Annoying now introducing trading fees - overall not sure what the point of N26 is

Bit annoyed that they now introduce trading fees - (0.90 € per trade, irrespective of size) initially (first few years) they offered free trading which was obviously attractive, now they must have realised that this isn't profitable enough for them. Annoying - if you know something is likely not sustainable, don't start it in the first place!
The solution - I am in the process of transferring all my shares out to other brokers. Tip: Trading212 has no fees & interest on cash balances for multiple currencies with good support. There are other brokers that are free for example if buying/selling shares for over €500.
The banking with N26 is ok - nothing spectacular, you probably get better service elsewhere - having had a N26 account for perhaps 10 years I now tend to use other bank accounts.

Hey there, thank you for your review.

According to our T&Cs, we have the right to proceed with a change to our fees, after a communication with our customers.

how difficult is it to send an annual statement for the tax office??

I used to be bunq customer several years ago. I closed my account and removed my app from my phone in early 2025. (really happy to get away from that horrible "bank") I still got a little bit of interest payments from bunq up to February 2025.
I have asked them to provide me with a postal statement of interest for the tax office for 2025 - unlike every other bank I know bunq refuses. Instead I was told to re-install the bunq app, re-identify myself etc etc.
why? They are just greedy bank - I am sure it wont break the bank (sorry for the pun) to simply post me an interest statement for 2025.
I offered that they could email but they won't do that either. How difficult can you make it for your customers???

Review of Auto Europe Deutschland GmbH

limited or no functionality Desktop apps on lifetime plan, Processor overheating

Not so sure what to think.
I got a very cheap lifetime plan... well, you get what you pay for.
Very basic functions - uploading and downloading files seems to work via browser but not via App for Windows or Linux.
Problem: running Internxt on Linux using firefox or chromium - overheating processors/very high system load so I stopped uploading large folders, sadly unable to resume upload.
Desktop app does not work for Windows or Linux, in Linux seems to crash almost immediately after opening; and if I am trying to use the "sync" function it tells me to upgrade my plan! why? seems that they reduce functionality for lifetime plans - despite aggressively advertising lifetime plans. Not sure if the desktop app for lifetime plans has any function at all (apart from displaying the content of the internxt folder - which does not sync... see above)
Impression - probably ok as a very basic service on lifetime plan, maybe better functionality on subscription?
UPDATE 14 August - after receiving message from Internxt I downloaded the latest .deb file (internxt_2.4.9_amd64.deb) trying to run this, the application - like before - just crashes on opening.
I tried appimage (Internxt-2.4.9.AppImage) but would not launch despite giving relevant permissions and after creating an specific apparmor profile (am running Ubuntu 24) Internxt app opens but immediately crashes (like in a previous version) - other appimages run fine.
Have not tried Windows app yet.
I think people for loooong time have said that their Linux app doesn't work.
2nd UPDATE 19 August - I emailed hello(at)internxt.com as requested with info as to what happens - no response.
So... it seems that Linux desktop apps (both .deb version and Appimage) do NOT work, basically crash/freeze on opening.

So far so good

So far, so good, obviously relatively new service - but I hope that they will survive long as I got a (very good value) lifetime storage deal.
Still a bit basic, but Dave is very keen to develop new services such as desktop client - including one for Linux.
Have been using them for around 9 months, no complaints. - Nice up- and download speeds. Nice interface.

Review of Contabo

Rated 2 out of 5 stars

Poor service

Poor service, VPS actually very poor performance, so I cancelled the service after around 2 1/2 months.
Stupidly I had ordered a 6 months subscription - despite poor service I still had to pay the remaining 3 months of the subscription even though I essentially stopped using the VPS (only some minimal usage). I just today (12 Feb) had to pay for another full month even though the VPS subscription ends around 28 February.
Compared with other VPS who had similar specs (RAM, CPU) quite poor service, also somewhat surprising that Contabo told me that my CPU /RAM usage was 100% or so when my own monitoring showed usually 50% or less - apart from spikes.
Lessons learnt: do not subscribe for longer periods with Contabo - I accept that Contabo did try to improve the VPS performance by allocating more resources to me but that solution only lasted for a few weeks. Essentially the VPS was unusable for 4/5 out of 6 months . So I paid for an mostly unusable VPS for 4-5 months. - I used Contabo some years ago and was not impressed then either, but thought I would give them another try...
UPDATE - 19 February. even though I submitted info to Contabo (for example my customer number and email) promptly once requested no response received so far - actually Contabo did respond later in the day offering an extra month's service and moving to a different host system - however as I no longer need the VPS I will decline this offer.

