I recently purchased a used car from SMC

I recently purchased a used Mercedes from SMC Ford and had an excellent experience from start to finish. Steve was incredibly helpful throughout the entire process, keeping me informed at every stage and always responding promptly to any questions I had. His communication was clear, professional, and reassuring, making the purchase smooth and stress-free.
The car was exactly as described and presented in great condition. Steve went above and beyond to ensure everything was taken care of and that I was completely satisfied with my purchase.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend SMC Ford and Steve to anyone looking for a quality car and outstanding customer service. Thank you for making the experience so easy and enjoyable!

SmcFord Gravesend

SmcFord Gravesend. Sales team are good but thats it, if you have a problem they are rude and will do anything to get out of warranty work. And couldn't even diagnose a faulty battery.

I thought I could trust Ford

I thought I could trust Ford, but I ended up spending far more than I was originally quoted.

I was initially told that the issue with my vehicle was covered under warranty, which was a relief. However, after the repair, new problems appeared, resulting in additional visits and extra costs for vehicle hire on top of the repair expenses.

I took the vehicle in for diagnostics and was told everything was fine and that I could continue driving it, despite having to regularly top up the oil. I later discovered that the actual issue was the wet belt, which ultimately led to my car breaking down on the motorway.

To make matters worse, a member of staff suggested that I make an insurance claim in a way that I believe would have been fraudulent. I was shocked by this advice and found it completely unprofessional.

Overall, my experience with this branch has been extremely disappointing. Poor diagnostics, additional unexpected costs, and unacceptable advice from staff have left me with no confidence in their service. I would strongly advise others to avoid this branch.

I knew I wanted a hybrid EV of some…

I knew I wanted a hybrid EV of some sort as a new car Senior Sales Executive Shah Monaf spent the time showing me current range of Ford hybrid EV and arranged a test drive in a Kuga PHEV; I explained I needed a few weeks to make my decision I appreciated that there were no chasing emails or phone calls. I made my mind on what hybrid EV I wanted and booked an appointment with him.
Shah Monaf recapped on what we had discussed on the colour, level of trim and that was open to ex demonstrator. He had 2 to choose from, which is the option I went with.
The whole experience lacked any "sale pressure" or urgency to complete the deal.
I very enjoyable experience

I purchased an ex-demonstrator MS-RT…

I purchased an ex-demonstrator MS-RT van for over £60,000 from SMC. Unfortunately, since taking ownership, I have experienced numerous issues, including a rattling bulkhead, an intermittent tailgate that fails to latch properly, and various parts of the body kit coming loose.

As the supplying dealership is over three hours away, I contacted my local Ford dealership to have the issues investigated. I was told that the rattling bulkhead and tailgate fault were not warranty claims, which I found completely unacceptable on a vehicle of this value.

I then contacted Jamie at SMC, who confirmed during a telephone conversation that these issues should be covered under warranty. He asked me to email both himself and my local dealership so that the matter could be dealt with between the two dealerships.

I sent the email and waited two weeks without receiving any response from either party. I then called SMC and was advised that Jamie was unavailable but would call me back. No call was received. I subsequently emailed both dealerships again and only received a response from my local dealership. Jamie and SMC failed to respond.

A further two weeks have now passed, and I am still waiting for a response from SMC while additional parts of the vehicle are starting to come loose and fail.

I have now contacted Ford directly regarding the matter. I do not usually leave negative reviews, but after spending over £60,000 on a vehicle and receiving this level of after-sales support, I feel it is important to share my experience. If this review helps another consumer make an informed decision, then it has served its purpose.

Excellent service

Excellent service, fast and efficient. All done without going to show room. Shah went above and beyond to help us find our perfect car even when I had to change appointment time/collection last minute. Then when the windscreen had a chip it was sorted same day without a fuss. Thank you Shah!!

Helpful sales executive

The sales executive, Shah Monaf, was friendly and very helpful. When he knew what I was looking for he went to some effort to locate a car that met my requirements. He was also helpful with the administration of purchasing the car.

A great experience!

Although I’m not local, I recently purchased a Kuga from this garage. I found the whole experience quite refreshing in all honesty. A someone in the motor trade I am only too aware of the bad reputation we have - and a lot of it deserved quite frankly ! However from my initial phone call with the sales department to collection a week later, everything was professional and polite. I have to add here that the car is great . If there’s one thing above all else to make me walk away from any retailer, it’s the pushy pushy hard sell from the get go and then for all those ( usually unnecessary) “extras”. Joseph Harper, our contact at SMC is the clear exception. He didn't know I am a mechanic . However he left me alone to look over the car and road test in my own time , without any pressure whatsoever - and once we had the sale agreed, he emailed me those “extras” to review at home, and accept if I wanted. No pressure - no repeated questions as to why I didn’t want them. Thank you Joseph.
All in in all a very pleasant experience!

