Unhelpful Salesman at MG

Don’t bother with MG Shirley.
Visited them the other day, Salesman said “ not being rude but I’m just too busy to answer your questions “ News for you, you were rude.
Don’t worry I won’t be back!

Absolute piece of $#it! Buyer beware.

We rented this car for 3 weeks and drove 2600 kilometres around the UK. What a piece of $#it. Buyer beware! At best the driver-car interface is borderline dangerous. The car constantly provides you with distracting alerts telling you to “stop being distracted,” by its own messages. The connection between your chosen device and car is clunky and often so slow it is UNSAFE! You’d be better off with a paper map than using it’s navigation or an app like WAZE. The Crome trim on the steering wheel reflects blindingly in your eyes when the sun is high. The 360 degree parking assist is rubbish and often doesn’t work or stays on too long once you are clear and at speed. Not surprisingly it’s made in China. Everything it does through its internal technology is slow at best and often unsafe. I have never used as much bad language while driving any car in my 61 years. Absolute garbage.

Dash board design absolute rubbish

I just collected my new MG ZS last week after exchanging it for an MG 3 Hybrid. I needed more space. Dealers were fine and for the money the car is good. You can not complain for what I paid and what I get. I also took advantage of the MG Public Sector scheme, which I believe is called Affinity? My biggest gripe is, what the hell is going on with the dash board???? There is nothing I can do about it but I hate it. Why do I want to look at the car when I am driving that does nothing when on the screen. The most important element of the dash board, the speed, is tiny numbers on the left hand side. Surely the speed should be in the centre. I changed it to the regen gauge so that was in the centre but as soon as you use the cruise control it defaults back to the stupid picture of a car. I have a cross trainer at home and it looks like that. I want the speedo in front of me so it's clear to see, not hunt around the screen for it. I feel this is a total down side of the ZS and it will put me off buying another, it's tacky and has no purpose. Put the speedo in the centre of the screen, or the option of some nice digital dials that stay there and do not default to that stupid picture of a car. thanks

Avoid MG – Bricked my 2020 MG HS unit under warranty and demanded £1800!

I handed my 2020 MG HS to the dealer for a minor head unit issue covered under MG's 7-year warranty. It was sent away directly to MG for six weeks, only to be returned with far more faults than it started with.

The dealer’s technician stated that the wrong firmware was on the unit. MG then supplied a subsequent software update to try and fix the issue, but it completely failed to correct the damage.

Now, despite the unit failing while entirely in their custody for a warranty repair, MG is refusing to take responsibility. They are demanding £1,800 out of my pocket to replace the head unit that was ruined on their watch.

Appalling service and zero accountability from a major manufacturer. I trusted the MG brand, but I will never buy from them again. Avoid at all costs.

Trying to contact the service dept

Trying to contact the service dept in the Milton Keynes Garage, is truly frustrating. When you call the MK number you are diverted to a Call Centre. After ringing 3 X times and still no call back, when then realised we were going through to an AI Robot. Even when the service centre rung us and asked us to call back we could not contact them as ended again with the Robot 😡
However once we were at the garage the staff were good, it is getting through to them that is letting the company down.
We are pleased with our car and we were asked if we would consider an upgrade, yes I would have another but sorry the service is a shambles and until that is sorted we will not.

MG HS PHEV

MG HS PHEV, bought new Sept 2025, 2 alloy wheels paint delaminating, covered under warranty, took to dealership for inspection, extremely poor communication from both dealership and MG UK to resolve warranty issue, still awaiting repair. CARS 2 MG BARNSLEY SERVICE DEPT. not to mention extortionate service costs, over £300 for 1st service + over £600 for 2nd service, this wasn’t mentioned when I bought the car. Very disappointing after-sales.

Love the car though.

MG after sale service is awful!

I have actually been very happy with my MG ZS EV for more than three years. Until the problems started, I had a very positive experience with the car and had no particular reason to complain about either MG or the vehicle. It is therefore disappointing that my experience during the past year has changed my perception so significantly.

I fully appreciate that vehicles can develop complicated faults and that diagnosing electrical and electronic problems is not always straightforward. My concern is less about the fact that the car developed a fault and much more about how the matter has subsequently been handled.

I have found it increasingly difficult to communicate with Glyn Hopkin MG. On a number of occasions, I have contacted the dealership and either received no response or had to repeatedly chase for an answer. I have also experienced difficulties arranging appointments and obtaining meaningful updates regarding the progress of my vehicle.