needing repeat (!) Video identifcation to log in

Really difficult to log in!
so... regularly I have difficulties logging into my Trading 212 account - I then have to take a video-selfie (!!) in order to log back in.
I think that is simply not good, just now I tried around 5 times or so, every time there was an error with the video selfie, Error message "something went wrong" (what exactly??) throwing me out of the log in process.
Why do they not offer another verification for example 2FA with SMS or email instead of video - selfie?
Like most people I have many many online accounts where I can regularly log in and don't experience the problems I experience with Trading 212 - I have not come across a "repeat video identification" anywhere else. I think this is completely OTT -
on the verge of giving up on Trading 212 now if I cannot log in reliably!
Update after their response. the problem is that in order to take the video selfie one has to move the head in certain positions which then seems to cause errors with the app and one cannot log in. how stupid is that?!?

We're sorry to hear about the troubles you've been facing.

We understand how frustrating it can be to encounter difficulties, especially with video-selfie verification. However, this feature is designed to enhance security and protect your account from unauthorized access.

We haven't received any reports of disruptions with the video login flow, and we want to investigate what's causing the difficulties on your end. Please get in touch with us at info@trading212.com so we can check the situation and assist you in completing the login process.

On a side note, the available methods for 2FA are through a trusted device or a 2FA authenticator. Still, we appreciate your feedback on adding alternative verification methods and will consider the suggestion.

I think fantastic service

I think fantastic service, very clear app,
nice stock information etc. Have been using this for many months now. Quick deposit and withdrawals.
I would give 5 stars if shares were commission free. (ETFs are commission free)
Also, very impressive report function, for example with a click of a button report about capital gains, dividends, interest received say in GBP but also facility to have a report with equivalent EUR values. Other brokers take ages for similar reports. Also competitive interest on GPB deposits.

Usually excellent platform but deducting fees for CHF deposits

Usually excellent platform, commission free investing, fractional shares, good tools and multi currency support. BUT am annoyed about Trading 212 withholding from my deposit amount in CHF.
I deposited a fair amount in CHF from my Swiss bank to the Bank details provided by Trading212. My Swiss bank added CHF 4 for the transfer and transferred the full amount to Trading212. However on checking my account there was a deduction of CHF 25 from Trading212. Trying to raise the issue via support (Radoslav A) was completely useless as he just copied and pasted what you say on your website for "cross border transfers" or "foreign currency" transfers without looking into the actual transaction. (please note I sent CHF from a Swiss bank to your CHF account with JP Morgan) He did not look into this issue properly.
btw... I have not experienced this problem for example with GBP or Euro deposits - if this is a recurrent issue I shall be looking for another CHF broker.
update - a manager of Trading 212 is looking into this issue and has offered me to submit a complaint, but would be better if they investigate this from their end initially
Update - it is not quite correct if Trading212 state that they absorb banking fees, clearly not the case in CHF transactions.
after receiving the complaint Trading212 offered me a free share worth around GBP 7.

Thank you for sharing your feedback.

We understand your concerns and want to provide some clarity on the situation.

Intermediaries or correspondent banks may be involved when transferring funds in foreign currencies (e.g., USD within Europe). These banks facilitate the transaction when there isn't a direct relationship between the sender's and recipient's banks.

Foreign currency transfers typically utilize the SWIFT system, which is why fees might apply. However, transfers in EUR within the Eurozone are processed via the SEPA system, which generally does not incur additional charges.

We don't charge any fees on bank wire deposits. The costs associated with such transactions are standard charges tied to international SWIFT payments. We absorb any fees deducted by our bank to minimize the impact on our clients.

We hope this explanation clears up any confusion. If you have further questions, please don't hesitate to reply to our latest message in the in-app chat.