Liam super helpful

Needed some advice about parts and spoke to Liam (Ford Uxbridge) who was so incredibly helpful. I've been struggling to work out whether to fix my car that's been in an accident and it's been so difficult to get information from various people that dealing with Liam was like a breath of fresh air. Please pass on my thanks to him.

Dont buy new or used Fords they break!

Dont buy new or used Fords.

Ford has always had the status "First on rubbish dump", for a reason. Their internal design of the Ford Focus is pure rubbish and when it comes to servicing the car. You have lego technicians that are only there to replace parts and do the most basic service to limit time on how long they spend with the vehicle.

I bought a new car from them about 6 years ago.

My oil light came on the one day. After following all servicing guidelines using Ford Services and being on time with services and I have history logs. This means nothing to them. I sent my car via AA to a Ford dealership. Because I took my car to Group1 instead of SMC Ford they said because they dont know what kind of service is being done or what they are doing to the car there is not much that can be done. A nice way to avoid any payments towards the car. Because the dealerships are not linked, (but you think its Ford). Dealerships automatically go against each other when it comes to servicing or repair.

The wet belt on my car went which caused an oil pressure drop in the engine. To replace the wetbelt and oil pump and including labour was £2100. The wetbelt is meant to last for 10 years or 144000 miles. Now I am unsure if this has damaged my engine even though they have said they "checked". All they use are these tools from Ford and don't veer anywhere outside of this. This is all the technicians have and the technicians cannot think for themselves because the business just wants them to do the bare minimum.

The Ford Focus Eco boost engine is well known for its trouble with oil wet belt failures and I would expect from when my car gets serviced that this is checked. However Ford services will not check this because it takes 4 and half man hours to get to, to be able to complete. So this for me is a slap in the face as a customer as something that is so critical in functioning should be checked and thus the reason why I said the Ford internal design sucks as it will break considering its a rubber band.

I will not be purchasing another Ford again as their internal design is rubbish and more to the point I have no confidence in Ford services as it seems as though they have lego technicians that will only replace the part when it breaks, rather than being proactive and informing customers that they should replace the part now before it damages the engine.

More to the be informed about critical areas that need to be checked and that can have a massive impact on the rest of the car core components if not checked by servicing.

This is what Ford does, lures you in with reasonable prices knowing full well that their product is poorly designed not too last past 5 years of use and clearly they do not follow any Kaizen philosophy in improving their product as per their status of product. Still the rubbish internals with the service on top. Buying a Ford car you are taking a chance and I bought my car new. This is the worst purchase of my life and I am utterly dissappointed with the Ford car and its after service.

Ford cars are unreliable and servcing the car is worst. Good job Ford you lost a customer. Now to buy a Japanese car.

SMC Is this a scam?

I am leasing a mobility car from SMC, Pier Road, Gillingham, Medway. I've never had any problems before but this dealer is a nightmare. I paid SMC the up front fee and £650.00 for a hoist to be fitted by a company called Ergo mobility. They have arranged this but want an extra £610.00 to be paid on the day of installation, which we were not told about. I tried to contact the sales person, but guess what, I haven't

had a reply. This may be a scam. I would certainly NOT recommend SMC to anyone who wants a Motability car. They seem very disabled unfriendly.

Did not pick up for booked repair and still no call from them

Recently had my car booked in for a repair with the Gillingham branch. After working a night shift I woke up at 06:30 for collection at 7 from Michael. He did not turn up, it is now 3 days later and after 8 calls to them to try and get a reason why (only 1 answered) I still haven’t got a call back.
No apology
No explanation
No attempt to rebook/get the work done

Definitely would not recommend

Faulty used car but no support

After sales issues at SMC Uxbridge . Two cars purchased in two years and both broken down with the same issue .
No after sales support but guess once they get your money , they really do not care . I’ve submitted a complaint to Ford UK and the car finance company . Please do not buy a vehicle from SMC as they clearly sell used cars that are not checked properly before purchasing.

Ford Puma ST

I recently purchased a Ford Puma ST from this dealership, having made an initial enquiry online I was contacted by one of the sales staff that from the word go was very professional and extremely helpful with all of my many questions. Due to my location being some distance away Mohammad took it upon himself to send me a video of the car as I had noticed in one of the photos that the car had some slight damage. Having watched the video which was full of detail about the car and its features I was happy to travel down to the dealership and take the car for a test drive. Mohammad kept in contact the whole time and was extremely helpful and patient with me when I had a good look over the car. The car’s stunning and I was quite happy to purchase it with some great offers added in to the deal by Mohammad. Really impressed highly recommend the dealership.
