HENRIETTA E. ROOT, OF SAN PEDRO, CALIFORNIA.
NURSERY-TABLE.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, IIENRIETTA E. Roo'r, a citizen of the United States, residing at San Pedro, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Nursery-Tables, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a nursery table, and the object of the invention is to provide a device of this class having its top formed with an opening and an adjustable chair positioned below the said opening, the infant adapted to be seated within the said chair and to have its head and arms projecting above the chair to insure a free movement of the infants arms so that it may play with the toys placed upon the top of the table without danger of causing the toys to fall upon the-floor, the device being also arranged to provide for the comfort of the infant and adapted to afford the said infant a perfect rest.
WVith the above and other objects in view which will appear as the description progresses, the invention resides in the novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a nursery table con structed in accordance with the present invention, the lid or closure for the opening being raised. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of the same, the lid being shown in the closed position.
In the accompanying drawings, the numeral 1 designates the table. This table 1 may be of any desired or preferred formation and in the device illustrated in the drawings the said table is shown as a rectangular member comprising four legs 2 which are adapted to support the rectangular top 3. The legs 2 are, of course, connected adjacent their upper portionls wi th the usual side and end boards and the to 8 is formed with a centrally arranged cut away portion 4:. This cut away portion in the device illustrated, is shown as circular, but it is to be understood that the sha e of the said opening may be made in di erent designs, if desired.
The material provided by the circular slit or cut away portion may be employed to provide the lid 5 for the said opening. The lid 5 is hingedly connected with the top 3 as designated by the numeral 6, and the said lid is adapted to snugly engage the walls of Specification of Letters Patent.

the top provided by the cutaway portion so as to provide an even surface and whereby the table 1 may be employed for usages other than that of a nursery device.
Positioneddirectly below the opening 4L, and having its sides and ends spaced a suit ably distance therefrom, is a substantially rectangular housing 7 having its walls 7 inwardly inclined. The said walls 7 being provided at their upper edges with a laterally extending flange 8. Positioned upon the lower wall or floor of the housing is a standard 9. This standard is preferably hollow and is arranged approximately central of the opening 4. The standard in the device illustrated is provided with a suitable transversely arranged opening and this opening is adapted to aline with any of a plurality of openings 10 formed upon a sleeve 12. This sleeve 12 has its upper portion formed with a chair seat 13, the same being adapted to support the infant when the device is employed as a nursery table. The said chair seat 13 is eccentrically disposed with rela tion to the opening 4; in the top of the table whereby a relatively large foot receiving opening is formed between the front of the chair and the top of the table to facilitate the adjustment of the feet of the child when placing it in the chair or removing it therefrom and thereby positively preventing the accidental catching of the feet against the chair or against the top of the table.
The numeral 14 designates a securing pin, which is adapted to be inserted through the registering openings of the sleeve and standard so as to sustain the chair seat 13 in proper relation with the top of the table 1.
The housing 7 is formed with a suitable opening 15 arranged adjacent one of its end walls and this opening is normally closed through the medium of a hinged door 16. The purpose of the opening 15 and door 16 is to provide means whereby access to the interior of the housing may be obtained without the necessity of inserting-the hand through the opening 4, and the toys used by the infant occupying the chair may be deposited within the said opening in the housing when the infant is removed from the chair. The opening 15 provides an access to the housing 7 whereby the chair 13 may be readily adjusted.
Having thus fully described the invention, what I claim as new, is:
A table complete in itself for use as such formed with an opening in its top, a closure for said opening hinged to the table and adapted when in closing position to .lie in the same plane with the table top to form a complete and uninterrupted surface, a housing secured to the underside of the table top and wholly beyond the edges of the opening therein, said housing completely inclosing the space below the opening and being formed with a door-closed opening in one side wall thereof, a chair adjustably secured to the bottom wall of the housing and disposed within the same, said chair being approximately alined with the openings,
and a cover section for the table opening 15 being hinged to the table top in a manner to provide a back for the chan: Within the housing when said closure 1s 1n elevated position.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature 2G Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the G'omihissionr of Patents,