Review of DPD Pakketservice

Rated 1 out of 5 stars

SEHR sehr schlechter Kundenservice

Useless - avoid - unless you want to play document-ping pong!

Absolutely painful new customer verification process. I had sent them at least 4 documents (personal ID like passport, several recent utility bills, confirmation of residence etc)
I emailed them one document (utility bill) , they asked me to resend the same document via app 2 days later. Afer over 1 month submitting-resubmitting documentation they still have not been able to verify me, Support is essentially useless. I have no idea how they can actually operate as bank.
In the past few years I probably opened at least 5 bank accounts/saving accounts with other banks, never had problems like with them

I note that almost all the 5 star reviews here are from people who have only left one review so far... suspicious that is!
update 23 July. Bunq have asked me to resubmit the same document that I had already submitted, how disorganised can you be?
They will probably write something like "we take our legal obligations/anti-money laundering requirements very seriously blah blah blah..."
UPDATE 26 July - well, Bunq have verfied me!! They said originally that it would take 5 minutes, in my case 5 weeks! :( What did I need to do?
1. perseverance, perseverance, perseverance
2. resubmit resubmit resubmit information/ID documents/utility bills, I think some documents I submitted 4 (!) times
3. and, obviously a negative trustpilot review seemed to concentrate minds on their side.
Sadly... them faffing around lost me 1 month of higher interest rates, the introductory bonus started from the moment of application, not from moment of their approval. Shame on them!

Review of ElephantDrive

Rated 2 out of 5 stars

Other providers offer MUCH better service

Review Elephant drive
so I thought I would try stack-social offer Elephant drive, 1 TB for 2 years.
Big mistake. I guess you get what you pay for…

Multiple problems/issues.
1. not very intuitive setup, unlike some other cloud services where one does not need to read through reams of „help pages“

2. one of the key things really should be cloud backup, and one should be able to choose for example a new cloud folder where the local backup goes to. That is impossible as one only has 2 options in folders, either equivalent to a directory on my local PC (but then it becomes an endless "directory chain" and you have to click through, for example PC/local/File/path to file/backup/folder etc to get to your files) or to „everywhere“.
also seems impossible just to move one folder in the cloud drive into another, I can “delete” a folder, upload or download but not move – why is that?
The problem with „everywhere is that it seems that there is always/by default 2-way sync. So if I upload a folder with data from local „everywhere“ folder to the cloud, but then don't need the local folder any more and delete it from the local folder it also seems to disappear in the cloud – after longer searching I found it in “archive” – which is risky because data in “archive” get deleted unless you specify for them never to get deleted! No way of changing this. - other providers have up to 5 options of sync:
- local to cloud,
- cloud to local,
- sync local and cloud folders (ie keep both in sync),
- local backup,
- cloud backup, ..... why not here too?

3. File size limit, other providers have huge files size limit , here it is 10GB, why? If I create for example zipped archive of data… that can easily exceed 10GB.
Perhaps only plus is that they have a Linux desktop app , but other providers have a much better functionality for their Linux app. In that context, the Linux app only comes as .deb package, other providers for example have an appimage (safer imho).
Coming back to the app: For example if I want to upload a folder to the cloud, - ie separate from the „established“ backups - I need to use both app and website for this. For a functional app that should not be necessary, ie just do this from within the app without needing to log into the website as well.

5. Following on from this issue - needing both the app and accessing Elephant drive via browser for it to function - the whole thing is very buggy, for example just tried to download a folder, get error message “In order to transfer files securely, you need to install the ElephantDrive application.“ - well I have got news for Elephant Drive, this application has been installed and is running! Still this error message persists, meaning I am unable to download a cloud folder on this occasion! needed to log out, log in etc then it worked.
also, there is no way of previewing files on the cloud - a functionality many other providers have.

4. other providers have a useful “Transfer manager” which shows progress of upload/download and a rough idea re ETA. I accept Elephant drive have a very very basic transfer manager but seems the actual transfer manager was not always visible and "disappears", for example if going on another tab of their website. With other cloud providers one can stop/resume backup but that does not appear to be possible, only to cancel altogether. Also, no indication if up- or download is going to take 20 mins, 2 hours or 20 hours…. Why is that?

