—— UPDATE 24 August 2026 ——
After eight months of escalations and the formal FDACS complaint, SIXT finally reversed its no-show classification on 17 August 2026. Refund of USD 676.78 (~CAD 937.81) posted to my credit card on 21 August 2026 (Receipt #3468-2929, processed via SIXT's wholesaler LatinCarz LLC). SIXT retained USD 100 as a partial penalty. Key facts: (1) SIXT never voluntarily reconsidered — three written denials were issued between December 2025 and April 2026, and a fourth in July 2026; (2) reversal only came after regulatory pressure (FDACS Florida case 2606-04507) forced the wholesaler's COO to re-escalate to SIXT senior management; (3) the Avis replacement rental of CAD 642.31 was not compensated. Total net loss absorbed: USD 100 SIXT penalty + CAD 642.31 Avis. Original review stands as an accurate description of what a prepaid customer must do to recover money from SIXT after a documented weather flight delay: file with regulators, publish reviews, and be prepared to wait eight months.
Absolutely useless customer service
Absolutely useless customer service
Made a reservation and was charged wrong amount than what was quoted.
Cancelled the booking which had free cancellation within 24hrs and yet the refund amount was much less than what was charged. Reached out to customer service so many times, first one said she cant help, second guy said not his control and asked to email, and after t back and forth on email for days, as soon as I asked for some proper answers they said its not their problem and go to my bank. This is after the fact that I informed them my trip is coming up and I need some proper resolution so I can make my booking.
Absolutely ridiculous!

Hey, your drivers are the worst. They show up to Viscount, at Toronto Airport, they park on double line, over the curb, they block busses and pedestrian cross walk. Cero professional people. I have pictures, they put on risk the pedestrian and other vehicles.
The agents are racist and sexist
The agents are racist and sexist. I am filing a complaint
Take photos of the rims to avoid overpriced false claims
They are claiming we scraped the rim on our rental car. A car that was driven directly to a site, garage parked for the weekend and driven back.
The only way we could have scraped the rim would have been parking up against a curb or rocks. Neither of which we did.
It is my fault for not filming the state of the car to prove the state of the rims when I picked it up.
Their rate for a single aluminum rim is $756… that is more than double the average price for a rim.
I’ve seen on several threads that this is a very common occurrence with people that have dealt with from the Vancouver area location.
Avoid like the plague
Avoid like the plague. Booked on booking . Com and paid when we got to the office to pick up the rental, they charged 49.00 euro per day for insurance and 186.00 euro for tax and fees. Total scam. They don’t even give you the total bill until 5 days after returning the car. Customer service is useless. Worst car co. I ever dealt with.
Warning
Warning: if you're renting from SIXT Canada 🇨🇦 Sixt refused to recognize my CDW insurance at Toronto Pearson, a policy underwritten by Intact Insurance – Intact Assurance , one of Canada's biggest insurers. Nobody told me this during booking. My wife Rania Fazah landed after a 16-hour trip and was held at the counter for 90 minutes, only to be told that in case there is damage to the vehicle, pay SIXT first and chase your insurer yourself. A formal complaint is now filed with Consumer Protection Ontario .
Competitive rates, but unreliable agents and customer service
Initially, thought it was ok, but in the end, one of the worst experiences I have ever had renting from a car company. I will never rent from Sixt again. I encourage everyone else to steer away from this company.
I rented from the LAX location (through Booking.com). Their rates were competitive, so I initially thought that was good (I had a good experience through Booking.com). I requested a higher-end vehicle, but when I arrived the vehicle was unavailable, so they offered me a lesser one, which I was unhappy about; however, this is quite typical of rental companies. The agent was pleasant, and I paid for an upgrade, which was an EV. The agent informed me that I will not need to re-charge the EV upon return, which I thought was odd. So, I clarified it with her using 3, separate examples and she confirmed that a re-charge is not required upon rent. My wife also heard this.
After driving away with my family and settling down, I went through the contract online. It did not mention anything about the EV not needing to be re-charged upon return.
