Extremely disappointing experience with KLM (They lost my luggage)
Extremely disappointing experience with KLM.
My baggage was not delivered when I arrived in Valencia, and I spent my entire holiday (14–21 June) without my belongings. Instead of enjoying my trip, I had to constantly chase KLM and the airport for updates. KLM provided only incorrect information.
After submitting my claim, KLM provided only partial reimbursement for emergency receipts. They are also declining to cover anything regarding my permanently lost luggage. Even after multiple requests, getting a simple answer has been unnecessarily difficult.
Recommend to avoid this awful company. They don't care about their Customers at all.
Frauding Customers and not applying EU Law: Denied onboarding and given a voucher that cannot be collected/used. Customer Service is non-existent.
I was denied onboarding to overbooking at the gate (Airfrance/KLM). The staff gave me EUR250 refundable cash voucher with the instruction to go on KLM refunds website for a direct refund to bank account. However the website doesn't give you the option to collect the voucher and if you perform another request it gets denied. I contacted AirFrance customer service and they informed me I was paid so my request for advice on how to collect the voucher was denied. On KLM website there is not an option to collect the voucher too. So I have a voucher which I cannot use due to their overbooking which cause almost 24 hours delay for a short flight.
This is so, so bad.
I cannot recommend KLM or Air France…
I cannot recommend KLM or Air France based on my experience.
On 4 June 2026, I travelled on Flight KL592 from Johannesburg to Houston. When I arrived, I discovered that my checked baggage had been tampered with and several of my personal belongings were missing. I reported the incident immediately, obtained a police report, and submitted a baggage claim (Reference: C-11411675).
More than 55 days later, I am still waiting for a satisfactory resolution.
During this time, I have repeatedly contacted customer service, spent money making international calls from South Africa, submitted my banking details and supporting documentation multiple times, and continually followed up with no meaningful progress. I was informed that my payment had been rejected, yet no one has taken ownership of resolving the issue or explaining how it would be corrected.
The most disappointing part has been the lack of communication and accountability. Instead of proactively assisting a customer who experienced theft from their baggage, I have had to chase updates constantly. Calls have resulted in little or no assistance, emails have gone unanswered for long periods, and I have been left feeling ignored.
Based on my experience, the claims process has been frustrating, time-consuming, and exhausting. It has left me with the impression that customers are expected to keep chasing the airline for compensation rather than receiving timely support.
As a result, I have escalated my complaint to the appropriate regulatory authorities and continue to pursue a resolution.
If you are considering travelling with KLM or Air France, I encourage you to carefully consider how you would expect an airline to support you if something goes wrong with your baggage. My experience has left me with very little confidence that my claim would be handled promptly or effectively.
I sincerely hope no other passenger has to go through the same experience that I have endured over the past 55 days.
Chose a different airline
We flew via Amsterdam from Dublin to Rio and back the same way from Lima. Cramped seats and mediocre food. The only offering for drinks was red/white wine and Heineken. We asked could we buy alternatives and were told no. Our first and last time with KLM!

On the 14th July we took a flight to Brussels and than to Miami. What an amazing experience, the kids were welcomed into the cockpit, received gifts and the flight attendants were so nice and reassuring.
The first thing we thought once landing: what an amazing experience ! The crew as professional, patient and most of all so friendly. It was clear that they enjoyed their trip.
I flew Bucharest
I flew Bucharest - Amsterdam and everything was ok with boarding and the flight, but I would like to mention that the cream cheese sandwich smelled strange, you should have given us the option to buy food, for a 500 euro ticket the food offered is a bad joke, the toilet on the plane was very dirty, on the way back I had a lost luggage and the same tired sandwich, plus I bought a special ticket with cabin luggage included but you forced me to put it in the hold, others on the plane had cabin luggage, quality-price ratio you are a disaster, a low cost to avoid!
Terrible customer service
Terrible customer service. Was made to wait 1 hour to 1 hour and 30 minutes 3 times to re-activate my return flight. Was the worst customer service experience of my life.
I have never done long haul with KLM…
I have never done long haul with KLM only short haul so in respect to that, they're OK. Not amazing. My advice would be if you're going on a connecting flight via Schipol allow for plenty of time. Before you know it, your flight will be late, you'll land at Gate 4 and depart at gate 80 and will have to run the rest of the way.
