One of the worst internet providers…
One of the worst internet providers I’ve ever had to deal with — and I say that as someone who has worked with many of them over the last 10 years in my profession. I wasn’t even surprised when I later saw their reviews on Trustpilot — after my own experience, I fully believe all the negative ones are genuine.
My story started about a year ago. Just a few months into my contract, my internet connection completely stopped working due to an infrastructure issue. It happened during winter, and because of a major oil leak, I was told to wait for an update and possible fix in April.
In the meantime, Plusnet provided a mobile hotspot with an unlimited data SIM card, but since I live in the countryside, this setup was almost useless. I asked for a proper MiFi router, but they refused, so I had to sort one out myself — at my own cost.
Despite not receiving any proper service, I was still required to keep paying for the contract. When April came, there was still no fix, and even though I managed to pause payments for two months, they started charging me again with the usual promises that the issue was being worked on. I received automated emails with supposed “update dates,” but nothing ever changed.
Over the course of the year, I ended up paying around £600 for a service I never received. When the contract finally expired, I cancelled it and requested compensation, which they agreed to in principle — but I have still not received a single penny.
Even if I do eventually get my money back, I can honestly say Plusnet is the most unprofessional company I’ve ever dealt with. Their service is terrible, and their customer support is one of the worst I’ve ever encountered.
From what I’ve heard, Plusnet has already shut down some of their other services, and I sincerely hope they close their broadband division too — because they clearly don’t know how to run it properly.
My advice: stay away from Plusnet. All they will give you is disappointment and frustration. Even when the fault is entirely theirs, they refuse to help or take responsibility. Absolutely horrible experience.
Rubbish Company
Terrible company to deal with.
They constantly interfere with your service — slowing it down during the billing window. They even ended my contract a day early, leaving me unable to work from home. On top of that, they overcharged me in the final month before the contract ended.
Due to more incompetence, they closed my account before processing a £40 refund. Yesterday, I received an email about a new bill, but since I can no longer access my account online, I called to check. I was told it was an automated email generated during the rebilling process and that my refund should arrive in a few days.
This evening, I got another email — no greeting, not even formatted like their usual messages — saying I’d receive another email within 5–10 working days with a link to provide my bank details. If I don’t respond to that link, it could take an additional two weeks to receive a cheque instead. Concerned it might be fraudulent, I called again. Turns out, it was genuine, but they “can’t do anything” except follow their process.
If the situation were reversed and I’d been late paying them, they definitely wouldn’t have given me the same leniency.
Absolute bin-fire - liars
Lied to with regard to broadband and I hat Plusnet could actually do/offer. Moving to a rural property with poor connection - told by a Plusnet rep not to worry because the house is in a priority fibre area and they will contact Openreach to look at pushing for installation. Important as two of us work from home, but my mind was put at ease. Called to follow up and was told by someone else this was an outright lie - they can't supply us and they wouldn't reach out to Openreach like that. I'm sure we'll find a solution, but I just hate being lied to by companies like this.
Ditching their entire ISP webmail…
Ditching their entire ISP webmail service into a paid provider in November. Pay more, get less. Time to shop around.
Cannot understand what went wrong with…
Cannot understand what went wrong with the poor reviews. Call centre staff kind and helpful. Broadband changed over from existing supplier without me having to do anything. Very good website, easy to navigate. Broadband reaches parts the previous one didn’t even with extenders. Very happy with the installation
What a lovely company Plusnet
What a lovely company. My Barclay supervisor spoke to the customer services for me regarding my start up date, as needed to change from Switch as Three were going to charge me £390.58, despite me cancelling well within the cooling off period. The start date for Plusnet was two days after it ended.
Plusnet continued the date for me.
Start up went smoothly.
Internet connection on my PC is so fast now and my phone paired automatically for emails.
TV connection went well too.
Easy to change my payment date 5 days following the connection.
Two weeks later and I'm a very happy bunny with this company.
Thank you Plusnet
Would give 0 stars if I could
Would give 0 stars if I could. Left us without internet for weeks while trying to work from home, causing insane amounts of stress and loss of income - entirely due to an admin error on their part, not a physical fault. They could have turned it straight back on when told about their error, but they have refused to.
Could only provide us with a 4G dongle as a replacement, which has dreadful singal in our area (it's almost as if we NEED WiFi and Ethernet!). I could just be using my phone to tether at this point and it would be the same.
All because of a techincal error on their part, cutting off our service a few weeks before we're due to move. So, during an already very stressful time. Just because someone forgot to change a date on a form somewhere.
Would either provide "compensation" (a pittiful amount that does not even come close to the loss of earnings or stress incurred!) OR allow us to cancel our contract without the cancelation fee.
You heard me right, they're expecting us to PAY TO LEAVE this awful company!
And this is by no means the only time they've done this. A quick google shows them having done this to people for years, and offering wildly different solutions to each person.
Let me reiterate - this was an admin error, not a physical fault. They could have turned our service back on INSTANTLY but are REFUSING TO!

