WHAT A SCAM

WHAT A SCAM! They forced me to buy £450 insurance with them as my card had my name abbreviated so it wasn't good for taking the deposit. They accepted the same card to take my money to pay for the insurance though and the abbreviated name didn't bother them. As at the airport I had no choice. It clearly breach the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008 (Regulations 5 and 7).

Just don't reserve car from here

My main warning to other customers concerns the €200 cross-border fee. I booked the car for €404.10, but this significant additional charge was not clearly presented to me when I made the booking. I only became aware of it shortly before collecting the car. A €200 extra fee is obviously a substantial part of the total rental cost and, in my view, should be made absolutely clear before a customer commits to the booking.
At the desk, I was initially charged €350 for the cross-border issue. €150 was later refunded, leaving the €200 fee. Based on my experience, I am left with the impression that these additional charges can easily be missed by customers during the booking process. I personally find it very troubling if a significant part of the final rental price comes from fees that customers may not notice when comparing rental prices.
The rest of the experience did not improve my impression. There was strong pressure to purchase additional insurance at the desk. The condition of the vehicle was not properly reviewed with me when I collected it, so I had to document the car myself. The fuel tank was also only about three-quarters full, rather than full.
The rental location is outside the airport, which also makes the collection process less convenient.
My advice to anyone considering Flex To Go is simple: read every condition extremely carefully, especially the cross-border rules and additional fees, and document the vehicle and fuel level yourself before driving away.
Based on my experience, I would not rent from this company again.

1 STAR

1 STAR – DO NOT RECOMMEND

This is not the first time I have had a problem with this company.

In May, when I rented a car from them, I refused to purchase their additional insurance. I was then told that they supposedly had no car available for me, and I was left with no choice but to pay extra and rent a higher-class vehicle.

Now, months later, the same thing has happened again. This time, my credit card was refused for the security deposit, but the exact same card was then successfully charged £267.57 for additional insurance.

How can the card be unacceptable for the deposit but perfectly acceptable to take £267.57 from?

I feel misled and pressured into paying for insurance I did not want. This is completely unacceptable. I strongly advise other customers to be extremely careful when renting from this company.

Horrible experience

Absolutely disgusting company telling you at the desk that they don’t have any cars available for you but when you go onto the car park, there is like at least five cars parked on their spots. They just don’t honour cheaper bookings disgusting and I should read reviews before I booked with them. Unfortunately, reviewers and community members on Reddit and Discover Cars indicate that Flex To Go frequently tells customers they have "run out of cars" or invokes structural technicalities (like strict flight delay cut-offs or non-embossed credit cards) to cancel original low-cost vouchers. Multiple users reported that after being told no car was available, the agent pressured them to pay three times the original price to magically find a "newly available" vehicle.

NO NO!

NO! Never again! starting with attempted extortion upon arrival having booked thru Booking.com insisting that a $240 full tank and wash package was worth it when we were renting a hybrid and full one tank of gas for our compact cost $40 and car wash for $5 and beyond, insisting, attempting to intimidate and insult our intelligence during the 20-30 minutes we spent haggling over the value of that "offer" and another "offer" to upgrade to a bigger car; then being surly when we refused them--literally throwing a badly drawn map at my wife when she asked where she could pick the car up (about .5 miles away); then on return, their thuggish attendants at the parking lot laughing at us when we had difficulty getting out of the car from a tight space that they directed us to; then with flashlights going over areas where chips might be---along the door ridges and pointing out miniscule--actually--invisible chips. Only my wife's quick complaint email to the company saved us from potentially losing our $1k "damage deposit."
Bottom line- IN our opinion, these folks seem to use the rental business as a way to cheat their way to profits. Plenty of other, more honest choices.

Flex to Go or Licensed to Hustle would…

Flex to Go Liverpool Airport or Licensed to Hustle would be more appropriate. They will use whatever small print is needed to make sure you pay way above the odds no matter what deal you THINK you have on paper. We had a deal for 30£ but the real price was £90 because we hadn't bought THEIR insurance. Avoid this company.

On returning the rental the Flex to go…

On returning the rental the Flex to go operative went straight to the windscreen without checking rest of car and “found” a tiny windscreen chip. They demanded a new deposit of £2600 for the damage.
I requested an invoice of work for the windscreen but have just been provided with an estimate by the rental car admin staff on the day of £2600.
To date they have yet to provide an itemised bill of work completed nor proof of any remedial work.
I have rented cars for over 40 years worldwide and have never experienced such problems.
To my mind this is an unadulterated scam
STEER CLEAR !!

Worst customer service and attitude of any company I’ve dealt with typical shift blame behaviour

Extremely disappointing experience — without question the worst customer service I have experienced from any car hire company.

The car was booked at £63, yet I ended up being charged £137. A significant proportion of the additional cost appears to relate to charging a small electric car. My understanding is that the actual electricity required to charge a vehicle of this size would be nowhere near the amount I have effectively been charged — approximately £3–£5 depending on the charging arrangements. I have asked the company to provide a proper itemised explanation of how they can justify turning a £63 booking into a £137 charge.

That would be frustrating enough, but the vehicle itself was provided with a flat tyre, was dirty and was not even fully charged.

Despite being given an electric vehicle, I received no proper demonstration of how to charge it, where the charging equipment was located or how to use the relevant controls.

The app also would not initially allow me to open the vehicle. I spent around 30 minutes trying to gain access and find somebody who could actually help me. The company then focused on claiming that my sign-up/access process took only 12 minutes, rather than acknowledging the amount of time I actually spent struggling to access the vehicle and obtain assistance.

