There is a nutjob stalker on their site who has vandalized my family for YEARS. We report her and they do nothing. We have been depending on the site because we use the "view relationship" feature as an adjunct to our GEDmatch research. BUT since FamilySearch won't do anything about vandalizers we have had to create our own site with our own tree. The software is called Next Generation. It has the "view relationship" feature. SO long FamilySearch. Nice knowing ya.

I have a tree on your site and I am really disappointed in how many mistakes I have to correct on my family members. I do a lot of research in retrieving documents and pictures. When I know that my information is correct, I put it in. The next day I go back to this site and all the info I put in has all been changed and with the wrong information. This is so disheartening that I am considering pulling all my documents, Pictures etc and any other info that I have put in to create my tree. When and if I do decide to pull everything off my tree I will not be recommending this site to anyone that asks me about it. You need to shape up this site or you are going to lose honest good people on here. I believe there are a lot of young people on here that really don't care what they do to mess things up on this site. I don't think you have the oversight to keep things in check. Everyone is just running a muck on this site. I hope that you take this under consideration or you won't have a very good site.

This website is pretty bad.

Can't add photos, can't show cousins or uncles/aunts in the same tree, and their spouses, etc.

After reaching out for help from a person online, who is deleting research from a historical figure that you can look up on any Internet platform that cited that’s backed up this person was deleting and deleting the information vital information at that we are doing paid research paying someone to do. Our family tree with this is our upon hours of work that keeps getting deleted. We reach out to them twice and they suspend our account instead of correcting the bad behavior. We reached out to the customer service. They’re unsure why they would do that we’re then asking through email. What’s going on no response so I would like to know what is gonna be done to

Great source for genealogical research, but skip the family tree. Anyone at anytime can remove your accurately researched ancestors and replace them with erroneous forefathers. Example: a mother gave birth to her firstborn at the age of 2 years old. Somebody call Guinness World Records!!
Allowing a collaboration of anyone and everyone to edit your family tree is ridiculous. Anyone can sabotage your well-researched tree and there's nothing stopping them.

The best solution: DONT USE THE SITE: its full of stupid people who can't do research, Familysearch just sent me a link to check if a person was my Greatgrandmother and the link was correct, except whoever posted the facts for her have her marriage date as 31 August 1844 and her birth date as 1863 wow I never realised you could marry so young yes her birth date is 15 December 1862. This is not the first time I have found huge discrepancies on this site there is so many people who post incorrect facts that they obviously don't know how to check and double check info before posting. Not only but a certain person entered details on my family history on this site and changed details of mine that I know are 100% correct. As I always check on multiple sites incl BMD and GRO and if there is doubt I will not post. But J Grimes is not a person like me in just one incident. So I am afraid all the people who want to trace my ancestors I advise not to check information on Familysearch.org as its probably not true. If someone wants information they can contact me through Myheritage. Yes I just noticed the site is full of mistakes there ethics are terrible and its best to steer clear.

First of all, I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. The issues with this site are not because of the church or any church policy. They are because of incompetent dishonest people running this particular site. It is unfortunate that those people are not being fired. In reading the complaints I have seen posted in these reviews, I do not believe the church would condone the bad actions of those running this site.
I am disappointed that this site will cover up truth and post and promote and condone lies, if it makes a LIAR feel more “comfortable.” I posted a legal government issued document – a death certificate, and an autopsy report, that told the actual cause of death….not my opinion, or a story I made up….the legal documents. But, the woman who caused the death and was lying through her teeth about it, wanted it deleted. She posted the preliminary death certificate, which just listed the cause of death as “pending.” That certificate was allowed because it made her “feel better.” Same document - the true one banned the phony one allowed. Death certificates are not listed in their guidelines as questionable or too sensitive, neither are any other government issued documents listed as unacceptable to post. I pointed that out to them and they still refused to post the actual death certificate because they said it was “too sensitive” What is too sensitive – it is just an actual fact!!! But the phony one is not too sensitive and it made someone feel better so they allowed that one. And, they do threaten to block you from the site for putting information out there that they just randomly decide is not suitable - even if it is within their guideline as acceptable, if some crazy person doesn’t want the information known. So, they cover the truth with lies, they sell lies as truth, they coddle and support LIARS (I believe that is how Satan rolls isn’t it???). Ancestors cannot find out what actually happened to their family members….they only get the “story” that a liar wants to be told and to be believed. So, if you want a fantasy, or the fictional story of your ancestors look no further. But, if you want the truth and the actual history of your ancestor, “this is NOT THE PLACE.” Unfortunately, you cannot trust the information on this website to be accurate and truthful.

