As one of Canada’s busiest oil sand deposits, Imperial Oil’s Kearl site runs 24/7, producing 280,000 barrels per day.   The foundation in its new 354-foot (108-meter) tunnel needed to withstand traffic from the world’s largest autonomous haul trucks. The challenge was clear: install reinforcement efficiently while standing up to demanding weather conditions. Proxxima™ systems-based glass fiber reinforced polymer (Proxxima GFRP) rebar, manufactured by MST Rebar Inc., delivered the corrosion-resistant solution. The Proxxima GFRP rebar delivered structural performance, with handling and installation benefits due to its smaller size and lighter weight (36mm and 65lbs versus 45mm and 350lbs for traditional steel rebar). China’s composites market is evolving at lightning speed, and our presence at this year’s China Composites Expo (CCExpo) showed that we’re not just participating but pushing the boundaries of what’s possible with breakthrough technologies like Proxxima™ resin systems.    Highlights included presentations from Proxxima systems experts on next-generation composites and mobility solutions, as well as our EV battery housing demonstrator developed in collaboration with Fraunhofer ICT, which was shortlisted for the China Composite Expo Innovation Award. We continue to gain increased momentum for Proxxima™ solutions across subsea insulation applications, as we announce the first self-use deployment of our resin systems in subsea equipment for ExxonMobil’s Usan project in Nigeria. Proxxima thermal insulation featuring Goldilocks (GDLX™) technology by ODYSEA will be applied to seven subsea well jumpers supporting the infill well development. Our solution will play a crucial role in the asset operation, providing enhanced thermal performance, mechanical durability, corrosion resistance and support long-term flow assurance capability in some of the industry’s most challenging conditions. In industrial refinery environments, exposure to harsh elements is a given. Long-term corrosion protection is not. At ExxonMobil’s Antwerp, Belgium facility, a Proxxima™ systems-based Advanced Polymer Coatings, Inc. (APC)’s TriFLEX™ coating was applied to 350 meters of piping as part of a Vapor Recovery Unit (VRU) installation. The result: a single-layer application enabled teams to coat, dry and move the piping in one-day batches compared to a traditional three-coat system requiring a three-day drying cycle. Just as important, this technology fit seamlessly into existing work practices. Applicators Iris Industry Solutions achieved smooth atomization and uniform film build using standard spray equipment and ventilation, with no additional training required.