5. Also, for info, testing Cryptomator – unlike with other cloud providers – leads to errors/inability to open a downloaded Cryptomator archive.

6. Support - while quick, I felt my queries not answered, for example regarding above issue of various backup options/sync options, I was just sent the same link to their website 3 times which fails to answer my queries probably 2 out of the 3 times.

So have just cancelled the account , will ask for stacksocial refund , not sure if that is going to happen. wish me luck...(update - I did not get a refund but a credit for further purchases at stacksocial)

I have used a number of cloud providers, currently am regularly using around 3-4 others, which are much clearer, better developed with significant better functionality, much easier to use, having a more modern interface - unlike Elephant drive where their interface does not appear to have been updated in the past 5-10 years! Suggest look elsewhere!

very good, professional service, quick restoration via backup

very good, reliable company, having used them for more than 3 years now - incredibly quick with support, for example I have a VPS with them, but - in error - upgraded the ubuntu server to a newer version which meant that the programs I was using stopped working intermittently. A quick message to support and within less than one hour (!) on a Sunday the server was restored by their support, based on one of the previous 3 or 4 free weekly backups and is now running as before!
highly recommended professional service!

Quite impressive free broker

I think quite impressive broker. Regarding this review: I have not traded CFDs but only shares.
Initially I was not so sure, but after using them for more than a year I am quite pleased. For me strong points:
1. Obviously commission-free trades, no "minimum" amount per trade (I think I have once bought a single share for 0.150 GBP or so) , limit orders etc.
2. Multi-currency account, so you can buy US shares in USD, UK shares in GBP, Swiss shares in CHF etc
(for example I think there is only another broker offering free trades for Swiss shares)
3. Interest on non-invested cash, actually very good interest rates for example for Euro deposits current interest rate 4.2% which is more than you would get with most other banks.
4. They use Interactive Brokers, which explains why one seems to be able to trade a huge number of shares and ETFs (for example some other free /low cost brokers seem to have far fewer ETFs available) and I would feel fairly confident regarding deposit protection due to the shares being held with Interactive Brokers - if I understand this correctly, Trading 212 does not "hold" the shares but IB does.
5. Fractional shares is in principle good but sometimes confusing in that I want to buy 200 shares for example but then the "system" makes me buy say 201.5435 shares. I would give 4.5 stars rather than 5, just for lack of a bit more/nicer charting.
There are other features like autoinvest I have not used.

I think has gone down in quality

I think that N26 has gone down in quality. I was quite pleased until a few months ago.
I was victim of phishing; N26 made me submit all the info around 3 times, only to tell me that they would not be able to help me.
I also needed to cancel 2 direct debits at short notice (having unsuccessfully tried twice to cancel the subscription directly with the merchant who failed to respond twice) but N26 makes this as complicated as possible: With other banks this is just a click on their app or Website, but with N26 I need to download a paper (!) form, fill this in, sign it, scan it, email it back and hope it gets actioned in time. Why, if I can for example do a bank transfer directly on the app without needing to send a paper form, why not allow the same for cancelling direct debits?

