Worst website and app ever, no support anywhere
Using the services provided by Iberia has been the worst, most frustrating and horrible experience I've ever had with any airline or other provider of services EVER.
FIRST of all, logging into the website is impossible. I don't mean this lightly. I work with IT and it has been impossible to get hold of Iberias support or solve the issue by myself. I have looked for help on many forums and nothing works.
Iberia doesn't support a clear means of communication for IT related problems and their support ticket system is broken. I was promised an answer within reasonable time, it has been over a month and my flight has both come and gone.
This company should go bankrupt. I hope it does. I will NEVER fly with Iberia again, their issues have been more than enough to scare me off for all future. I will highly recommend anyone to fly by any other means.
Get lost Iberia. You obviously don't care about your customers.
And no, the message auto generated by them does not lead to any additional support. Ignore it if it shows below my review.
Avoid at all costs
Seats are pretty upright and the bit of seat you actually sit on (not including legroom) is the smallest I've ever sat in for a long haul flight. Seats are very budget. It was incredibly noisy, like a gale force wind for the first 1.5 hrs, then it was only slightly better afterwards. No drink offered with the meal. They also didn't turn the lights back on after take off, before serving the food. I have flown with a lot of different airlines and have never sat in the dark to eat, nor never been given a drink before. 2nd meal on an 11+ hour flight was 1 small sandwich, not a proper meal. When I did ask for a drink, the only option was water or juice. Only a couple of hours into the flight and the toilets were already disgusting.
Disappointed with BA that Iberia are even an option on their website. Wouldn't ever fly with them again.
Horrible airline experience
I have traveled a lot my whole life and this was probably the worst airline experience I have ever had.
I booked a full-fare ticket almost three months in advance to attend one of my closest friend's wedding. I checked in online as soon as check-in opened the day before departure and believed everything had gone through successfully.
Later that evening I downloaded the Iberia app to have the booking more easily accessible, which unexpectedly asked me to check in again. Suddenly I found myself on a waiting list. The following morning, despite arriving at the airport almost two hours early, I was issued a standby boarding pass and denied boarding because the flight had been oversold. So my confirmed full-fare booking made three months in advance effectively became a standby ticket overnight.
And then it only got worse. I was told the first available flight was at 21:30, almost 12 hours later. However, Iberia couldn't even guarantee me a seat on that flight. When I asked whether I should buy another airline ticket if I wanted any realistic chance of making at least part of my friend's wedding, the Iberia agent told me that this would be a reasonable precaution - Imagine being told by the airline itself that you should buy another ticket because they cannot tell you whether they will transport you.
At the same time, Iberia's own website was still selling tickets for earlier departures than 21.30. When I questioned this, I was told those passengers would simply be placed on standby as well. Why continue selling tickets for flights on your website that staff already know are oversold?
I then had to wait for my checked baggage, leave the terminal, queue again at check-in and then return to customer service, all without any certainty that I would even reach my destination that day.
Every single interaction with the gate staff, baggage reclaim staff, check-in staff was consistently dismissive, unhelpful and completely lacking in empathy. The only response I repeatedly received was: "It's legal" and "All airlines do this."
Whether it's legal completely misses the point.
Customer service is about treating people with respect when things go wrong. Showing empathy costs nothing. Instead, I was made to feel like an inconvenience throughout the entire day. I eventually arrived almost 12 hours later than planned, missing my friend's wedding ceremony and most of the celebration - memories I will never get back.
During this entire delay Iberia provided meal vouchers worth just EUR 18 in total. Expecting passengers to spend almost an entire day waiting with vouchers of that value is unrealistic. And that was the total extent of their assistance.
I thought this had simply been an unfortunate one-off incident. However, only a few days later two of my friends experienced exactly the same situation on their return flight with Iberia which strongly suggests this is not an isolated occurrence but something Iberia relies on far more aggressively than any other airline I have personally experienced or ever heard of.
The process also made me wonder how elderly passengers or less experienced travellers are expected to cope. Many people still reasonably expect that, with a confirmed booking, they can simply arrive at the airport and check in at the desk. Instead, my confirmed booking effectively turned into a standby ticket overnight. Even as someone who flies frequently, I found the entire process confusing, stressful and poorly communicated.
