The bank is not safe for account protection. Received notification my phone number changed, called and informed them never opened an account, went through their questions and could not get confirmation account closed. Two days latter, called back and insisted. A day latter received email, my monthly statement available. Customer service related to fraud not helful.

Three weeks ago, I was told it would take 3-5 business days to verify my new account. I've called four times with no help and CIT hasn't contacted me at all.
If it's this hard to *give* them money, how hard would it be to get my money back?? Nope. They've lost my trust before we even started.
(In response to CIT's "heartfelt and personal" reply, HAHAHA. Read the room, get a clue, too little too late. Still putting the onus on the customer who *was* trying to hand over cash. If you aren't trustworthy enough to earn the business, you surely can't be trustworthy enough to hold (and return) the money.)

CIT discriminates against certain banks they won't connect with. They won't share the list but if your financial institution is on it, you can't transfer money into or out of the CIT account. Two weeks and wasted hours of inaccurate stories about why no money was moved to my new account. They repeatedly invited me to pay them to move my money. Why would I pay for their systems not to work? Constantly put on hold for unclear purposes. Not worth the hassle of dealing with their runaround in a competitive banking market. Closed account.

Tried to open a savings connect account a week ago, but said they’d need more info and would email or call me soon. They never reached out to me regarding the status of my account, so I called to see what was going on. Was waiting for help for 30 minutes before I got through to someone, and they told me my account wasn’t approved (which I never received any communication about and I am assuming wouldn’t have if I never called) and that I’d have to fill out a new application because I used auto-fill for things like my address and phone number. Tried filling out the new application, and before I could even complete it, they said they wouldn’t be able to open up an account for me at all and stopped me from finishing. Opened a with another company and it got set up immediately. It shouldn’t be this hard to open an account!

The bank itself is fine, but I get an error message at least 1/3 of the times I try to log in — website and app both have this issue. I have to wait an hour or so before it's functional again. This obviously is not workable, so I'm leaving.

Online banking verification is often down, throwing out verification errors from various PC browsers/phones.

I had about 20 minutes on the phone waiting for a customer service representative to tell me that I couldn’t do a transfer out on my iPad! Apparently they have no trouble processing deposits, but make all kinds of trouble trying to get your money out. I also have had a problem with apparently somehow they have created a reverse ACH transaction in my checking account. I could go on about their crappy customer service but the other reviews that are here are dead on.

If I could leave zero stars, I would.
Just got off the phone with the comically named “customer service” number.
For whatever reason, my account is locked and I am not able to access it via the app or browser.
Fine. Ok.
Maybe it was a glitch and was locked due to some breach, inactivity, whatever.
For 99.9% of companies that allow online account access, when an account is locked you call the customer service line, they verify your identity and unlock your account.
Not this clown show, I mean CIT Bank.
The customer service lady told me there was nothing she could do on her end and to “delete the app and reinstall it”.
Huh?
I tried logging in through a browser.
Same error message ; “ Account access is locked, call customer service”.
After being put on hold no less than 4 times, she gets back on and tells me to send a photo of my DL to some random call center email address. No subject line, no attention to, nothing.
When I asked how long it will take to have my account unlocked after emailing the photo, Ms. Helpful says, “ Well, it is Friday so probably not till Monday.”
Fantastic….
Avoid this “bank” at all costs.
Run to your nearest brick and mortar bank and thank them for letting you open an account there. Seriously.
Don’t be suckered in by high yield savings account rates by “banks” like CIT.
It’s not worth it.

I genuinely hope that not a single other person signs up for an account with this POS company. Opened a HYSA, had the account open for a month and a half with no issues at all, until they randomly closed out the account and withdrew every cent in it. I called, and they said they're sending me a check with the money because the account needed more verification. Not once did I receive an email or notification that I needed to submit any kind of documents. It was a joint account, and the only joint account my spouse and I had. Now I have to create a separate joint account just to deposit the check, all because these absolute idiots don't know how to communicate and help their customers. Genuinely hope they rot in hell.

I have been with this bank for at least three or four years.i had to get another phone to replace my phone on record because the one on record tore up. I couldn't keep my old number therefore, I couldn't get the code to access my account. I called customer service and I gave them the wrong email address because I have two. They locked my account and gave me an emailed address to seen my driver's license to. They told me I would hear from them in a few days. I stayed on phone with this representative for over an hour. I called back this last Wednesday and I was on phone another hour with nothing accomplished but she told me that the department I sent my driver's license to had until tomorrow to get in touch. Tomorrow came and gone and I didn't hear from anyone. I have been trying to get in my account for over a week with hours on the phone and still can't get into my account where my money is. I am almost 79 years old and shouldn't have to go through this to get into my money. I am not sure I will ever get into my account. I also have money going into two accounts every week. To say the least, I am very frustrated.

I transferred a significant amount of money to CIT to open a CD since they have good CD rates. It has been impossible to fund the CD account online. As an online bank, shouldn't this process be simple? Apparently, NOT. I have had to call customer service once and they were useless.

What is wrong with this bank? After providing all of the personal information they requested (to open a savings account, not to borrow money or get a credit card) my application was "denied". What are they doing with all the information they scammed from me???

Beware! If you don't fit perfectly in their ai box, you cannot open an account. We are retired and we travel and live full-time in our 5th Wheel. Because our cell phones are not in my name and their Ai pinged my location and it isn't where our house is, they refused to open an account. Security is one thing but many people these days travel full time and the fact that the girl wouldn't even put a manager on the phone so that I could discuss this made me realize we were probably better off not getting an account here. It's okay though, Morgan Stanley was more than pleased to open our account and the Customer Service we received was amazing!!!

2 weeks to set up an account and still waiting is crazy!
Guess they didn’t like my review.
They denied my application.

Worst bank ever! I’ve been banking with many banks and from my experience, CIT has the least inexperience reps! They need to be trained better and also the technical department sucks! They’re so behind with technology!!!

I opened a High Yield Savings. The delays showing funds and access to my funds, worried me and decided to withdraw. The withdrawal/return to my other institution, was quite difficult. Plenty of customer service calls. Finally, on the 13th day after opening, I received my funds back to my Chase account. Being an online only bank and with economic financial uncertainties, I will stick with the banks I know, in spite of appealing bonus 6 month interest rate.

I TRIED so hard to give them some money. The web site failed twice using Edge. Hung up with white window while trying to connect to bank to fund. Called support and they were fairly useless but she walked me thru the same exact failure. So she said to user another browser. That got me to 'account creation denied'. She could not help me anymore and could not create an account for me. It's like they don't want money. I don't get it. so I went to SoFi and had no problem creating an account and giving them lots of money.
I called that number and nobody can help me create an account. So that did me no good.

I don't know why this bank has such a low rating on here. I've been banking with them (just an online savings account) for over 4 years and have had no issues. Their savings rate is among the highest in the nation and there's no holding period either. I haven't had a requirement to contact customer service so I wouldn't know from that experience like many other reviewers. But from my experience with banking with them, it's 5/5 for the highest savings rate.

If I could give a negative 10 stars I would! Horrible experience. I have been a customer for over 2 years and for the first time tried to move money to an external account. What a nightmare!!!
Customer service is a joke.

Be cautious when applying with this institution. I’m genuinely concerned about having my personal information on file with them now. I recently applied for a high‑yield savings account and was denied, despite having an 835 credit score and a six‑figure income — and my wife earns the same. Given our financial profile, the denial makes no sense, and it raises red flags about how they handle applications and information. At this point, I’m uneasy about the data I shared with them.