Tried to book a flight to Amsterdam…
Tried to book a flight to Amsterdam including return. KLM website is completely junk! What a complete load of rubbish... Impossible to navigate.
Now booked with a different company...
Ignoring compensation claim
We booked a flight with a connection and shortly after KLM moved the first leg to the day before but left the 2nd leg on the original day.
They told us we’d have to pay our own accommodation but could try and claim it back. We submitted a claim over 2 months ago but their website is faulty and keeps saying we haven’t submitted our bank details when we have and have screenshots to prove it.
They’ve now closed our claim and it’s impossible to get through to someone. On the phone you’re just on a never ending queue, the online chat doesn’t work and the WhatsApp we keep getting messages saying someone will be in touch soon but they never do and when you chase it up they just send a new message asking what the problem is.
I doubt we’ll ever get our money and will never fly KLM again! Worst customer service ever!
Steady decline in the last 3 years
Steady decline in the last 3 years. Had several issues with them over the years, all usually related to luggage and booked extras not upheld. Tried their customer service; still waiting for a refund of 80 euros, as they made me repurchase my purchased seat three times. Also had to argue with them to allow me to keep my purchased carry-on luggage as a carry-on, and they like to drop this while standing in line for the gate. It's just super uncomfortable, dissapointing and overall a bad experience. I'm gonna wait out 2027 and see how EU laws play out in their fares and extra options (no fee for 2 carry-on pieces) and if they continue down this road, I guess I'll resign to using WizzAir and RyanAir. Inconvenient, but at least they don't false advertise themselves as pemium carriers. KLM isn't one either. Wish the company opted for transparency if they cannot uphold quality. If they stopped gaslighting their customers the very least, that'd be appreciated. A frank "we don't give a sh*t" is better, then whatever they are doing via customer service these days. Hope they stop exchanging quality for cost optimizing. I'd honestly not mind paying if the service was still excellent. Sad.
KLM thinks they act on behalf of immigration of the countries
KLM refused to let me board twice on the same trip. On 1 July at Singapore, ground staff refused my check-in to Denpasar, saying only that my passport had a "stain" and that Indonesian immigration would reject it. No written explanation, no alternative offered, luggage tags removed. I flew the same day with another airline — Indonesian immigration examined the exact same passport, issued my visa on arrival, and I cleared the automated biometric gates without any problem.
On the return leg, KLM did it again, same "stain" reasoning — this time refusing to fly me to Singapore, a country that had already admitted me on that same passport days earlier. Again, everything was verbal, by phone, with no document and no policy cited.
The same passport was accepted at every border KLM claimed would turn me away. Left with two blocked flights, we had to buy new tickets home to London. My losses come to roughly £2,900 once KLM's token refunds (a few pounds per ticket) are deducted.
What's compounded this is the complaints process. After the second flight I tried to escalate, and I've effectively been shut out from taking the claim further with them. Two reference numbers, no substantive resolution, and no written justification for either refusal.
I'm now pursuing this through cross-border consumer channels. If you've been denied boarding by KLM over a document issue, keep every receipt and insist on a written reason — I got neither at the time, and it's made holding them accountable far harder than it should be.
Poor customer service
Shockingly Poor Handling of Priority Luggage
KLM, This Is Not Good EnoughI recently flew Business Class with KLM from Manchester to Amsterdam, and the experience has left me genuinely disappointed. My priority-tagged luggage which should have been among the first delivered was instead the very last bag to appear, after an excessive wait. When it finally arrived, items were missing. Not once has KLM addressed the theft or the serious security concerns this raises. Instead, every response has been a copy‑and‑paste reference to the Montreal Convention, as though quoting regulations replaces accountability.I explained clearly that I do not have receipts because like most people, I don’t keep receipts for worn clothing, and one of the missing items was a gift. KLM’s repeated demands for receipts show a complete disconnect from how real passengers live. After all this, they offered a “gesture of goodwill” reimbursement, framed as though they’re doing me a favour rather than acknowledging their own mishandling. This tone is patronising and absolutely not what I expect from a premium airline. Honestly the customer care I received is something I’d expect from a budget carrier, not KLM. The lack of ownership, the avoidance of the theft issue, and the dismissive communication have left me with zero confidence in their baggage security or customer service. Buisness Class passengers deserve better. All passengers deserve better. KLM do better.😡
Awfull customer service when bags are lost by KlM
KLM are awful when you have a problem. They are very keen to sell you a flight. In fact their whole website is all about selling you flights. I am so disappointed by the awful service and lack of information when there is problem. They have lost my baggage, I am on a cycling holiday and all my kit has been lost. KLM are useless at resolving baggage claims. I will definitely avoid flying with klm. They used to be a great airline, what’s changed? , why are they so awful now?
