Stating offers are nice, but....

They provided a nice starting offer that allowed a number of beers to be tried at a below cost price, but their recurring monthly cost is well above the value of what they ship. Their shop does not really help as it does not offer volume discounts for a beer that you may want to purchase in quantity. The result is that if you find a beer that you want more of, you end up buying it from someone else.

The cancellation process is a joke, as it will break the UK Consumer Act of 2024, when it comes into force next year, which will require

"For subscription contracts entered into online, an online cancellation process must be made available and these processes must also be prominently displayed. Consumers may also use other methods, such as email or post, to end their subscription contracts. "

Instead, the multi-step on-line process ends with a phone number to call. At this point, they will try to upsell an offer to keep you a customer. The problem for their bottom line is that if it is a good offer, the caller is likely to accept it and then just cancel the next month.

Hi Roger. Thank you for your comments. Our prices reflect that we support our smaller breweries, vineyards and distilleries, rather than larger productions. Our suppliers often have larger overheads when producing smaller batches of their beers, wines and whiskies Our products are of the highest quality and we offer many products that aren't available elsewhere, we produce a monthly magazine that customers enjoy reading, Our magazines for our beer, wine and whisky are included in every box and give our customers a wealth of knowledge on how we source our products, how our producers make their products as well as wonderful stories about the region they are produced in the stories behind their breweries, vineyards and distilleries.

Our boxes not only include our beer, wine and whisky, but we also offer a quick and free postal service, snacks and our product magazine in every box as well as amazing offers to use and share with family & friends. Our subscriptions are discovery clubs where our customers can choose to enjoy new and wonderful products every month, bi, or tri-monthly and of course, can cancel at any time should they wish to. We are sorry our prices may not be within budget for everyone all of the time but we of course try our best to balance our cost and supply prices as best we can.

If you did want to contact us but were unable to phone our customer service at 0131 285 2684 for whatever reason, you could also contact us via Facebook Messenger or Twitter DM as well as dropping us an email through our support desk via this link https://www.beer52.com/helpCentre/home. Our help centre link is at the bottom of our website and emails to our customers.

As you state, new rules come into play next year. Our processes align and comply with all current regulations for online subscriptions. We are regulated and supported by Trading Standards.

Thanks Beer52

They may get their act together one day!

Well, they have moved on from their last fiasco to a smaller new one.

I guess to try and regain the trust of some of the old lifetime members (and an addition income stream) they have offered some reactivation pricing available until the end of this month.

They can't even get this right as the 1 year pricing provided in the email is not the 1 year pricing shown on the website when you go to sign up. I noticed this a few weeks back and mailed their support team, but have not received a reply.

Thanks for flagging this, Roger, you’re right to call out the inconsistency ($19.99 instead of $19)

Hope one day we finally get our act together🤞🏼

Signed up for their YouDrive/black box…

Signed up for their YouDrive/black box car insurance. In general, it works as expected, but it has major issues when driving on dual carriageways that have roundabouts.

At just about every roundabout, I get marked down for "Don't slam on the brakes" when the fact is that I am becoming a hazard to other drivers due to trying to slow down far earlier than them, while also dropping to a near stop. So rather stay in lane, they start to change lanes to get around me.

The issue is that at such roundabouts, it is common practice for drivers to drop down from normal speed (often 70mph) to a low speed and then only stop if there is a vehicle coming across their path. YouDrive seems to want to treat the roundabout as a junction with a stop sign at every entrance.

Hello Roger,

Thank you for your review and for taking the time to share this with us.

I'm sorry to see that you've not having the best experience with the telematics policy. The Telematics team does take into account that you will have to adapt to the road ahead and that this, as well as other road users can cause you to take actions that may impact your score.

As a result they acknowledge that your driving score won't always be at 100. For the sake of the policy, it just needs to be above 30. If you have any questions or concerns, please call our YouDrive team on 0333 999 8911. ~Theo, Social Media Team

When you set up an account via the app

When you set up an account via the app, like just about all providers, they ask for a debit/credit card to be able to bill against.

Unlike just about all other providers, they then take £20 and provide no way to have it refunded.

The aim of signing up is to be able to charge my car as and when needed, not provide a free loan to the company.

Good afternoon Roger,

Thank you for your feedback, and we are sorry to hear about your concerns regarding the £20 charge.

When you set up a credit account on the InstaVolt app, a one-time £20 validation amount is taken to confirm your payment method.

This isn’t a fee or deposit, the full amount is added to your app account balance and can either be used towards your charging sessions or withdrawn at any time via the app or our online portal.

If you need help withdrawing the balance or have any other concerns, please feel free to reach out to us at info@instavolt.co.uk as we’d be more than happy to assist.

Kind regards, The InstaVolt Team

This company is just not worth the…

This company is just not worth the time.

So I received today (30th) an email stating that my service had been deactivated on the 28th. So their ability to communicate is near zero.

The reason they claim is because they acquired the original VPNSecure business 2 years ago (something they did not tell anyone) and they claim they did not take on the liabilities, which can not be proven or disproved.