What has made the whole experience considerably worse is the attitude towards customer service afterwards. Rather than acknowledging the condition in which the vehicle was supplied or genuinely trying to resolve my concerns, I have felt that the response has been defensive and dismissive, with more effort being put into challenging my account of events than addressing why a paying customer was given a dirty, insufficiently charged vehicle with a flat tyre in the first place.

Good customer service is not simply taking somebody’s money and then quoting systems, timings and charges back at them when something goes wrong. It is listening to the customer, taking responsibility where appropriate and making a genuine effort to put things right. That has been completely lacking in my experience.

I have hired many different vehicles from many different rental companies and have never experienced a system run like this or encountered this level of customer service when raising legitimate concerns.

For £63, I expected a clean, roadworthy and properly prepared vehicle that was ready to use. Instead, I received a dirty, insufficiently charged vehicle with a flat tyre, no proper handover or explanation, problems accessing the vehicle through the app and then an extremely disappointing response when I complained.

The entire concept is supposed to make hiring a car easier and more convenient. In my experience, it achieved exactly the opposite.

I have now raised a formal complaint and requested a full breakdown of the £137 charge and an appropriate refund.

Based on both the condition of the vehicle and, particularly, the way my concerns have been handled afterwards, I would not use this company again and could not recommend them to others.

Definitely don't recommend

Definitely don't recommend! Trying to scam more money from me (the customer) since the start, late to collect me, trying to push me with the time from collection that I would lose my booking (although they were late to pick up) if I didn't provide a document that wasn't mentioned on the confirmation email and trying to charge me more to cover this, then the grand finale on return kept my FULL deposit saying there was damage which was the smallest minute mark, not even visible on normal inspection that the mark was anyway wear and tear. Very inappropriate, unhelpful and illegal in my opinion, absolute scam "company" (if you can even call them that). Definitely don't recommend!

My experience with Flex To Go Bulgaria was very disappointing.

My experience with Flex To Go who actually are the front desk of Wheego Bulgaria was very disappointing.

After returning the car without any issues, my €800 deposit was not returned within the timeframe communicated by the company. Multiple emails, calls, and WhatsApp messages were largely ignored, and no clear explanation was provided.

Only rent from this company if you are comfortable potentially chasing your deposit for weeks or months. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend them.

AVOID!

AVOID!! As another reviewer stated, “Felt more like a robbery than a car rental”. If I could give zero stars, I would. Knew from arrival at their office that it was going to be a nightmare. They shuttered my family and I out of the office as they were dealing with another disgruntled customer. We sat for 30 minutes before being ‘allowed in’ to book.

Then the card that I had booked with wasn’t adequate because it only had my initial on it and not full name, so that was another £45 per day. When eventually out at the car, the attendant made a big play about taking a video and ‘in particular the windscreen’ a number of times.

On our return, they proceeded to quickly find two pinhead sized marks on the window that even the most eagle eyed viewers could not have seen. Coincidence? Hmmm… Then the “I’m on your side” manager joined in and happily gets a quote of almost £2k to fix it. As an automotive engineer for 30 years, I love my cars and keep them in good condition - I also know it doesn’t cost that to fix something you can barely see!

Whatever scam or fraudulent activity they have going on, it was disgusting. From customers there at the same time, and having subsequently read online reviews, it’s plain to see I am not alone in thinking this.

THE WORST EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE WITH A…

THE WORST EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE WITH A RENTAL CAR COMPANY. First of all, when I went to pick up the car, they refused to accept my credit card, saying that it was from a “new bank”. My bank is CaixaBank, a well-known Spanish bank that has been around since 2011, but the guy at the office told me they considered it a “new bank”, so they couldn’t accept my card. Because of this, I had to pay an extra €210 just to get the car.

On the other hand, I checked with the rental companies next to Flex To Go, including Sixt, to see if they would accept my credit card for future rentals. They checked it and told me the card was perfectly fine and that they could use it for the deposit without any problem.

So basically, Flex To Go didn’t want to accept my card, for whatever reason, and I was the one who had to pay for it.

But hold on, because the adventure with them had only just started.

They gave us a Citroën C3 Aircross, and as soon as we had left Krakow, the car started displaying an engine/temperature warning. The temperature was getting extremely high, the car kept beeping and telling us to stop the vehicle immediately, and the A/C stopped working.

We called their roadside assistance hotline, expecting them to actually help us. Instead, they basically told us to stay there on the side of the road and wait for a tow truck that could take up to 3 hours to arrive. Obviously, that made absolutely no sense, so we called again. A different person then told us to return the car to the airport.

Not only did they put our safety at risk by giving us a car in that condition, but we also missed the wedding we were attending because of all the time we lost dealing with their broken car and having to return to the airport.

When we arrived, they gave us another car.

You would think that would be the end of it, right?

Nope.

Three days later, while we were on an excursion in a very rural area in the middle of Poland, the replacement car suddenly displayed an electrical error and the gearbox warning started flashing. We were unable to start the car. It was storming, we were basically in the middle of nowhere, and we had to stay there for approximately one hour until we were finally able to start the car again.

So, during the same rental, they managed to give us TWO cars with serious mechanical/electrical problems.

When you contact them by email, they tell you they will reply within 14 days. Seriously, lol.

After explaining the whole situation to them, I am still waiting for a proper resolution. Not only did I have to pay around €200 extra because they refused to accept my credit card, but they also put our safety at risk by giving us not one, but TWO cars that clearly had serious issues.

And on top of everything, I missed the wedding I had travelled to Poland for.

To sum it up, this company might be one of the cheapest options, and I guess you get what you pay for. But for anyone reading this review: do yourself a favour and use literally any other rental company.

Unless you want your holiday ruined by these pirates, stay away from Flex To Go.