The latest android and iPhone version is hopeless takes far too much screen it's OK on pc but on tabs and phones hopeless

Recently, I noticed an increasing amount of false / misleading information on AI about members in my family tree. I remembered seeing that this company was mentioned as being a source of some of the information.
I contacted the company and asked about the way I had been treated in the past and about the false information online.
They implied that I was a liar.
Apparently, anyone can access any of their family trees and put whatever they want to about people that they do not know.
How can you build a family tree when anyone can add misinformation to it or change it?
This morning I received an email from them that I believe I was never meant to see.
It seems to me that it was an email that was supposed to be sent internally.
One quote from this internal email: "It may not help to speak with her, but it may be worth a try."
They stated that I am argumentative, but all that I want is the truth to be told about my family members on line.
A few months ago, I stopped using their service because of errors on their part that they still deny,
I also did not appreciate all of the spam that I got after I stopped using their service.
I would not recommend this company to anyone that wants to make a family tree that is truthful as Family search admits that their information is not necessarily true.

I raised a legitimate privacy concern as a European user with a marginalized background and their support team was extremely unhelpful and dismissive, treating me like I was stupid when they fail to inform users that your tree is not private and that deleting a tree does not actually erase your contributions to the site. This is ridiculous as many large genealogy sites allow you to create a private tree so it isn't an unreasonable expectation. While it is great that they make so many records available for free, their support team do not care if you have legitimate privacy concerns so be careful when choosing your username if you don't want to be personally identified by family members you don't want contacting you or knowing what you're doing online. Deleting a tree does not actually delete anything and this is not made clear during the deletion process. Their support team could have simply advised I delete my account and respected my rights as a European resident, but instead chose to give me a rude and condescending response. Highly do not recommend.

Constantly have to go back and correct your tree because people who don't know how to research or don't even bother to do any sort of research not even bothering to match dates, name, family, ect. Continuously merging or deleting people and everything else makes a mess out of your tree. You can't lock it and can't do anything about it except for correct it every time don't waste your time and energy.

it used to be good. Now, when l ask about my family, they give me different names from other countries and no the country that l requested. It is a mess.

I found many useful records on FamilySearch, but some of them later disappeared from the platform and are no longer available.

FamilySearch has a shared Family Tree with over a billion people in it. Many of the reviews are from people expecting to have their own, private tree, and are annoyed when someone messes up their data. The shared tree's goal is to identify as many people as possible who have lived, and how they are related. On almost every other site, you spend most of your time either re-discovering what others have already found, or copying from their trees. This feels cleaner, because you have one, consistent view of your data (whether or not it is actually right). But if you look at all the conclusions in all the trees at other sites, there is at least as much total error, plus massive duplication.

For me, the great thing about FamilySearch is that I can "pick up where others left off," and I can get new work done "once and for all", so that everyone benefits from my work.

I do believe there is room for improvement on how easy it is to correct the mistakes of others. And there should be more guidance to prevent users from making mistakes in the tree in the first place. But I love that I don't have to start from scratch in this combined tree.

Awful site, the search engine is useless, ask specific questions but give you everything except what you ask for. Waste of time

Please do NOT use this site. I went on here to search my grandmother who passed away in 2024 and they have my name misspelled, me listed as a man (I am a woman and have always been one by the way), and also have it listed that my husband is my grandmother's grandson. How in the world are people allowed to edit data about someone's family that isn't accurately verified? My advice, stay away from this site and try to find information from close family members who can set you on the right path.

Very poor idea. the fact that you put your family tree on there, thinking it is YOUR OWN family tree,
then find out that anyone even remotely connected adds facts and people to it, with incorrect information quite often!
I got quite frustrated at having to alter facts and even delete wrongly-added people. having to check and re-check that no-one has tampered with my carefully researched tree.
I have stopped adding to it and have my own tree on the Reunion app. At least I know it's correct.

I have researched my family tree carefully, using only information I could verify the source for. I joined familysearch just out of interest, and to see if I had missed any connections. I have found it to be riddled with errors and incorrect information added with no source. Children I know died in infancy have spouses, random children are added born to women in their late 50s, people are linked to 2 sets of parents... at least in my family line it is a hopeless mess.

They write lies about surnames and names and spread misinformation on them. They refuse to amend the misinformation.

FamilySearch is free! It is very hard to find a quality service that you don't have to pay a lot of money for. I have been very pleased and impressed with the genealogical research tools that FamilySearch provides. I have been able to find deceased family members because of records. I've been able to add memories to my family members. I highly recommend using FamilySearch as a great tool to document your family history.
