Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Evaluating 3,512 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Consumers frequently struggle with unhelpful customer support teams, automated systems that constantly fail, and massive difficulties reaching human assistance when problems arise. Buyers additionally experience receiving defective or poorly described items, alongside severely delayed shipping times and extremely complicated refund processes that leave them completely frustrated. However, some customers also noted that certain transactions went surprisingly smoothly, experiencing quick resolutions, helpful intervention during disputes, and successful purchases. Shoppers additionally mentioned that purchasing specific items can sometimes be a pleasant experience when everything goes according to plan without unexpected issues.

I ORDERED A GLASS JAR BACK IN JULY 2026 IT ARRIVED BROKEN. THE SELLER'S WEBSITE STATED IT DID NOT ACCEPT RETURNS. WHEN I SENT A PICTURE OF THE BROKEN ITEM TO THE SELLER THEY TOLD ME TO APPLY FOR A RETURN REQUEST & EBAY WILL REFUND MY MONEY. WHEN I ENTERED THE ITEM'S REFERENCE NUMBER IT WASN'T RECOGNISED. THE WHOLE EXPERIENCE HAS BEEN HORRENDOUS

This company gets worse and worse every year.

I have spent thousands throughout my life, but I'm just done. The quality of customer service or lack thereof is shocking, they really do not care anymore as long as profits roll in.

I will not be sad, one day, when Ebay no longer exists.

Literally taking part in illegal selling practices

I do not use ebay all the time, so I cannot say when this change occurred, but at some point in recent years ebay decided to make false advertising their entire strategy.

They implemented a system where only positive feedback is permanent for seller accounts and sellers can have negative feedback removed by submitting a form, which is not even read by a human to see if the request has merit, it gets sent to an automated bot who automatically approves it and removes the negative feedback.

So the entire company is intentionally engaging in illegal selling practices by not only condoning, but playing an active role in false advertising. A seller can sell 1,000 items, 990 of the orders have problems and receive negative feedback, but because they can have that all scrubbed, their profile will show "100% positive feedback" and people will be mislead into buying from them.

I will give one personal example.
I ordered 2 products from seller "kylu-51"
They marked the order as dispatched and provided a tracking number, 2 weeks past, no delivery and the tracking number showed no progress beyond label generation. I contacted them, they did not reply.
I then opened an ebay dispute for item not received in which I requested a refund. The seller ignored my refund request and 5 days after I opened the dispute finally sent the item, little over a month after I had paid and at a point in time where I no longer had use because I had already found an alternative source.

Naturally I left negative feedback, they lied about post, ignored communication attempts, dragged their feet with the dispute *and* ignored my dispute request for a refund. Within 2 days that feedback was scrubbed from their account and so to this day their account shows "99.9% positive feedback" with only 2 negative pieces of feedback, neither of mine and both of which surely will be redacted soon

I contacted the wrongly titled "customer support" department to ask for an explanation since it could not even be argued that my feedback violated any terms or guidelines, they didn't respond, they left the chat open and said nothing, refused to even engage and simply let the chat timeout so I was conveniently put to the back of the queue with an estimated wait time of 40 minutes to get the next person.

absolutely useless

absolutely useless, they cancelled one of my listings as I gave a website link to a courier company that would help encourage buyers to buy the item through ebay, as it is a bicycle, ebay wouldn't have a delivery service so I thought this would help, benefits me, the buyer and ebay but they cancelled my listing and I had to rewrite the listing from scratch, their support chatline was equally useless so I just wasted my time

What a dreadful customer service…

What a dreadful customer service company? Not alone was my parcel not delivered within the estimated timeframe, but eBay have continually extended the timeframe for delivery when it was obvious from the outset the it was lost as there was no tracking number to follow it up???
I’ve waited three weeks for notification of a refund but don’t know when I’ll actually get my money back…. No accountability either. Never shop with them again

eBay refused refund under buyer…

eBay refused refund under buyer protection as Evri say package delivered. I do not consider a parcel being left on your doorstep in full public view as delivered.
Apparently eBay and Evri consider this acceptable, so beware!!!
I will no longer buy anything from eBay if its shipped by Evri.