Poor customer service. The advisor was brisk and argumentative.
The best phone company for service.
I cannot understand all the negative comments here. I returned from holiday, having unplugged my router, to find I could not access the internet.
On contacting Plusnet by phone and texts I was led through a procedure that got me re-connected successfully.
Any contacts I have had with Plusnet have always been dealt with efficiently.
Their technical staff are excellent.
Trying to get installation is a…nightmare
Trying to get installation is a nightmare. Been waiting 3 months. Continually changing dates. Noone to speak to. Service once installed is meant to ge good but they have no idea how to handle the people that pay their wages
Horrible customer service
Connected us pretty quickly, but fixing issues is taking ages and no explanations given for why, engineers have missed 2 appointments already and we have no internet for over two weeks now.
Fantastic!
Recently took out broadband with these guys. Brilliant customer service!! The hub came really promptly and my service was due to be connected very quickly - had an issue getting connected (which was actually down to issues with the open reach cabling). Salik at Plusnet arranged an engineer to come out to us within a couple of days. He was pleasant, helpful, knowledgeable and personable.
I’m really impressed, and the speed we’ve now got is fantastic and we’re not full fibre.
Really great company 👍🏻

No complaints no worries great honest as it says on the tin.
Do not go near!
Absolute cowboys. They only let you speak to a ‘bot’ who can’t comprehend you and then give you a phone number that does not work!! 0121 1234567
Phone line often going down when neighbours around us have continued service. Do no touch
Refused Broadband, after being their customer for 5 years.
I'd been with Plusnet for 5 years, never a problem... until I decided to move home. I wanted to take them with me to my newly purchased house in Wales, I paid £24.99, had an appointment booked for the engineer, and then an email from them to say they couldn't supply my new house as it was 'once used as a holiday let' !!! I contacted (Vodafone Broadband) the current provider, who simply transferred the service over to me with no issue. I no longer recommend Plusnet.
I am a new customer of plusnet
I am a new customer of plusnet. From the get go. Great human quick access customer service ..Prompt delivery of broadband hub. Easy to set up plug into phone socket and go. Wi fi broadband speed is working perfect. £100 reward card delivered very quickly after service up and running . 5 stars 🌟

Thanks Plusnet for all your assistance in a difficult situation, especially to John and Manager Tony in Sheffield for resolving the issues I have had.

Waiting over a month for internet
We moved house and have been waiting over a month for our internet to be set-up. Plusnet have been telling me for the last 4 weeks that OpenReach will come out and it'll all be sorted, then it never happens. As a remote worker this has been super stressful. Now Openreach have sorted the issue and Plusnet have cancelled the order and said another 2 weeks. So disappointing and just bad management.
Awful company
Awful company, poor communication. Misleading letters and staff that don’t know their own process or SLA’s.
Signed up to Plusnet on the 14th of October - cancelled the same day as they couldn’t not get an open reach engineer until mid November. Funny that when I signed up with sky I had an engineer come out the next day.
I was told that a refund would processed immediately and would reach my account without 5 days. Also had a letter to confirm.
Just spoke to Plusnet and I’m being told it’s 10-15 days. Shambolic company, looks like I had a lucky escape not signing up with them. Heaven for bid if I had an emergency with my broadband. Stay clear of this company.