To use any VPN provider, you have to trust them and believe that they are operating correctly, openly and fairly. Something that the current operator seems unable to do.

We appreciate your feedback and understand why this situation has left you disappointed — especially with how it was communicated.

You’re right: the email should have come earlier, and we take full responsibility for that. The timing was far from ideal, and many users felt blindsided. That’s on us.

To clarify, VPN Secure was acquired in 2023 via an asset-only purchase. We did not acquire customer contracts, obligations, or past revenue, and unfortunately, the existence of lifetime subscriptions was not disclosed by the seller. We didn’t gain full access to the database until months later, and once we understood the situation, we chose to keep those accounts active for two more years at our own expense.

We understand that VPN services are built on trust — and we know that trust has been damaged for many lifetime users. We're not asking anyone to blindly accept it, but we are committed to being transparent and fair moving forward — even if this chapter didn’t begin the way it should have.

While standing in the queue at the Asda…

While standing in the queue at the Asda Roehampton customer service desk I got to hear the staff member explain to a customer that they only offer a 1 year warranty on electrical goods and the second year is between them and the manufacturer.

Such a statement must have been written by head office to allow the company to fob off customers as it does not take into account any aspect of the Consumer Rights Act 2015 and the fact that goods must be "fit for purpose and last a reasonable length of time". It can be summed up as the following

The Consumer Rights Act 2015 is a guarantee for the consumer against poor workmanship and misrepresentation for a period of time during the life expectancy of that product, which should be no more than 6 years in the UK.

The Consumer Rights Act 2015, Section 23:132 protects consumers in situations such as these. According to this section, You have the right to insist on the repair or replacement of faulty goods, with the costs borne by the trader. Additionally, any costs associated with the removal and reinstallation of the replacement should be covered by the trader. If the goods were purchased as new, the replacement should be new and identical to the original.

I called them to see how the process worked

I called them to see how the process would work so that I could consider them as a backstop option for as and when I move house. With the state of the market knowing that I can have at least a 'buyer of last resort' is useful when stuck in a chain.

When I explained my aims the agent was helpful and not pushy. They provided me with the info I was looking for with a fair estimate of how much they would offer vs any sane price an agent would want to place on my home.

I can not provide any feedback regarding the rest of the process that they offer.

It seems that Interactive Investor is…

It seems that Interactive Investor is now having their staff ask for reviews of their support to be posted to this public review site. Such such it is just a way to try and gain votes on Trustpilot.

So should I review the staff member who resolved the issue or the state of the IT platform that caused the issue in the first place and the ongoing nightmare that is my SIPP transfer that was caused by II changing the services it offers? The 1 star comes from the IT and transfer issues.

Also, should all the full names of the II customer support team be posted on a public site just to gain some marketing point?

A good service when you can access it, but sadly they allowed their system to book a slot for weeks in advance and while other providers are limiting customers to a single booking at a time it seems that Ocado are not managing things so well.

Started to switch as their pricing seems good, but whatever validation they use for banking details has problems as it claims my account details are not valid - at which point their support just starts to blame my bank and tells me to use alternative banking provision. As they only accept DD instructions this is a stupid statement as few people have more than one bank account.

Some nice deals and their customer…

Some nice deals and their customer service process is very good. The only problem is the 3 network which is totally overloaded for data usage. At 4 am I can get speeds of 29MB/9MB, but during the day I'm more likely to see download speeds of 0.2MB which makes the unlimited SIM a total waste of money.

Again their product does allow you to simply walk away after a month as they have no long term contracts.

Hi Roger, thanks for the feedback, it's a shame your speeds are slow during the day, generally our 3G average speed is about 7Mb or 8Mb per second, and 4G is about 20Mb per second. That is across the whole base not specific to a post code, the can vary due to strength of signal and congestion. And re images and videos that depends on what Data usage you have, as videos and larger images use more data if sending via What's App 😊 I'm glad you like the flexibility that SMARTY offers though👍

T&Cs get in the way of honest reviews.

One of the biggest issues I have with the website is that the reviews of products are restricted by the sites T&Cs from stating the price paid for a product. This means any review with states things like 'value for money' becomes meaningless as there is no way to know how much the reviewer paid for the item.

Very clear site that reports all the detail from the 4 main UK credit agents. The site also has a free trial period, 0800 number support and an easy to use way to cancel without anyone trying to upsell their service.

By looking at all 4 credit agents side by side it is easy to tell if any of them have got incorrect details on you and so gives you an easy way to find out who needs to fix what.

Shipped what I ordered correctly, on time and at low cost.

They did what I needed them to do without any issues.

There service could be improved by -

- The dispatch note did not indicate who the item was shipped with or how long the shipping would take.

- All the emails I received after placing the order had an 0844 number to call. Since 13th June 2014 the Consumer Rights Directive has required businesses to switch to lower cost prefixes (01,02 and 03) for inquires from customers.

- During the order process for a basic (cheap) steam cleaner the system tried to up-sell limescale prevention tablets which for such a low cost item would quickly become more costly than just replacing the device every few years.
