SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 568,910, dated October 6, 1896.

Beit known that I, N ATHANIEL KNowLns, a citizen of the United States, residing in the cit-y and county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Adjustable Partitions for Boxes, Shelving, dac., which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings.

My invention relates to improvements in adjustable partitions for boxes, drawers, shelving, and similar articles, and has forits object the construction of a simple and effective device which is economically manufactured, readily7 secured in position, and can be removed at will, means being provided for effectively supporting each partition with respect to its neighbor and for readily shifting or rearranging the relative positions of the partitions to each other.

It consists of novel details of construction, all as will be hereinafter fully set forth, and specifically pointed out in the claims.

Figure l represents a perspective view of a series of adjustable partitions embodying my invention, showing the means for supporting and connecting the same. Fig. 2 represents a perspective view of a single partition in detached position and a staple which is employed for holding the contiguous partitions in position. Fig. 3 represents, on an enlarged scale, a perspective view of the top of a partition. Fig. 4 represents a section on line :c x, Fig. 2. Fig. 5 representsa plan view ot a box or drawer with a series of partitions placed in position.- Figs. 6 and 7 represent perspective views of diiferent manners of assembling the partitions.

Referring to the drawings, A designates a partition, the same consisting of the upright body portion B, which maybe made of metal or other suitable material, and has on its upper extremities the eyes C, into which the limbs of the staples D are inserted when the parts are assembled.

the pin or stud G, as will be evident from Fig. 4, whereby said pin may be readily held in position, it being of course evident that, if desired, a portion of the feet E might be punched out and deiected downwardly, so as to serve a similar function as the pin G.

H designates a drawer, box, or shelving having a bottom K upon which a series J of partitions B are placed, it being evident from Fig. 5 that the same may be placed in any desired position and that they can be readily disconnected and shifted, as may be desired.

In Fig. 6 is shown a modified manner of arranging the partitions relative to each other.

The operation is as follows: IVhen it is desired to assemble the partitions, the pins or studs G are forced into the bottom of the box or drawer, thereby causing the body portion B to stand upright. ing been placed in proximity thereto, as indicated in Figs. l, 5, and 6, the staples D can be readily inserted in the eyes C, and the partitions thus held in the desired position, and when it is desired to rearrange or shift the same for any reason it is only necessary to remove the staples and change the partitions to the desired position. In Fig. 7 is shown the manner of arranging the partitions in a space in which said partitions are to be placed if the same is too small for two partitions placed end to end, it being noticed that the end of one partition will be at or near the center of 'the other, that the staples I) can be thrown over the top in a similar manner as in Fig. 6, and that by having the feet E partly on one side and partly on the other the arrangement of the parts thus described is permitted.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is'- l. In a device of the character described, a partition. consisting'of a suitable body portion, and laterally-extending feet projecting from either side thereof, eyes on said partition, and staples which are adapted to be inserted in said eyes, substantially as described.

4. In an adjustable partition, a suitable body portion, laterally-extending feet, means on said feet for attaching said device to the structure to be partitioned, eyes on said partition, and means for supporting the partition with respect to the adjacent one, substantially as described.