So, I called customer service, and the first agent was not helpful at all. He just kept repeating the terms of the contract and did not offer any potential solutions. I then asked to speak with a supervisor, and the agent told me that I should call back, which I thought was ridiculous, and a waste of time.
I called back, the second agent was a bit more helpful, and filed a complaint and provided me with a ticket number.
Before returning, I contacted the location where I was planning to return the vehicle, and the agent was not helpful (again just kept repeating the terms of the contract). This agent also provided incorrect information (she provided me the rate if I returned a GAS vehicle, but when I asked for the EV/electricity rate, she stated that I would be charged the GAS rate). Due to these inconsistencies, I re-charged the vehicle before returning it to avoid a considerable up-charge (of whatever it might be).
I then spoke directly with an agent at the location of return. The agent was friendly and apologized, and said he would apply a $50 credit. He also stated that he would put in a note asking a supervisor to follow-up with me.
After filling out a generic email regarding Sixt, I received several emails from customer service reps, but not from a supervisor. One customer service rep stated that there is no documentation from the initial location of rental (i.e., about not needing to re-charge), nor from the location of vehicle return (i.e., applying a credit and that a supervisor will be contacting me) regarding my concerns.
Regardless, I will never consider renting from Sixt again.
I would encourage others to avoid renting from Sixt.
If you do decide to rent from Sixt, I would suggest that you read their contract line-by-line before leaving their facilities because the agents are not trustworthy, or something is wrong with their processes.
I booked a full-size sedan here
I booked a full-size sedan here, but the car they offered me was a Corolla or a Tiguan.
I canceled the reservation on the spot and booked a mystery car that was about 30% cheaper, but the car offered to me was exactly the same.
They are scammers.
I will never use this company again
I will never use this company again. I left my jacket in the car when j returned it. Spent 150 dollars ringing them from Ireland and still no answer back. Sent numerous lost tickets and still no answer back. Absolute joke. Avoid at all costs
I had EXACTLY the same issue as
I had EXACTLY the same issue as EC who gave an 1 star rating three days ago.
I rent a car from thr Calgary Airport location for one week. I was very careful and saw no damage when I returned the vehicle. Small parking lot, no salt full of ice. VERY tight parking. They did not inspect the vehicle. The NEXT day i was informed there was damage with a very poor picture. I called the location and was told it was extremely minor and there will be no issue. That was a lie. 3 months later I have received a bill and then a phone call from the collection agency. I tried numerous times to contact the location again to try to find out exactly when this damage was found and why I was lied too earlier. The branch manager never returned my calls, nor the salesperson I dealt with in the first place. I ended up paying it as no one would communicate with me and I just wanted the situation dealt with so I could move on with my life and never rent from this company again. According to their contract, they do not have to inspect a vehicle at all in a timely manner. Do not trust them.
I rented a car from Sixt for one day
I rented a car from Sixt for one day. Picked up Thursday morning, returned Thursday evening. On Monday I received an email demanding $ for supposed damage.
The photos they sent had all metadata scrubbed - no timestamps, no way to verify when the images were taken. I asked Sixt point blank: when were these photos taken? Silence.
They handed the file to a recovery agency. I asked the agency the same question. Their answer: they didn’t have that information. Not once, across multiple exchanges with both Sixt and their agency, did anyone produce a shred of evidence that this damage happened while the car was in my possession.
Instead of answering a simple question, they threatened collections. I paid the $to avoid credit damage -under protest, with no admission of fault.
Sixt’s process here is simple: make a claim, strip the evidence of any verifiable detail, ignore challenges, and escalate pressure until the customer pays. I’d call this a billing dispute. Others might call it something else.
If you rent from Sixt, take detailed timestamped photos and video of every surface of the vehicle at pickup and return. Based on my experience, you will need them.
We rented a car at the Calgary airport excellent
We rented a car at the Calgary airport. You have to take a shuttle for two minutes, but the shuttle driver was so helpful and gave us so many tips and places to go. The lady at the sixth counter was so friendly. This is by far the best experience I have ever had renting a car and we have rented a car for 30 years and we travel Several times a year.