The frustration didn't even end after the flight. Iberia's online claims form was broken, forcing me to spend part of my vacation on the phone with customer service just to find another way of submitting my claim.
Iberia may consider all of this to be legally acceptable, but legality alone is a very low bar. Companies that genuinely care about their customers and their reputation think beyond the legal minimum. They recognise that long-term trust is built through transparency, empathy and taking ownership.
After this experience I will never fly with Iberia again, and I will actively recommend that friends, family and colleagues choose another airline instead.
Flights cancelled from underneath us
We just returned from our trip to Spain and France. A few days before our flight home, I noticed our flight from San Sebastian to Madrid on Iberia was missing. We originally bought our whole trip through American Airlines. We called and after the finger pointing stopped, they rebooked us on the Iberia flight and gave us new ticket numbers. We then called Iberia and confirmed we were on the flight. We wrote the ticket numbers down just in case. We get to the airport to check in and nope, we are not on the flight. We were turned away! The ticket numbers we had, the agent told us "those don't mean anything to me! We ended up booking our flight to Madrid on Air Europa so we paid for tickets twice. Then we get to Madrid to board our Iberia flight home and that flight had been cancelled as well!! The agents had us stand by and allowed us to board the plane BUT then we were told we had to leave! My husband made a small scene on the plane, we did not deplane and we made it home. I have never experience so much stress and worry on a vacation ever. We have filed our complaints. We have posted our experience on every platform we can think of. We will never fly American Airlines, or Iberia again!
Worst experience ever
am disappointed with my experience with Iberia. Firstly, we were told on the website it would be more affordable to include extra baggage prior to the flight which we paid for 2 additional 23kg bags. Then, when we proceeded to the front counter, we were informed it would have been cheaper (about half the price we paid) to purchase the 2 additional 23kg bags at the counter. This was EXTREMELY disappointing to hear that we we paid more and the site has false and misleading information. If we had known it was cheaper to purchase at the counter we would have waited. I don't have an income at the moment, so every single cost matters.
I would in fact like to request a refund for this mishap.
Secondly, the airline staff were eating pao de quejo nearby to the gate, whilst passengers were lining up with no idea, no communication 90 minutes delayed boarding. Communication is vital, and it was disappointing to see no staff member could inform passengers standing and waiting. Eldery people were on their feet for an hour.
Thirdly, on the plane a staff member mocked my wife in Spanish, thinking she would not understand Spanish, we also overheard a staff member stating she didn't understand a woman ordering water and rolled her eyes, again, not knowing we understood Spanish. The social skills of the staff needs improvement, no smile. I also had a sandwiches accidentally dropped on my head by the airline staff - the staff member apologised, which I appreciated, but it really was not helping the situation already..
Appaling
My experience with British Airways and Iberia has been appalling, and I want to warn anyone booking flights with these airlines about what appears to be a very common trap.
If you book a ticket through one airline but the flight is operated by the other (a codeshare flight), be very careful.
In my case, I bought my ticket through British Airways, but the flight is operated by Iberia. The ticket didn’t include checked baggage, so I called British Airways immediately after booking. I was told not to worry because I would be able to add baggage later, closer to the departure date.
That turned out to be completely untrue.
For the last 10 days, I have tried everything to add my baggage. I’ve contacted both British Airways and Iberia multiple times, used both websites, and managed my booking through every available channel. Nothing works. British Airways says Iberia has to do it. Iberia says they can’t because the ticket was issued by British Airways. Meanwhile, neither airline offers a solution.
The only option I’m left with is to pay for my baggage at the airport, where the fee is significantly higher than if I’d been able to add it online.
The explanation I’ve been given is that “our systems don’t communicate with each other.” In 2026, that is simply not an acceptable excuse for two airlines that market and sell codeshare flights together.
This experience has been incredibly frustrating and has wasted hours of my time. Customers should not be caught between two companies, each refusing responsibility for a problem they created.
My advice is simple: if you’re booking a codeshare flight with British Airways and Iberia, make absolutely sure you understand the baggage situation before you pay. Otherwise, you could find yourself in exactly the same position I did.