Gave them a second chance

Gave them a second chance after 2 months ago them sending me out date drugs deliberately, wrong amount and size. This was illegal and nothing done except a refund.
This time 2 weeks extra wait for 22-15035-85512 only to say sorry another refund.
Ebay are a waste of time not caring and giving illegal items.
Other next day delivery with prime, the way to go.

⭐ 1 STAR

⭐ 1 STAR — Extremely Disappointed

I have been a regular and loyal eBay customer for many years, but after what I experienced recently, I have completely lost trust in the platform.

This is not just about the refund issue, where I ended up losing money despite being the customer. What happened yesterday was even more concerning. I found the way the payment information was displayed extremely confusing and, in my opinion, potentially misleading. The total amount was displayed directly next to the Klarna option in a way that could easily cause customers to misunderstand what they were agreeing to or paying.

Payment information should be absolutely clear and transparent. Customers should never have to question whether the way an amount is displayed is designed to confuse them.

After years of being a customer, I never expected to feel this disappointed by eBay. The combination of the refund experience and the confusing payment presentation has seriously damaged my confidence in the company.

Unfortunately, I no longer feel comfortable using eBay and have decided to take my business elsewhere. A long-time customer should not be left feeling misled, financially disadvantaged, and ignored.

Very disappointing experience. I would not recommend eBay based on what I have experienced.

Extremely poor service from eBay

Extremely poor service from eBay. My listing was removed after a report from a company selling the same factory sourced product, yet eBay has not clearly explained which specific copyright or intellectual property right my generic, unbranded product allegedly infringes.

Despite the reporting party failing to respond, eBay continues to leave the matter unresolved and appears to assume that copyright applies without providing evidence or a proper explanation.

The lack of communication and failure to resolve the complaint has been extremely frustrating.

EBay don’t care if you get scammed.

I’ve informed EBay of a car advert that looks to me very dodgy. This is a £29k BMW i8 black 2019. I’ve run it through car vertical and the car does not exist. I’ve run it through the government website to check for tax and MOT and the car does not exist. I’m concerned that this is a fake advert. Looking at the eBayers other items for sale, there is an American hot rod car for sale. This hot rod is on a front garden of a terraced house. The BMW is in front of a triple garage, which seems very inconsistent with where the Ebayer lives. The Ebayer has not replied to my question. Are these photos of other people’s cars? EBay have looked into it using AI and determined that there is not issue. This EBay account was only created in August this year In that case, if I buy the BMW and it turns out to be fraud would Ebay refund me £29k? I don’t think so! I’m going to report this to the police.

Actually zero stars

Actually zero stars. I ordered an item that turned out to be in Portugal (hidden in the small print) and was emailed by Royal Mail with a large customs and handling charge. As I had already paid the Portuguese VAT, I wasn't happy to pay the UK one on top, so I instructed Royal Mail to return the item. RM then held on to the item for 7 weeks, which resulted in ebay giving my money to the seller, despite me never having seen it. The reason for my 1 star review is that I believe ebay use AI for their pretend customer service agents, so when you try and appeal you find yourself arguing with a bot, not a human. I have now deleted my account because conversing with bots is not my cuppa.

What has happened to eBay

What has happened to eBay. It's been going down hill for years but it's now reached a new low. You have to almost beg most sellers now to ship your items. I think most of the sellers now are just acting as a middle man and buying the goods from china and having it sent directly to the buyer. I can get stuff faster from AliExpress, cheaper and feel a lot safer dealing with them.

eBay’s fictional buyer protection

eBay’s buyer protection has proved completely worthless in my case.
I paid around £150 for an item that I never received. The courier marked it as delivered, but the delivery photo does not show my address, my house number, or even any identifiable location. I checked my property, spoke to neighbours, contacted the courier directly and provided eBay with evidence that the parcel could not be located and remained under investigation.
Despite all of that, eBay simply sided with the seller because the tracking status said “delivered”.
So apparently a courier can leave a parcel somewhere, take a photo of it, mark it as delivered, and that is enough for eBay to wash their hands of the matter. If that is their standard of proof, then their Money Back Guarantee offers very little meaningful protection at all.
I have been an eBay customer for years, but this experience has seriously damaged my trust in the platform. Buyer protection should actually protect buyers, not disappear the moment a tracking page says “delivered”.