Review of The Co-operative Bank

Rated 2 out of 5 stars

Used to be good an reliable bank

Sadly The Coop Bank has gone downhill the past years. We opened an account with them nearly 30 years ago as we were attracted to an ethical bank. While very happy over many years, over the past 5 years or so the Coop Bank has gone downhill significantly.
Trying to get through on the phone - just forget it. Like so many reviewers state, you are kept on hold for absolute ages.
So you have to rely on their banking website, but their website seems to be redesigned every few years, so one has to get used to a new design; the most recent redesign is really unclear, not intuitive, just a pain to use.
There are ongoing issues, for example to set up a standing order, or amending the reference for a standing order (or an invoice paid in the past to the same recipient, but obviously needing a different reference number/Invoice number) one needs to re-enter the password. This regularly leads to crashes in the website which I pointed out in the past but the problem persisted. Why does one have to re-enter the password, one is already logged into the website?
Also, most websites have an option to make an entered password visible temporarily to check one has typed it correctly. But not so the Coop banking website. Just poor practice, typing error leads to having to re-enter everything again (login, password, code). I dread having to amend invoice reference numbers or setting up a standing order or similar...
Coop Bank - I have logins for dozens of websites, including obviously financial websites, I usually manage to get done what I need to get done but I dread having to set up standing order, amend bill payment etc at your website.
Please do get your act together and make your website user-friendly. Please do not keep redesigning your website all the time for no reason, please reconsider need to re-enter password twice (I can't see any security benefit in this) etc.
An no, I don't want to contact customer services, have done so in the past, please just improve your services as described above.
UPDATE 3rd JULY - Additional Info - after receiving feedback from the Coop, (No I am neither on facebook nor Twitter...), the point is that (1) the combination of NOT being able to make an entered password visible (a feature that almost every other website has!) plus (2) the need to re-enter the password (again, I cannot see any security benefit in this, one has already entered the password in order to log on; again I do NOT recall any other website that is asking to re-enter the password) this combination of (1) and (2) makes it impossible for me to know as to why I get an error message when re-entering the password. I am not going to send you a screenshot for privacy reasons, I just get the ".........." instead of password plus an error message, and not clear if this refers to the Code entered, the password or anything else as the website does not state where the error is. For example if I were able to see the re-entered password I would know what the error is - as far as I am concerned I re-entered the details (Password, code etc) correctly - but your website still gives an error message . so please
1. review the need for re-entering password and
2. offer facility to make an entered password visible, (perhaps even just temporarily) as almost every other website does.
Ah... and how can I forget? the problem with getting through on the phone has been there for probably 5 years or longer , like a "stuck record" one hears that you have "an extremely high volumes of calls"...but - unlike what you write, that is not "recent", it has been the case for many years now... so why have you not done anything about this?

Hi, thanks for your review. I'm really sorry to hear that you're unhappy with the service that we're providing.

I will make sure that your feedback is passed on regarding the wait times customers experience when contacting the bank. We have been experiencing an extremely high volume of calls recently and we are working to address this issue.

I will also ensure your feedback regarding the website is passed on.

When amending information on a Standing Order or setting up a Standing Order you will always be prompted to re-enter your password. We class this as a sensitive transaction as you're amending account details and this is therefore classed as a new beneficiary. It is very concerning to hear that this process is crashing on you though. Review of Dukascopy Trading

Rated 1 out of 5 stars

Dukascopy Bank - essentially stole money from me, useless support department who can't read emails, AVOID

Increasing fees, no help from their support department

lets start on 22 February 2023.
Sadly I am seriously thinking of switching banks due to high fees, now even for CHF card transactions.
Initially I was quite pleased to find a Swiss bank that allowed me to quickly open an account even for non-residents. I also like their 911 App.
however I am increasingly unhappy about their fees, especially as there are now cheaper alternatives such as Yuh.
While the account itself is free, every bank transfer is charged at CHF 2,30. For the pleasure of having their card (a debit, not a credit Visa card) they charge CHF 2 per month.
However the final straw for me was that Dukascopy/the card issuer started charging me 2% in fees for CHF card purchases (other card issuers did not charge me) so in total I lost quite an amount in additional fees.
When contacting Dukascopy they said it is not their problem but to contact the card supplier. Initially they gave me a wrong Name (Swiss Bankers) who I contacted. But it turned out that my card was actually issued by Corner, so I needed to contact them.
However, I am disappointed that Dukascopy - who after all charge me regularly for the Visa card - did not contact the Card issuer on my behalf. Surely if "big Dukascopy" contacts the card issuer there is far more pressure there to get this rectified.
I have now started using Yuh and am pleased as there are no fees, for card withdrawals, for bank transfers etc and there is even a small credit interest.
UPDATE 15 April 2023
So, it took Dukascopy customer services around 1 month to respond to my email in response to this review here. (note I originally raised the issue approx 2 months ago) it appears they have not read the email I sent and asked me to contact Cornercard which I had done already 2 months prior with no response. (Email correspondence to Cornercard was forwarded to Dukascopy) So it seems that their so called "customer service" is essentially non existent. I am glad I found Yuh which seems to work well so far and does not charge any fees unlike Dukascopy.
UPDATE 7 May 2023
I think their support is basically useless. I had emailed Dukascopy since February, then again emailed all the info twice to support (at) Dukascopy since they left their response in March but I get one or 2 sentence "fob off" emails asking me to do things that I had already done with no success. Seems that their support are not really able to read emails??. Problem not solved. I now rang Dukascopy to explain the situation, and am waiting with baited breath if anything will come out of this. The person I spoke to was actually quite nice. for the first time a glimmer of hope... BUT then see what happens next, or actually didn't happen next:
UPDATE 1st July 2023. So, nearly 2 months later, 4 months after initial complaint/contact with Dukascopy re the above mentioned issues: Nothing has been resolved, no helpful response, useless customer support department, problem still there and now the card that Dukascopy are offering (Cornercard) is not even allowing refunds back to their card, but still charging me monthly fees. AVOID
UPDATE 17 July after receiving the "update" from Dukascopy.
I am just at a loss why no one in your department seems to be able to read emails. Basically what I complained about in my messages from February was excessive card fees of in total around CHF 70 for purchases (not deposits).
What you as support department were looking in your recent response was a completely recent issue which was to get refunds/deposits on the card which you do not allow to happen, which is unusual. (btw it is not correct what you wrote - I did respond twice to requested information promptly in the past few weeks) This is not a problem now as I am using y
Yuh where this has been possible.
however, this (deposits on the card) was NOT the issue I raised in February 2023. so I would be grateful if you could look into the issue raised in February, - excess fees for card purchases - like requested multiple times before. Very very disappointed.
UPDATE 25 July 2023
Dukascopy say "Please feel free to contact me in case you shall have any additional questions" which I did with above info over one week ago, no acknowledgement, no response.
Update December 2023
no response, no action, original problem not resolved. surprise surprise, stay away from Dukascopy. (never had any problems with Yuh, which I would recommend as alternative)

