I would give this company zero stars if I could.
I hired a car that had a reported range of 780 km of fuel, and I returned it with over 900 km showing, in exactly the same condition as when I collected it.
As I had to return the vehicle at 5 am, the office was closed. I have not received any email confirming that the car was returned.
To make matters worse, the company has kept my deposit instead of releasing it as it should have once the vehicle was returned. This is completely unacceptable.
Based on my experience, I would strongly advise others to avoid this company. I certainly would not use them again.
Alamo unjustly claiming damage with crazy invoice
We booked a Renault Trafic Passenger vehicle at Montpellier Airport on 26th October, returning it on 31st October. After I returned the vehicle, I gave the keys to an employee. One employee walked around the car and I presumed that someone had checked the fuel level as we had just filled the tank. I asked an employee behind the desk if it was now OK to leave for the terminal and was told that it was OK. I then received a text message thanking me "again for being a precious client." On arrival back in UK I received an email from Alamo stating that they had found damage on the vehicle comprising "scratches on the passenger side wing mirror" with an invoice for 3000 Euros. I had probably made an error in saying that I had taken out separate insurance to cover any excess, for as one could replace the whole wing mirror for 230 Euros if required, the 3000 Euros invoice was rather imaginative. I, of course, am refusing to pay anything as I had been told it was OK to make my way to the airport. Make sure you photograph every square inch of the car if renting from Alamo.
AVOID ALAMO AT HHN AIRPORT
AVOID ALAMO AT HHN AIRPORT – VERY DISAPPOINTING EXPERIENCE
Be very careful when hiring a car from Alamo at Frankfurt-Hahn (HHN) Airport.
I booked a car at the beginning of September and returned it before the agreed return time. Before leaving, I specifically asked the staff member to inspect the vehicle in my presence. However, she told me that she would carry out the inspection later. I trusted her and left.
A couple of hours later, I received an email accusing me of damaging the vehicle and demanding €1,285 in compensation.
I strongly disputed the allegation and spent over a month challenging this claim. Eventually, Alamo withdrew the accusation, cancelled the claim and apologised.
The whole experience was extremely stressful and completely unacceptable. What concerns me most is that I had specifically requested an inspection in my presence, but this was not carried out before I left.
It has left me questioning the transparency and fairness of their vehicle return and damage assessment process. I would strongly advise customers to be extremely cautious, document the vehicle's condition thoroughly and take photographs and videos from every angle before returning the keys.
I will never hire a car from Alamo HHN again. Based on my personal experience, I would strongly recommend considering another car hire company.
Worst experience I've ever had in renting a car
I would like to say that Alamo is full of frustrations.
I’ve booked a car and paid in full when I arrived after a very long flight from Australia they said we don’t have any booking for you. spoke to customer service at airport and honestly don't even bother they say sorry we can't help you after waiting for so long.
I end up paying more for another booking to book another car.
After three days imagine three days! Saying we will get back to you within 10-15 days !!! So I’m at airport with no car and no money back! I’m still back and forth with them trying to get my money back and nothing is happening.
I’m not going to let that go but I’m sharing my horrible experience so no one fall in this scam again.
Booking number : 1837205783
Reservation number : 1696968367
Worst experience ever specially when there is no communication from those scammers. Be careful everyone stay away from This company
If you think I’m exaggerating then I’m happy to share the whole back and forth conversation with what so called customer service with you guys to see how ridiculous this company is.
Still till this day I had no car from them and no refund.

Hired a large SUV From MCO airport for two week holiday from 16th October.
Ended up with a very well worn Jeep Wagoneer with 58,000 miles on the clock which appears to be 2021-2023 model. Seems to have been dragged out of storage to fill a gap as we had to wait for some time for it to be brought from another storage area.
The vehicle was clean on the outside but while driving out of the airport we noticed the inside wasn't, and the seats and doors where covered in what appeared to be greasy sun lotion (not cleaning solution). We had to head straight to Walgreens to buy lots of wet wipes to clean up as there were spray marks everywhere. Also found some dirty old used tooth floss sticks in the drivers door handle which wasn't a nice find.
The vehicle had annoyingly squeeky brakes and I personally think an upgrade at the point of collection would have been more appropriate than an old unit they have held on to, considering we are loyal Alamo customers.
We explained the cleanliness issue when returning the vehicle, and the customer team were very good and couldn't stop apologising, and offered a discount to make up for it. We would rather have a clean reasonably new vehicle, but the discount was appreciated none the less.
Update after being contacted by Alamo after review on google:
The link Alamo supplied in their review response doesn't work. I went through to the customer team on the chat to ask why the link is not working, and they have told me that there is no need to contact them!
Seems this is a generic copy and paste response to an Alamo negative review. The person called Aaron on the Alamo chat just ended the chat session.
Complete waste of my time and I will try another company next time!