Based on this experience, I cannot recommend either airline.
Worst service and still waiting on…
Worst service and still waiting on refund for downgraded and cancelled fights. Their service centre will just hang up on you. I've been waiting on a refund for over 6 months. Do not fly this airline ever!!!! Save yourself the headache.
I would not give a single star but gave…
I would not give a single star but gave one as this is the worst. In short, disruptions, entertainment computers do not work properly or do not work at all. Regarding the food sold, you LL never get what you order. For example you will get bacon instead of ham. The worst fly experience ever.
Sold me a premium ticket that never existed
purchased my ticket directly through Iberia on February 5, 2026, for a Premium Economy fare of $1,217.50, even though an Economy ticket at the time was approximately $500. I chose to pay more for the Premium experience and booked months in advance to avoid problems. I also paid $104 to reserve seat 1J, the first row in Premium Economy.
When I checked in, I discovered that my seat had been changed without notice to row 35 in Economy. I contacted Iberia and was told it was a system error and that my original seat 1J was still assigned. I was assured the issue could be corrected at the airport. The following morning, I spoke with two additional Iberia representatives, but they provided conflicting explanations and could not guarantee that my paid Premium seat would be available.
I attempted to cancel my reservation and purchase a Premium Economy ticket with another airline, but Iberia refused because my ticket was considered non-refundable. As a result, I had no choice but to purchase an XL seat for €91.
Although I purchased the ticket through Iberia, the flight was operated by Level. At the airport, the Level agent reviewed my reservation and informed me that I had never actually been booked in Premium Economy, despite my Iberia confirmation showing that class. The agent was surprised by the amount I had paid for what was ultimately an Economy ticket.
After submitting my complaint, Iberia stated that any refund must be processed by Level. When I contacted Level, they stated that the refund responsibility belongs to Iberia. At this point, after contacting both airlines, they are blaming each other and directing me back and forth to the other company instead of taking responsibility and resolving the issue.
This has been a very disappointing experience. I paid for a Premium Economy service that I never received, lost the seat I specifically purchased, and incurred additional expenses due to an error between Iberia and Level. The lack of accountability and customer support has made the situation even more frustrating.
I am requesting a refund for the $104 seat selection fee, the €91 XL seat fee, and the fare difference between Premium Economy and Economy, as the service I paid for was not provided.
Delays
We took a business class flight with Iberia in September 2025 from London to Peru via Madrid. It was booked via British Airways.
We arrived at our final destination over 12hrs late. Since the time of the flight we have been trying to get compensation from Iberia and the One World alliance for the following:
- we arrived over 12 hrs late as per EU Regulation we are owed 600 Euro per person. We have had this investigated by the Civil Aviation Authority who confirmed we were entitled to compensation. Iberia stopped responding to us and the CAA.
- they lost and significantly damaged our luggage. We had no luggage for 3 days. When we complained they messed us around to the point we were no longer eligible to claim from Latam, the airline they put us on a replacement flight with. Interestingly, Latam never ever had our luggage as Iberia had it the whole time but they have insisted that Latam are now responsible....
- they have refused to provide compensation following downgrading us from a business class to economy seat.
This is just a few of the issues we faced. The ground staff were rude and unhelpful throughout. We have put in a complaint every few weeks on their website and they do not respond. British Airways just respond with "be patient". Overall, horrible airline that is not fit to function
We are loyal BA customers so are disappointed with the handling of this case and will now be pursuing legal action to recover funds.
I am extremely disappointed with Iberia…
I am extremely disappointed with Iberia Airlines. I traveled with my brother, who has Down syndrome and has difficulty walking, and the way we were treated was unacceptable.
We needed basic assistance and compassion, but instead we felt ignored and unsupported. The airline staff showed very little understanding of his needs, did not make reasonable efforts to help, and did not seem to care about making the journey safe and comfortable for him.
Traveling with a family member who has a disability already requires extra planning and patience. An airline should recognize that passengers with disabilities deserve dignity, respect, and proper assistance — not to feel like they are a burden.
I hope Iberia reviews how it handles passengers who need extra support. Based on this experience, I would not recommend this airline to families traveling with someone who has special needs.