Dear Sir,

Thank you for reaching out and taking the time to communicate with us

First of all I would like to highlight the fact that as a highly regulated Swiss bank, Dukascopy has to apply strict rules when it comes to account and deposit approval.

Kindly note that after an investigation I have managed to identify the main cause of the delays of your deposits

Please note that due to the amount of recalls related to your deposits our compliance department have requested additional clarifications regarding you account

As we did not receive the necessary clarifications we were forced to cancel your transactions

Please feel free to contact me in case you shall have any additional questions

Best regards

Started charging 2% on CHF Card purchases for no reason

I have an account with Dukascopy and they started using Cornercard as a card provider. For the pleasure of a simple Visa debit card I pay CHF 2 per month. - Recently, Cornercard started repeatedly charging me 2% of fees for CHF payments, even though the base currency of the account is CHF. Contacting Dukascopy they said to contact Cornercard which I did nearly 2 months ago. Apart from an acknowledgement of email nothing happened. Disappointing!
(for those who read this and who are interested in an alternative card provider or bank account: a few months back I have started using Yuh which offers a completely free Mastercard debit card, and my experience is good so far)
Update 7 May 2023
Despite multiple emails to Cornercard - they acknowledged receipt - problem has not been resolved.
Update 1st July 2023
no response, problem not resolved, Their customer service non-existent.
Now second problem developing, that it is NOT POSSIBLE to get refunds on my card - why?? I don't think I have ever experienced that anywhere else that refunds cannot be processed via card. - AVOID AVOID
UPDATE December 2023, no response, problem not resolved. no interest from Cornercard having the issue resolved, AVOID!!

Much better than the reviews here in my experience

I am a bit surprised at all the negative reviews here. I have been using yuh for a few months and am very happy (apart from one thing - see below). Account opening easy even if you are not Swiss resident, no fees for things like having a debit card, bank transfers, etc (really! where else can you find free banking in Switzerland if you are not a resident?)you get even a bit of credit interest. Service seems reliable so far. I would give 5 stars if it were possible to do banking via website too and not just via the app: I personally find it much easier to do banking on my PC with a larger screen rather, being able to "copy and paste" bank details etc . But perhaps yuh is going to introduce a website for banking too?
Update December 2023.
This is just to confirm above review several months later, still very good experiences with Yuh, reliable internet banking, I can only recommend. (for example in contrast to Dukascopy bank - avoid Dukascopy bank!)

Increasing fees, no help from their support department