They cancel my booking without reason
They cancel my booking without reason, customer service at the airport in los mochis, sinaloa, mexico, was so awful, they charged me but cancel my reservation, when I told her that the customer service representative from discover rent a car wanted to talk to her, she refused and ran away, leaving the office empty.

Rented a car with full insurance on the vehicle. Returned the vehicle and was cleared. A month later I realized that they charged me the full deposit because they said that there were damages on the vehicle. I pointed out that even though there were no damages and that they inspected the vehicle the car still had full coverage. The answer was, the insurance is only good for a few days after the rental and that it was too late to file a claim. Company is a joke all around the world. Stay away from them.
Didn’t Keep Their End Of Agreement and Haven’t Reimbursed Yet
I reserved an SUV due to a hip injury. I called to confirm it was there before I took an Uber to pick it up. They confirmed it was in there. No shuttle was offered to me. When our family arrived they said our rental wasn’t there and offered a small, compact car that didn’t suit our needs for the long trip. They said they would reimburse us but we haven’t seen it yet and I spent $16 each way on an Uber that they didn’t cover. So frustrating to have plans canceled all because they didn’t keep what we paid for and then lied about it when we called to confirm 40 min before we took an Uber to pick up the rental.
Awesome FAST car pick up at the…
Awesome FAST car pick up at the Nashville airport. I did skip the counter check in and literally walked out to the lot was led to a car, the agent helped us load our bags and we were away inside of 5 minutes. Drop off was equally simple just parked the vehicle walked up to the counter with my keys and rental agreement was asked if everything had been okay with my rental and was on my way. Literally the absolute fastest most seamless experience you could ever hope for.
ZERO STARS — AVOID ALAMO AT RDU
Nearly $3,000 in unsubstantiated/predatory damage charges, zero accountability, and an absolutely appalling customer experience. AVOID ALAMO AT RALEIGH-DURHAM AIRPORT
I genuinely cannot remember having a worse experience with a rental car company, from beginning to end.
It started with waiting nearly an hour in line just to pick up my rental car. The check-in process was painfully slow, disorganized, and inefficient. What should have been a straightforward pickup turned into an unnecessarily frustrating ordeal.
But that was nothing compared to what happened afterward.
When I finally received the vehicle, there was absolutely NO walk-around inspection. An employee simply handed us the keys, and we drove away. Nobody inspected the vehicle with us, pointed out existing damage, or documented its condition in our presence.
I returned the vehicle without incident. No damage was identified or brought to my attention at drop-off.
Then, weeks later, Alamo suddenly claimed I was responsible for damage to the truck and demanded an astonishing $2,947.60.
And the charges are ridiculous:
- $2,243.46 in alleged repairs
- $150 in administrative fees
- $329.80 for supposed "loss of use"
- $224.34 for alleged "diminished value"
That's more than $700 in additional fees on top of the repair estimate. Somehow, they even decided the truck had lost exactly 10% of its estimated repair cost in value.
The evidence? Three poor-quality photographs (attached) depicting what appears to be relatively minor cosmetic damage, which I firmly believe was already present before I rented the vehicle.
Despite repeated written requests, Alamo has failed to provide contemporaneous evidence demonstrating that this damage occurred during my rental. No documented return inspection establishing the damage was present at drop-off. No timestamped pre-rental photographs establishing its absence. No satisfactory accounting of who handled the vehicle after I returned it.
Even more concerning, their own documentation shows the truck had 10 additional miles on its odometer when the repair estimate was prepared compared with my return receipt. I specifically asked them to explain this discrepancy. They didn't.
Instead of addressing these legitimate concerns, Alamo's Damage Recovery Unit has been extraordinarily dismissive and unhelpful. The representatives I dealt with were rude, repeatedly ignored specific questions, and essentially told me their investigation was finished and they would continue pursuing payment.
Apparently, at Alamo, declaring an investigation complete is a substitute for actually providing evidence.
The experience has been so unacceptable that I've had to involve my insurance company and escalate the matter to the North Carolina Attorney General's Consumer Protection Division in an effort to resolve it.
What makes this especially infuriating is the complete lack of accountability. Alamo didn't conduct a walk-around inspection with me at pickup, didn't identify damage to me at return, and then expected me to accept a nearly $3,000 bill based on photographs and an unsupported determination of responsibility.
I have rented cars countless times and have never experienced anything approaching this level of incompetence and disregard for customers.
My advice: Avoid this location entirely. And if you absolutely must rent from Alamo, photograph every inch of the vehicle before driving away, record the odometer, and insist on a documented return inspection.
I would never rent from this location again, and I would strongly discourage anyone else from doing so.
Smooth and easy Car Hire experience at Halifax Airport
We picked up our rental car from Alamo at Halifax Airport on 18 August. This was our first time using Alamo, and we were pleasantly surprised by how smooth the process was.
There was no queue when we arrived, and the pick-up process was fairly quick and straightforward, which was great after travelling. The car was clean and fairly new, and we were happy with the vehicle provided.
