Be it known that I, AUGUST FLASKAMP, a subject of the Emperor' of Germany, and a resident of Crefeld, Germany, have invented oertain new and useful Improvements in Boxes, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

The invention relates to boxes for containing and displaying scarfs, neckties, and various other articles and for holding the articles either directly on supports or posts in the boxes or between partitions therein.

The object of the invention is to provide certain new and useful improvements in boxes whereby the individual supports for the articles or the supports for the partitions are simply constructed and securely fastened in position in the bottom of the box.

The invention consists of novel features and parts and combinations of the same, as will be fully described hereinafter and then pointed out in the claims.

A practical embodiment of theinvention is represented in the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.

The improved device illustrated in Figs. l, 2, 3, and 4 consists, essentially, of a support in the form of a post A, preferably made of sheet metal and hollow, with integral flanges A at the lower end, engaged on the top by a retaining-plate B, having a central aperture B, through which extends the post A. The retaining-plate B is preferably in the form of adisk and is formed with prongs B2, arranged in sets, each set being formed in a circle or directly struck up out of the middle of the retaining-plate, so that the openings left by the struck-up prongs are circular, as is plainly indicated in Fig. l, to heighten theappearance of the device when applied to the box C.

In order to fasten a plurality of the devices described in the box C, a suitable machine is provided, which forces the retaining-plates down into the pasteboard or other soft material of which the box-bottom is made, as is plainly indicated in Fig. 3, to securely hold the {iange A of each support in position between the box-bottom and the retaining-plate and to securely hold the post A in position. The machine used for the purpose mentioned applies sufficient pressure on the retainingplate B to force the prongs B2 thereof into the material of the box-bottom, as described, and at the same time presses the flanges Ainto the material to increase the stability of the posts. i

As shown in Fig. 5, apostA2 has flanges A3, engaged bya retaining-plate B3, formed atits outer edge with prongs B4, forced into the bottom of the box Cto hold the post securely in position. As shown in Figs. 6, 7, and 8, the box C is provided with partitions D, held in U-shaped posts A4, formed at their lower ends with anges A5, engaged by a retainingplate B5, having prongs B6, similar' to the prongs B2 or the prongs B4, to fasten the retaining-plate in position on the bottom of the box C and hold the post A4 in positionin the box, the partition D extending between the side members of the post, as is plainly indicated in the drawings. It is understood that two or more such individual devices as described are employed for holding a single partition D in place, the posts A2 boing for the purpose in proper alinement, as will be readily understood by reference to Fig. 6.

From the foregoing it is evident that the posts are securely held in placein the box at the desired points without the use of glue, cement, or the like, and at the same time the device is very strong and durable and gives a very neat appearance to the box.

Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secureby Letters Patentl. A box or like receptacle having a support comprising a post having an integral laterally-projectingtlange at its lower end form- IOO Ving a base to engage the bottom of the box,

and an independent retaining-plate having an opening through which the body of the post extends, the said retaining-plate engaging the flange of the post and provided with a series of prongs arranged to be forced into the material of the box-bottom to hold the plate in engagement with the flange of the post and secure the post in position in the box, as set forth.

2. The combination with a box or like receptacle, of a plurality of su pporting-posts arranged in said box in alined pairs, and each having a hanged lower end forming a base for the post, independent retaining-plates for said posts, and partitions extending through openings in said posts and held in position thereby, as set forth.

3. A box or like receptacle having a plurality of supporting-posts formed at their lower ends with flanges, a retaining-plate for each of said posts and having an opening through which the post extends, the said retaining-plates having prongs adapted to penetrate into the material of the bottom of the receptacle, and partitions extending between alined supporting-posts and held by the same, as set forth.

4. A box or like receptacle having a support arranged therein and Hanged at its lower end to form a laterally-projecting base for the support, and a retaining-plate in disk form having a central aperture through which the body of the support extends, the retaining-plate engaging the flange of the support and having sets of prongs arranged in circles to engage the material ot' the box to hold the support in position, as set forth.

5. A box or like receptacle provided with a pluralityof posts formedof sheet metal and each having a plurality of' laterally-projecting flanges at its lower end to form a base to engage the bottom of the box, and a retainingplate for each post having an opening through which the body of the post extends, the said plate resting on the flanges of the post and having a series of sets of prongs arranged to be forced into the material of the bottom of the box, each set of prongs being arranged in acircle, the anges of the post being adapted to be pressed into the surface of the boxbottom when the retaining-plate is secured in position, as set forth.
