UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN A. COOK, 0F MARINETTE, WISCONSIN.
HOLDER ron rox-ran'rrrrolvs.
1 0 e66 whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JOHN A. Coon, a citizen or the United fitates, residing at lvlarrnette, in the county of lvlarinette, btate of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful improvements in holders for l oxdartitions; and 1 do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the characters or rererence marked thereon, which form a Pttl't or this specification.
'1'his invention relates to' a partition holder and support especially designed for holding partitions in boxes in which bottles are placed for delivery, storage or snipment.
The invention consists in the device hereinafter more fully described and pointed out in the claim.
The object of the invention is to provide simple and eliicient means for holding and supporting the partitions in beer cases, and in other boxes having partitions in which bottles, glasses, etc, are placed; the arrangement being such as to securely retain the partitions in place and support them above the bottom of the box, provision being made for enabling broken partitions to be readily removed from the box and new partitions quickly and easily secured therein in place of the partitions removed.
The above object is attained by the device illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure l is a perspective view of a shipping or packing box with partitions therein, showing the application of my invention in-holding said partitions in place. Fig. 2 is a transverse section through the box and partitions, as on line 22 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a similar section at right angles to Fig. 2, as on line 33 of Fig. 1. Fig. 4: is a perspective view of the out blank from which the holder is made, showing said blank before it is formed into shape. Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the holder formed from the blank shown in Fig. 4.
Referring to the characters of reference, 1 designates a box of any suitable structure provided with partitions 2 of the usual form which serve to divide the box into a plurality of rectangular compartments or di- Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Sept, 3, 1912;

: visions in which bottles may be placed for delivery or shipment. To retain said partitions in place,l'einploy holders which are preferably stamped IIOIIJ. sheet metal of the requisite gage and which comprisea plate 5 having an integral tongue e extending at right angles from one margin thereof, said tongue being provided with parallel side flanges 5 formed integrally therewith and extending from the edges thereof. he plate 3 is pierced near the center, as shown at 6, to enable the passing of a nail, or other fastening device, therethrough. The tongue 4: and its flanges 5 form a channeled embracing member which receives the edge of the partitions.
In employing this improved holder for supporting and securing partitions in boxes, there are preferably two sets used, comprising a lower set and an upper set The holders of the lower set are inverted or so disposed as to cause their flanged tongues to extend upwardly with the outer faces of the plates 3 against the sides or ends of the box, in which position said holders are se cured by passing nails 7 or other fastening means, through the apertures 6 in said plates into the sides or ends of the box. The height of the plates is such that when in position, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3, the partitions whose lower edges are received in the channeled tongues of the holders, will be supported such distance above the bottom of the box as to facilitate cleaning. The holders of the upper set are disposed with their flanged tongues depending so as to embrace the upper edges of the partitions 2, and are secured to the ends or sides of the box by the fastening nails 7, or analogous devices, which are driven through the apertures 6 in the plates of said holders into the ends or sides of the box. By this arrangement the partitions are suspended above the bottom of the box and are securely supported at their lower and upper edges in a manner to firmly retain them in place. Should the partitions become broken, they may be removed by withdrawing the fastening means for the upper set of holders, when new partitions may be placed in the box torest upon the lower set of holders which remain undisturbed; the upper set of holders may then be replaced in position and again secured to the ends or sides of the box.