Overall, we had a positive experience with Alamo and would happily use them again on a future trip. A hassle-free car hire experience is always appreciated when travelling!
We was asked to check the car for…
We was asked to check the car for scratches on our own with no one from the company with us we was in a underground carpark in the PM so the next day in day light checked the car and took pics after returning the car I said are you checking over it with me they said we will do it later then charged us for scratches to a wing mirror so I sent a email to show my pics I took of the mirror that was already scratched and they said I couldn’t prove when I took the photo we will never use this company again £1100 for scratches we didn’t do
Booked a people carrier for 4 weeks
Booked a people carrier for 4 weeks. Used skip the counter, the agent helped us with our luggage and pointed out a nearly new vehicle only done 800 miles. We really appreciated his help. The vehicle was great for luggage and performed perfectly. On return the agent was polite and helpful. We always use Alamo as they come out best for vehicles and cost.
Poor customer support
Wouldn't release the car, said they could accept digital payments, their competitors at airport were more than happy to. Staff at desk said full refund would be issued. Been waiting over two months and numerous emails still not resolved. Use Avis or another company for an easy life.
Terrible Experience
Terrible Experience! Avoid Alamo at Frankfurt-Hahn Airport! One of the worst car rental experiences we have ever had!
We booked a 7-seater VW Sharan in advance from London, expecting to collect it at Frankfurt-Hahn Airport and drive to an important event. However, upon arrival, we were told the car had an engine warning light and could not be provided.
No replacement vehicle, no alternative transport, and absolutely no assistance were offered. The staff were rude, dismissive, and completely unhelpful. We were simply told to contact the third-party booking company.
We were left stranded at the airport and had to take a bus into the city to find another rental car, which cost us almost three times the original price because of the last-minute booking. As a result, we missed our event reservation, and our entire day was ruined.
Mechanical problems can happen, but the complete lack of customer care and professionalism was unacceptable.
Absolutely disgraceful service! I would never rent from Alamo again and strongly recommend others avoid this branch at all costs.
Roadside assistance never showed, Customer service didn't Care!
I am extremely disappointed with my experience with Alamo Rent A Car, especially their customer service.
I rented a van for a week-long Disney family vacation. About a day into the rental, we discovered a huge bolt in the rear tire, and the tire had already lost a significant amount of air. I followed the airport prompts for roadside assistance, used the link I was sent, and completed everything I was supposed to do. No one ever followed up or contacted me.
We spent thousands of dollars on this family vacation, and we were not going to spend our limited vacation time sitting around waiting for Alamo to deal with a vehicle that was unsafe to drive. Instead, we walked and used shuttles far more than we had planned, kept the van parked most of the time, and only drove it when absolutely necessary. Even then, we had to add air to the tire multiple times.
After the trip, I contacted customer service and requested a partial refund, not even a full refund, because we were unable to safely use the vehicle we paid for. I also provided proof that I had attempted to resolve the issue through roadside assistance. Rather than acknowledging the inconvenience or offering a reasonable solution, customer service repeatedly told me that it "wasn't their fault."
Well, it certainly wasn't ours either.
I had my children in this vehicle, and I was not willing to risk their safety driving around on a tire with a large bolt in it. Driving more than an hour each way to exchange the vehicle would also have taken a significant amount of time away from a vacation we had already planned and paid for.
The most frustrating part was the rude and condescending way the situation was handled. I wasn't asking for something unreasonable. I simply wanted a fair partial refund for a rental vehicle we could not safely use as intended.
10/10 would not rent from Alamo again. The vehicle issue was bad enough, but the customer service afterward guaranteed that I will take my business elsewhere.
I was not happy with my interaction…
I was not happy with my interaction with alamo. The weights were extremely long, I left a jacket in the car and I immediately contacted them to pick it up and they said they didn't find the jacket. I then received two bills from toll Crossing and they charged my credit card without my approval. I just feel that they are very unprofessional and they do not accommodate their customers
I rented a car for nearly 80 days and…
I rented a car for nearly 80 days and had nothing else than problems, bad service when collecting the car at the airport and when the car broke down I had an extra 1000 USD to pay for all the hassle, in overheads. Never again Alamo and Enterprise.
They charged me twice on my credit card
They charged me twice on my credit card. I pointed this out at the time of picking up the car but they said it's fine it'll all settle. Sure enough however, both charges have gone through and customer support are not coming back to me. I'm having to raise it as a dispute on my credit card. It's a shame because otherwise the rental experience was good, but this is unacceptable.
Never again alamo
After I returned the vehicle, Alamo claimed I had caused damage to it and immediately withheld 400 euros from my security deposit. Judging by the reviews here, this seems to be standard practice. I have been trying to get in touch with an Alamo CZ manager for weeks, but so far, I’ve had no luck. I have now engaged legal counsel. NEVER AGAIN with Alamo.
