About us
Founded in 1919, the Baytown Refinery began operation in 1920 and the Chemical Plant started up in 1940. The complex is located on approximately 3,400 acres along the Houston Ship Channel, about 25 miles east of Houston. It is comprised of four manufacturing sites, including one in nearby Mont Belvieu, and a global technology center. Employing a workforce of approximately 7,000, the Baytown area sites are highly integrated which makes the plants and products more efficient. We are developing technologies to make cleaner fuels and are working together to operate more safely and reliably. When creativity and community partnerships come together, great things happen. 🚌✨ Yesterday, we celebrated the unveiling of the Barbers Hill ISD STEM Bus, a mobile Science, Technology, Engineering and Math lab designed to bring hands-on learning experiences to students. Fueled by the imagination and talent of students, this vision became reality through the collaboration of the Barbers Hill Education Foundation, Targa Resources, TRUX, and ExxonMobil. We were proud to support this project with a $50,000 contribution and can’t wait to see the impact it has, while joining students along the way through employee volunteer opportunities.

Tomorrow's leaders are shaped by the opportunities we create today. This past summer, ExxonMobil-supported STEM programs and camps engaged more than 1,600 students and educators across the country. Participants explored STEM through hands-on learning, career exploration, and workforce development opportunities. Working alongside academic and community partners, we're helping students discover a passion for STEM while equipping educators with resources they can bring back to their classrooms. We had a great evening at the Baytown Community Advisory Panel (CAP), where local business leaders, representatives from the City of Baytown, Harris County Office of Emergency Management, Lee College, and Baytown-area residents came together to learn about air quality from Houston Regional Monitoring and hear updates from area industry representatives. We're proud to participate in the Baytown CAP each month as part of our commitment to open dialogue and information sharing. These meetings provide a valuable opportunity to connect directly with our neighbors, answer questions, discuss topics important to the community, and share updates about our operations. Through meaningful conversations like these, the CAP helps strengthen relationships and foster transparency between industry and the communities we call home.

The second annual Barbers Hill ISD Summer Internship Program at our Mont Belvieu Plastics Plant has come to a close! This summer, four high-school interns gained hands-on experience across our operations, including supporting the Mechanical team with routine maintenance work and the laboratory with testing, data analysis, and continuous improvement efforts. Along the way, they also participated in volunteer efforts, reflecting our commitment to making a positive impact. As they wrap up with their final days with us, we're proud of all they've accomplished.

We're proud to announce a historic investment in STEM education. The ExxonMobil Foundation has awarded Goose Creek CISD a $180,000 grant-the largest contribution our company has ever provided to the district. The funding will support: 🔬 Enhanced science curriculum resources for 5th-grade students 📚 Improved science achievement and STAAR readiness 🚀 A districtwide STEM Night expected to engage more than students and family members By supporting science, technology, engineering and math learning today, we're helping inspire tomorrow's innovators and strengthening the future workforce pipeline in our community.