I am writing this review to warn others…
I am writing this review to warn others about the absolute nightmare I experienced during my recent travel on June 27/2026 with KLM. This was my first time flying with them, travelling from Bristol to Amsterdam, and it will undoubtedly be my last.
The entire process was riddled with incompetence and a complete lack of customer care. Upon arriving at the airport for our first leg, there was absolutely no one available to assist with bag check-in or issuing boarding passes. We were left waiting until just one hour before boarding, at which point a massive, disorganized line finally formed.
Despite our best efforts to navigate the process, we were held up in an incredibly slow security line. When we finally reached the gate—arriving just one minute before the doors were officially closed—the staff refused to let us board. We explained our situation clearly, emphasizing that the delays were entirely due to the lack of ground staff and the airport’s own security bottleneck. Their response was cold, dismissive, and lacked any shred of empathy. We were told the pilot refused to open the doors, and that was that.
The fallout was even worse:
Zero Assistance: After being denied boarding, the customer service agent simply escorted us downstairs. Rather than helping us rebook or rectifying the situation, she handed us a phone number for the British customer service line—fully aware that we were international travellers without a British phone number to make such a call.
Financial Loss: Not only did they refuse to rebook us on the next flight, but they also refused to provide a full refund. They essentially kept our money while leaving us stranded.
Inconvenience: We were left abandoned in the airport for an entire day and night, forced to scramble and pay out of pocket to book last-minute flights with another airline just to reach our destination in Germany.
The level of service provided by KLM was disgraceful. They took no responsibility for the logistical failures that caused us to miss our flight and offered zero support when we were at our most vulnerable.
If you are planning a trip, save yourself the stress, the lost money, and the exhaustion. Do not book with KLM. Their disregard for passengers is truly staggering, and I will be avoiding this airline at all costs in the future.
My experience with KLM was extremely…
My experience with KLM was extremely disappointing and one of the worst travel experiences I have had. Our flight was significantly delayed, disrupting our travel plans and causing unnecessary stress.
To make matters worse, KLM lost our luggage. We arrived at our destination with none of our essential belongings and were forced to spend a considerable amount of money on clothes, toiletries, and other necessities while waiting for our bags. This unexpected expense should never have been necessary.
What made the situation even more frustrating was the poor communication and lack of urgency in resolving the issue. We received little useful information about where our luggage was or when it would be returned, leaving us feeling ignored and unsupported.
An international airline like KLM should be able to manage delays and baggage handling much more effectively. Instead, we experienced inconvenience, financial loss, and unnecessary stress throughout our trip.
I cannot recommend KLM based on this experience. I hope the airline takes customer service, baggage handling, and communication more seriously so that other travelers do not have to go through the same ordeal. Thank you!
I had the worst service with Klm
I had the worst service with Klm. 1. Stuck at security bc of under 14 year olds. 2. Very rude when missed flights bc of security . Could transfer us, made us pay extra £250 per seat. 3. Very rude to a 8 year old, who was a little mischevous 4. Didnt care we were late for flight, just said everyones late.
KLM can’t survive without their monopoly on some routes.
The only reason KLM is in business is the monopoly they have on some routes. The none existent customer service, the overpriced tickets, horrible selective pricing, horrific check-in experience (if you can’t automatically check in) make it a lost cause. It dawned onto me that the only “positive” experience I have with KLM is when I do not interact with their staff.
Horrible airline. I avoid it like the plague and only take it if there is really not other viable travel option.
Terrible
Terrible , terrible girl at check in at Edinburgh Airport . Rude doesn’t cover it .
Food is barely edible . Not a good airline at all .