What has been particularly disappointing is that the vehicle has been taken to Glyn Hopkin MG on several occasions, yet the underlying problems have remained unresolved. I understand that some faults can be difficult to diagnose, but I would have expected an authorised MG dealer to have the appropriate diagnostic equipment, technical expertise and access to manufacturer support to investigate a persistent problem properly and, where necessary, escalate it within MG.

Unfortunately, my experience has been one of repeated visits, repeated attempts to obtain information and considerable uncertainty about what was actually being done to identify the underlying problem.

MG IM5 Tyre headache

I purchased an MG IM5 at the end of June from Baylis in Gloucester.
I have no problem with the car until 21.8.2026 when the rear offside tyre failed I assume due to a puncture. That was the start of the nightmare. As it is an electric vehicle with no spare the car had to be recovered to home. The puncture repair kit was not an option.
Virtually no stock of the fitted tyre (Hankook ion evo 275/40 R19) in the country. What is available takes until 26.8.2026 to fit. Not helpful for any car let alone one that's only done 1400 miles.
I tried the supplying dealership but they do not keep any stock for the vehicle so were no help at all.
It begs the question why electric cars are sold with oddball tyres that are not available within a day or so. There is nothing for immediate fitting unless you put different makes on the same axle. But even then it's not quick due to the size. So be prepared for a headache and disruption.
A lovely car though.

Have a vehicle that is less then 2…

Have a vehicle that is less then 2 months old and has faults on it. The car is currently in Chinese writing which I don’t understand, so makes the dashboard redundant. Can’t connect phone, when you do connect phone god forbid that you receive or make a call as when you hang up the dash doesn’t registered it been hung up and despite pressing the long hold on the phone control on the steering wheel does absolutely nothing. Vehicle got stuck in neutral twice where I couldn’t physically get it out of it. Then the worse one being the front collision activates when nothing in front of you, cameras are clear and will emergency brake potentially causing an accident. MG assist can’t help as I’m not in an active breakdown. Speak to customer services to be told that there advise is not to drive the car until it’s been seen. Yet there next available appointment is the end of September or end of October! Am I suppose to pay for a car that will just sit there for two months. Not one of their dealers rings you back. CROYDON, EAST LONDON, ROMFORD, WATFORD. Dartford branch when I first called were unhelpful as I “didn’t buy the car from them” so what you’re an MG DEALER doesn’t matter where the car is sourced from. And the icing on the cake, when it goes to be diagnosed I have to pay £204 for them to do that and IF it’s covered by warranty I’ll get my money back, if not then I won’t. EH THE CAR IS SEVEN WEEKS OLD. I believe this comes under consumer act that it has to be fit for purpose. Seriously reconsider buying one of the MG cars and spend your money on a something better

Appalling customer service and…

Appalling customer service and outrageous charges for MG milton keyes
Reaching a real person is impossible because calls are routed to an automated AI system with no direct email or messaging support.
To make matters worse, the final invoice was higher than the original quotation I was given. They then charged me a £90 labor fee just to put my battery on charge—without even replacing it. Paying £90 just to plug in a battery is an absolute rip-off. Save your money and take your business elsewhere.

Broken steering column.

When the steering column broke, a common fault on the MG ZS the dealer was not helpful regarding a possible warranty claim, They said they would need to see the car. Then I could not get my car booked in for 3 months. I took my car to my local garage and got it repaired in a couple of days. At a cost if £150. Not worth putting the car off the road for 3 months waiting on a warranty decision by MG.

This is my second post on MG customer…

This is my second post on MG customer service, or in my case utter lack of it. Since 1st June since I notified MG that my drivers set lining and then leather had split, all they have done is fob me off, or ignored me altogether. Ever after asking it to be escalated to the Customer Service director. The same service"none", the gentleman called Hamas who answered my original quesry by his own admission has no car warranty experience, no technical knowledge but from two pictures said it seems to be wear and tear. Unbelievable, no idea what his is talking about. Got to be honest great car, absolutely crap after sales, so you take your chance with this brand, changing mine early next year, certainly will not be another MG. Do the right thing MG, get your customers on side.

The Worst Customer Experience I Have Ever Had.

In April 2026 I bought a 5 month old MG HS Plug-in Trophy. On the 28th May, a stone went through the gap at the bottom of grill and damaged the radiator. The first I knew of the radiator damage was when the car went in to limp-mode. I called a well known rescue service, of which I am a member. They came but could not fix the problem. They towed my car 20 miles to MG Listers in Northampton. I did not know you cannot tow any electric car on its drive wheels. But I would have expected the rescue company to know. Result, it damaged the Electric Drive Unit EDU. Total estimated cost of repair £11,500. Of which the majority of that cost has been accepted by the rescue organisation. The real problem now is the MG franchise dealership, Listers, say they cannot get the parts and have no ETA of when those parts will arrive. It has been 10 weeks that I have been without the MG, I have been forced to buy another car (Suzuki) the village I live in has no public transport. If MG ever get round to supplying the parts to their franchised dealership, I will sell the car immediately. How can they treat any customer like that and I am 80 years of age?