I specifically booked a hand luggage…
I specifically booked a hand luggage only ticket so I could carry it on with me. I hate checking in luggage as it has often been lost and causes delays at the airport. I was very disappointed when, on the day of travel, I received an email saying I 'had to' check in my hand luggage. At the airport (LGW) I was told this was the case. Ridiculous.
Lost baggage and zero communication
Lost baggage and after more than 20 calls, multiple WhatsApp messages and emails we have heard nothing from them. When it was initially reported they said to buy essentials and they would pay us back. But without any communication this is impossible and reading other reviews it appears to be their MO. Appalling

I was promised to get a voucher for my flights. I never received a voucher. Then I was told I would receive the recording of the call where my voucher was promised. I never received that either. Horrible customer service from Iberia. Embarrassing !!
worst experience ever
Flight from Berlin to Pamplona and vice versa, Business Class, 1415 € in total
The inbound flight was more or less ok, but in the BC from Madrid to Pamplona they offered just water and ice cream. Please keep in mind that the distance between seats is extremely small, even in BC.
For the outbound flight there was an delay for the flight Pamplona to Madrid by one hour, so I missed the flight to Berlin. The IBERIA counter next to H21 booked me into a flight 24 hours later – within Europe and with 3 flights a day between MAD and BER. As I said this is not acceptable the agent became very rude and arrogant. He refused that there would be any seat available either in BC or Economy for the morning flight. This turned out to be a straight lie, as I booked myself an Economy seat for this flight. Afterwards I went to the main customer counter (staffed with one person!) to ask for refund. After a long waiting time the lady rebooked me into the BC of the morning flight. During my waiting time a suitcase in front of the counter turned out to be unattended. I approached one guy coming from the back of the counter to take care of it. The rude answer was I shall leave him alone, it would be his break. So far about safety.
For the night I got a room in a nearby hotel. The room was ok, but the buffet they offered for IBERIA clients was absolutely bad: strong smelling fish and meat you could use as spare part for your shows. The only drink available was water.
During the morning flight they served breakfast. There was an omelette, some bread and a croissant – no butter, no cheese, no ham and / or marmalade to go with it.
Keeping in mind that I paid more than 1400 € for this experience, I will never ever book an IBERIA flight again. At the end it is the attitude of staff – showing absolutely no care for customers – which made this experience so bad. But the guy lying in my face said “I´m just doing what the airline wants me to do.” So, it seems it is the management behind.
Bad airlines
If there is zero star that’s what I would give this airline .shity service shity airport ,and racist security at check point for no reason .aena suppose to handle complaint but all they do is side with the passport check point security instead of taking care of paying customers, no considerations to families with kids either .i wish i looked at 50000 negative complaints before i got the tickets .add to that they found that people that were handling luggage were stealing from passengers, but instead of trying to fix the problem they blame passengers for lying .if you thinking about booking with this airlines don’t waist your money.
Iberia lost my luggage with my…
Iberia lost my luggage with my medication in it and has done nothing to help me recover it regardless of me telling them how urgent and important it is. Worst airline I flew with, arrogant customer service.
This has been the worst airline…
This has been the worst airline experience I have ever had.
Our luggage never arrived at our final destination last Saturday. We traveled to Spain for a wedding and vacation, but Iberia’s handling of our delayed bags has completely ruined the trip.
We were told that Iberia would not reimburse us for a suit or a formal dress for the wedding, and that only “essential clothing” would be considered. Because our credit cards were also inside the delayed luggage, we were left with no access to money, no medication, no clothing, and no toiletries.
As a result, we had to cancel our wedding plans and miss an important event we traveled all this way to attend.
Thank you, Iberia, for turning what should have been a special wedding and vacation into a stressful and humiliating experience. This is unacceptable, and we need immediate help resolving this situation.
Iberia customer service does not care
Our flight was canceled and we tried contacting Iberia customer service via phone number +34 913 336 701 and were held online for over an hour, transferred us to tree different agents and none of them told us they could not fix the problem but to “stay on the line”. Needless to say the problem was not solved and we ended up on a bus ride from San Sebastian to Madrid (7h) instead of a 1h flight. AVOID IBERIA
