Polar offboarded my organizatAccount closed overnight, full balance frozen before my first payoution with…

Polar offboarded my organization with immediate effect, disabling payments and renewals, citing a category-wide policy change on AI image and video generation. My interior design generator had been reviewed and approved by Polar before and had been selling through Polar for months.

The last and largest payment was a 6-month subscription to my separate language-learning SaaS platform: textbooks, lessons and learning games. That is not image or video generation. Still, Polar froze the entire balance for 120 days, and the funds may be reduced by "liabilities and fees".

I never received a single payout from Polar. Payment providers have to manage risk, but shutting a merchant down overnight and holding 100% of the balance, including payments for an unrelated product, is not a fair way to treat small businesses. If you use Polar, keep a second payment provider ready.

STOP using polar.

My experience with Polar.sh has been extremely disappointing. They approved my organization, allowed me to accept payments, then offboarded my business without giving me the chance to demonstrate my product, despite repeatedly offering test access.

Now they're holding my funds for 120 days.

This kind of decision can seriously damage or even destroy a small business. Why approve businesses before properly verifying their setup, then cut them off after they've started receiving payments?

SaaS founders, think carefully before relying on Polar for your business.

We had an okay experience integrating…

We had an okay experience integrating Polar, their dashboard works well and the APIs are pretty good. We are a product that is available worldwide and Polar's coverage for local payment methods is pretty limited, and these are essential for a consumer product in Europe and LatAm for instance. Paddel is much more mature in that aspect. Another thing that was a bit of a let down was their customer support. We had initially applied for their startup program, and had to check via email over the course of four month 6 times. The response every single time was: we've had a lot of requests, but you should hear back next week. Finally, after 4 months and us already having integrated and shifted some of our checkouts to Polar, we received the message that we're not a fit for their startup program. It's a bit of an odd experience having no follow up at all, and also quite frankly the only startup program we have ever been refused on, and there was no real explanation as to why they thought we're not a great fit for it either, it was all very vague.

It was going great with polar integrated to our site but until today they started to restrict merchant that deals with AI generation like image and video despite maintaining all sorts of compliance.

Polar acts highly unprofessional

We chose Polar as our Merchant of Record for ManyPI and went through their review and manual approval process before going live. We built our billing around Polar and have been running with active, paying customers and recurring subscriptions.

Out of the blue, we received an email saying our business no longer fits their Acceptable Use Policy and that new payments and subscription renewals will be disabled.

Their behaviour can literally kill your business.

A Costly Lesson"Read the Reviews Before Integrating"

I really wish I had read the Trustpilot reviews before using this service. It could have saved our startup a lot of time and loss.
We contacted them for payment integration just days before our product launch. We spent significant time connecting and testing our backend, setting up their keys, completing verification, and testing different products in sandbox and live environments. Everything appeared to work, and we were never clearly told that our AI product would ultimately not be supported.
They allowed us for every single testing and etc...
After all that time and effort, our request was simply rejected because our product wasn’t allowed.
I’m not saying their policy is wrong.....they have every right to decide what products they support. But.. the process is the problem. If a product is not eligible, this should be identified and They should have made this clear at the very beginning , when a user first creates an organization and submits their product details or completes the initial setup.... not after customers have already spent days integrating and testing.
A simple early safeguard could save businesses from wasting days of development time and prevent unnecessary frustration. I’m genuinely disappointed with how this was handled, and I hope future users read the reviews carefully before investing their time in the integration.

Do not use Polar.sh

Initially it was great, quick approval and nice interface.
After 1 month of use, they decided to ban AI products, hold thousands of my money in the account with no payouts for 180 days, and immediately block all new & existing subscriptions/payments without any warning!

I will shout from the rooftops that this company is the worst and plead with anyone I know that needs a payment provider to avoid this scam

They are a dangerously poor service…

They are a dangerously poor service .payment-related features are not always clear or readily available. When you are trying to launch and monetize a product, uncertainty around payments and account availability can become a major blocker.

I think Polar has a lot of potential, but the onboarding, communication, and availability of payment features need significant improvement. I would currently hesitate to recommend it to someone who needs a reliable payment platform for their business.

Unreliably abrupt decisions without much support

Our business was initially approved. After using it for about 2 weeks, and creating payment checkout links (something that is basically offered as a feature on their platform) and ONE payment being made, our organization got immediately off-boarded without any prior warning or notice.

Account closed without explanation

Very disappointing and unreliable service

My experience with Polar was very disappointing. My account was approved at first, and everything seemed fine. Then, after about one week, the account was suddenly closed without any clear reason or proper explanation.

There was no transparent communication, no real support, and no valid explanation for why this happened. For a company that handles payments and business accounts, this kind of behavior feels very unprofessional and unreliable.

I expected better service, clearer communication, and fair treatment. Unfortunately, based on my experience, I cannot recommend this company.

Private emails forwarded to third parties without consent

I contacted Polar to ask a simple question. My emails were forwarded twice to a third-party supplier — without my knowledge or consent — including after I explicitly flagged this as a breach of confidentiality. No apology, no acknowledgment. The question itself was never answered. Unprofessional handling of private business correspondence.

Worth noting: the only positive reviews here appear to come from Polar's own team members. The rest speak for themselves. Avoid.