This beggars belief, since the above review, I was informed today (17/08/26) that the EDU which was quoted, has now been discontinued. This unit was £8500, as part of the overall cost of £11,500. Now the new EDU has been increased by £6000. Making the overall quotation at £17.500. They treat customers with total contempt.

Please read before purchasing!!

If anyone has decided to come and read these reviews before purchasing an MG HS Trophy, please do not buy it!

I had a 74 plate MG HS Trophy for 8 months before I decided to get rid of it a few days ago.

It was by far the worst car I have ever owned. Prior to the MG I had a 22 plate Hyundai Tucson which was amazing, but it was a lease car and I sadly had to hand it back at the end of last year. I should have stuck to the same car, but financially the MG was the cheaper option (there is a reason, they're rubbish).

The infotainment screen would freeze, or the screen would go black and show nothing. If I was using the navigation system it would freeze and take 15 mins to catch up to where I was on the roads. Not ideal when you are relying on the navigation to guide you places.

The wired connection for Android Auto/Apple Car Play was shocking, and would disconnect all the time. In the end I had to buy a phone holder and just use Waze on my phone, that way I knew it would stay connected and not show me as still 15 miles further back on the motorway.

The driver fatigue and distraction monitoring is beyond a joke. You have to use the infotainment to control everything, but if you try and turn on the AC or adjust the heating temp/fan controls, it keeps beeping at you to focus on driving!!! If you yawn, you get beeped at to not drive when fatigued. If you wear sunglasses, it keeps beeping at you to focus on driving 🤣🤣

The car would also not detect the key fob a lot of the times. If I got petrol and had someone in the car with me, I would turn the car off and leave the fob in the car when I got out to fill up (pay at pump). The horn would then keep going off to say I left the key in the car, not just once but multiple times. And sometimes when locking the car the horn would go off for no reason, or the car would not lock until a few attempts.

The sunvisor wouldn't stay in position close to the face, and kept moving backwards towards the windscreen. Useless when you need to adjust it to block the sunlight at an angle.

The electric windows were terrible. Not smooth, and if you tried to just lower it a fraction it was impossible. It was either fully open, half open or shut. If you tried to adjust it you would be there forever trying to get it to the position you wanted it open at.

I used to always get condensation in the headlights during winter. And in one particular spot in the middle of the windscreen there was always condensation which took forever to clear in the winter.

Sometimes when reversing, the car would make a clunking loud noise. And on the motorway, there would be an incredibly loud whistling noise coming somewhere from the dash if it was windy outside.

The automatic gears were not smooth, and if you put your foot down to gain speed, they sounded like they were struggling with it.

The emergency brakes would also go off if the car thought you were too close to a parked car along any roads. Nightmare when you're driving down a residential street with cars parked up either side, doing 20mph and suddenly your car brakes for no reason. Sometimes it would randomly engage the emergency brakes on roundabouts too.

And who knows how you access cruise control. Apparently it is in the infotainment centre and you have to set it to a star access on the steering wheel? I never bothered trying to figure that out. It shouldn't be that difficult to use cruise control!!

I think there are more things, but those are the main ones.

I now have a brand new Seat Ibiza FR, and I cannot tell you how happy I am that I can use wireless car play, and turn off the speed limit warning by the touch of a button on my steering wheel.

Seriously think before you buy an MG

I think it’s wrong that I have had to leave 1 Star if I had my way it would be minus 100 stars.
MG sold me a car with a Seven year warranty. The warranty is not worth the paper it’s written on.
The radio infotainment system has gone wrong it says radio initialising but it doesn’t, but it does drain the battery 2 batteries down £300 cost took it to MG Main dealer charged me £150 to tell me what I already knew as it’s all over YouTube and the MG Forums. They now want another £500 for a new module. This is Not a serviceable part it doesn’t come under the service criteria, MG saying that it only covers electronics for Three years Not the Seven years the sell you.
Waited one hour thirty minutes calling customer services Never picked up! Called another number head office in Marylebone spoke to a customer service agent, I asked to speak to the managing director they were too afraid to speak to me! Asked to speak to a manager was told there were no managers I pressed it and was then told I couldn’t speak to a manager so I pressed it as the customer service agent had Lied.
The moral of this DO NOT BUY AN MG, DO NOT BUY AN MG, DO NOT BUY AN MG,
