THE NORRIS PETERS ca. PHOTO'LITHOH WASHINGTON, D. C.
GEORGE BOLLINGER, JR, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO.
DECORATIVE DEVICE.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, Gnonen Bonnr tenn, J11, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Decorative Devices, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in decorative devices and has for its object-to provide a device to be used for supporting flags used for decorative purposes.
Another object of the invention is to provide a flag display stand so formed that it may be used in a plurality of ways.
With the above and other objects in view which will be more fully explained in the following specification, have invented the device illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 illustrates a top plan view of a flag display stand, Fig. 2 is a sectional view taken on line AEi of Fig. 1, Fig. 3 is an elevational view of one member of the stand, Fig. 4; is an end view thereof, Fig. 5 is an elevational view of another member of the device.
Like reference characters indicate like parts throughout the specification and in the several views in the drawings in which- 1 indicates a flag display stand consisting of members 2 and 3, the member 3 has a pair of opposing inclined surfaces t and 5 and a horizontal surface 6 in which sockets 7 and 8 are provided to receive the ends or flag staffs to be held by the device. The member 3 is provided with a central cut-away por tion 9 whereby it may straddle the member 52. The member 9 is also provided with a cut-away portion 10 in which said member 3 is adapted to seat and whereby the members 2 and 8 may be held rigidly connected. The i -ember 2 is provided'with a pair of inclined surfaces 11 and 12 in which are sockets 13 and 1a to receive flag stafls. The members 2 and 3 are both provided with cutaway portions 15 at inclined surfaces 16 to receive the thumb or other similar screws 17 by means of which the device may be secured to a wall or base.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed. August 10, 1912.
Patented July 1d, 1914:.
Serial No. 714,479.
The member 8 has its lower edge formed with an inclined surface 18 whereby said member may be used independently of the member 2 the inclined surface being placed against and secured to a vertical wall, whereby said member may e used as a wall displaying means. Both of the members 2 and 3 may be used independently of one another or used in conjunction with one another and when used in conjunction with one another as shown in Fig. 1 a pyramid of flags may be formed by mounting flags in the various sockets in said members.
These simple devices are made preferably from wood and are very inexpensive to manufacture, yet are so constructed that very effective decorative results may be attained from the use thereof, as they may be arranged in a variety of ways for dis playing flags.
However that which I claim to be new and desire to procure by Letters Patent is:
A device of the character described comprising two members, each of said members being composed of a relatively narrow block having a bottom flat surface, each of said blocks consisting of an upper reduced flat extremity arranged parallel to said flat bottom surface, of oppositely and downwardly inclined edges leading from said reduced ed 'e, said blocks being each formed between said inclined edges and said flat bottoms with transverse aliniiig ti-shaped notches, one of said members being formed with an undercut rectangular recess disposed at a median line at its bottom the other of said members being formed with a rectangular recess at a median line at its upper end whereby the first member may set flush upon said second member at right angles thereto, each of said members being formed with oppositely-inclined pole sockets opening out of its inclined edges.
In testimony whereof I aiiiX my signature in presence of two witnesses.
