Easy to use and comprehensive. I like the hints facility.
'Leaf' I contacted help me solve a family tree issue which began when a DNA was kindly given as a present a few years ago. At the same time a family tree had already began (unknown to me) by a step family member who mistakingly added me as the eldest child of my step father's family. I hopefully now can correct these problems and find out more about who my real father was at last!
I have some professional experience but even an amateur researcher would find Ancestry easy to follow.
The website offers new suggestions and ideas to check out to help with further research.
I sent my first kit off on 16th July and it got lost between Belfast and Shannon. I waited the 4 week reccomended time before getting in touch to arrange a replacement kit. The replacement was sent from Germany and was stuck in Heathrow Airport for 2 weeks!! I assumed it was never going to be delivered to me so I reached out on chat again to request ANOTHER replacement. It's now being sent from Ireland. Great. I received a kit today and tried to activate it but I couldn't. I reached out on chat - AI chatbot useless but I got to speak to a human, Sinovuyo.
They said the kit wouldn't activate because it was the kit sent from Germany and that I should throw it away as it wouldn't work now because I'm getting another kit. I pointed out how wasteful this is in terms of the materials (plastics) used in creating the product and also the fact that the kit was sent from Germany. Their response was horrifically rude. Copied from the transcript "(8:51:23 AM) Sinovuyo: The company really loses but we have to provide anything for our beloved members.
Was that all for today? After this chat kindly check out on your emails for a survey, I would really appreciate your feedback regarding my assistance today.
(8:53:04 AM) Sinovuyo: Thank you for contacting Ancestry today, I hope you have a lovely day and take care!"
They closed the chat while I was typing!!! Absolutely horrible customer service. If the company is that concerned with losing out, they should provide a much better service. It's the customer waiting MONTHS for a simple kit and result who loses out.
Literally use any other service. I've been waiting since July; it's now September. This was supposed to be a fun birthday present, but it has been such a stressful situation!
I have found out a lot about my family tree directly through using Ancestry and more through the DNA service which helps a lot with information

I've been a member of Ancestry for some years now. During that time the company has 'tweaked' the format and display - these 'tweaks' are always an improvement. The information is constantly evolving, as more people become interested in their roots and, of course, with more people taking DNA tests, both of which factors increase the pool of information available. I've found people to whom I'm related about whose very existence I knew nothing of. It's so interesting to be able to find out so much about where I've come from.

I naively purchased a DNA kit in the recent sale promotion and am now bitterly regretting it! I ordered it on 9th August, and despite being shipped the next day, it still hadn’t arrived 15 working days later. I called Ancestry on 28th August to let them know I hadn’t received it and they assured me that a replacement kit would be sent out to me.
Today (2nd September) it appears that the original kit finally arrived, but is now unusable due to the replacement kit being issued. So now I have been advised by Ancestry that I will need to wait for the replacement one - if that ever arrives!
I am very disappointed with this. I have gone back through my tree and deleted all media I previously uploaded, as I don’t see why I should make any kind of contribution to your site when your customer service is so poor!
I will be cancelling my membership at the earliest opportunity!

Enjoy using app to find out all sorts of things about our family past
Been with Ancestry for 14 years now and have made some really big discoveries about my ancestors. It takes a lot of time and dedication and it’s not as simple as copying tree hints you really need to do your own research in order to be as near to 100% correct as you can be. Making use of the subscriptions is well worth it and with a DNA test it really does clarify you are on the right track. Also a DNA test can be fun as l've discovered a heap of close family and even an Uncle! So just do it you wont be dissapointed! 🙂
The hints are very helpful because you can see how others are interacting with ancestors that you may share. This is invaluable.
Human agent was brilliant, friendly and helpful, however the telephone system left something to be desired. I rang the number it was answered, enormously long pause then robot offered 3 or 4 options from renewals to DNA. I selected one for customer service and once more there was along pause, so long that the first time I rang in I hung up, second time I phoned in exactly the same happened as previously with long pause after answering, and rediculously silent long pause after I'd selected an option.... so long that like me the first time people are going to hang up. You say hello, hello and nothing happens, and after what seems an eternity of a wait eventually the phone answer system puts you through to a really nice human. So 1* for answerphone robots and 4 -5*s for the human agent.
