Disturbing message, and no reply to query.

Funds are delivered, in cash USD, to a Cuban home. The fee is very reasonable while the time-frame is acceptable.

Two minor issues. Firstly, their marketing messages are not clear but give the impression that your transfer has not been made correctly. Secondly, when you then use the contact facility to find out what is wrong in order to correct the problem, you will not get a same-day reply.

Tickets never arrive

The main problem is that tickets and links do not turn up to my Yahoo email address. And of course there is no contact address and zero customer support. (This happened many times over several years, until I gave up trying.)

As an event promoter, I note that fees are excessive, with Eventbrite even taking a cut out of optional donations that our supporters choose to make after paying for tickets.

Dreadful sales experience

A dreadful sales experience (to be fair, I have not made a claim, so this insurance might turn out to be excellent).

I tried to buy online, but the button to be allowed a longer trip on my annual policy was greyed out. I sought assistance by messaging, but they just told me to telephone them. So I asked by telephone what the problem was, and the guy insisted on going through the entire proposal form, all over again, which took forever. It was only then, after wasting 45 minutes, that he told me that the option for longer trips was not actually available for the policy I was buying: why couldn't they have told me that earlier?

It gets worse... the premium now increased, and they guy offered me a lower one, but without telling me he had unselected some of the optional extras that I had said that I needed. More frustration and time wasted as I made him select them again, and by now the price on the online quote had gone through the roof. Then he said that he could offer me a special discount, bringing the price near to what was originally offered. So I bought it from him, before the price shot up again. So I paid extra for wasting time on the 'phone, and still have a product that is not exactly what I want.

And the real kicker: I had begun the online purchase through a link that gives you Airmiles if you buy through them. Of course I completed the purchase by telephone, so I lost the Airmiles as well.

This company needs to train its staff properly on their products. And if they are on commission, that is not in the interest of the customer.

Edit: I see that the company listened to a recording of my call, and say that the agent did nothing wrong. I would really ask, when I called about what seemed to be a technical malfunction and my query could have been resolved in seconds, was it "correct" to begin the quotation again, rather than simply let me know that the option I wanted was not available? And why could they not have told me this when I contacted them by messaging?

Reply from Avanti Travel Insurance

Dear David,

Thank you for your review, I am sorry you are unhappy with your recent encounter with Avanti.

I am sorry to hear that your contact with us was not up to our usual high standards. As you can appreciate, our agents need to ensure that we capture all relevant information for your own protection in the unforeseen event that you need to submit a claim, this is the reason they go through the quote with you. I can also see that the call was listened to as part of our regular call monitoring and the agent was found to have done nothing wrong.

Once again, please accept my sincere apologies for the inconvenience and any frustration caused.

Kind Regards
Michelle

Total lack of customer service

I already have their credit card, which I do not usually use. I tried to apply for their bank account, but had to go through another ID check (should not be necessary). I provided a photo of my passport, but this was not processed and they emailed saying my application had failed.

Then I tried to contact them about it. Their online chat gave completely wrong advice, so I tried to telephone them. Impossible to raise a complaint, or even speak to the complaints team. I was promised a callback, but it never happened.

Three weeks later, I advise you to avoid them until they start thinking of the customer.

Do not communicate!

I just need a receipt for a package I sent from Poland. Online chat could not help but gave me a UK-specific email address. I asked for an email for their billing in Poland, but they just disconnected me.

I tried again, and cannot get a human.

Normal companies send you an email confirmation when you pay for something, but not this lot.

Messed-up software and no human support

I arranged to send a package but could not pay... an error message asking for a tax number. The form says that this is voluntary, but payment was impossible without it.

Online chat was in Polish but did not help. Telephone support was eventually answered, and the person said that it was a technical problem and so I had to talk to someone else and then she disconnected me.

Customer support is lacking...

Customer support is lacking.... I was locked out of my account and found it impossible to find any contact details on the website.

Now I am back in my account, but cannot log on again because they insist that you download some security app and use that. What nonsense! So I cannot even see my holdings, much less manage them.

I tried to send a message using their website, and it said "unknown error: try again later".

This is simply not good enough.

Almost but not quite useful

Customer service is seriously inadequate. Freetrade made an error when calculating my free shares; I emailed them about this, but after ten working days there has been no reply. I made a formal complaint after a week but again there has been no response.

The platform is really not suitable for people who want to trade, since you don't get real-time prices. Even when you buy or sell, you do not see the actual price until after your deal has gone through.

Unlike most platforms, Freetrade do not give you the information provided by Morningstar so you cannot make sensible investment decisions without going outside the app for your research.

We're sorry for causing any inconvenience here. Please could you kindly reach out to us at reviews@freetrade.io so that we can check the status of your Free share award? These are usually awarded every 7-10 days on a Wednesday.

In terms of the complaint process, the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) gives eight weeks to send you our response, however, we'll do all we can to respond to you at the earliest opportunity.

As a retail stockbroker we also work on Best execution, so the price may differ slightly after it's been placed as the price in-app is the last-price. If you'd like us to take a look into any of your orders or answer any questions, just drop us a message.

User interface is not functional

They have an offer of a free share if you sign up using a referral link, and my free share was credited within minutes. So, two stars rather than one star. However, their functionality is DIRE...

I opened an account without major difficulties, although their web interface is terrible and I faced long delays when moving from one page to another. Then I wanted to open an ISA as well... I wasted loads of time trying to find a way to do this (which should be really easy), then had to sign up for a separate discussion board in order to ask. I received a fairly useless response from one of their staff who asked me to reply with screenshots, so I did so... only to receive another email saying that my email address has been silenced!

If they cannot get the very basic things to work, how can one trust them with one's money?

No refund on barely-used policy

I travelled to Turkey shortly before the earthquake and following that catastrophe I returned home much earlier than I had planned. While I did not suffer any insured loss I requested a refund of at least part of my insurance premium since I was unable to use most of my insurance. This would have been a reasonable customer service gesture, but they did not consider it.

I have never made a claim with this insurer and so it is not reasonable to write a review. I have bought policies from them in the recent past and each purchase generates a flurry of request to review so it seems that they are constantly pestering me to do this. Reviews of insurers are only valuable if they refer to a claims experience: if you simply buy a policy and never claim you have no idea how good or bad it was.

Hi David,

We’re sorry to hear you had to return home early following the events which unfolded in Turkey.

I have passed your feedback on to our travel team and also raised this with our complaints team who will review and respond to you directly.

With regards to your comment on pestering you to review the policy, we invite customers to leave a review based upon a number of different experiences or points. This could be the product features and benefits, price, customer journey, or the service received throughout the duration of a policy or claims experience.

We send an initial review email and a reminder 5 days later. No other review requests are sent. Alternatively you can opt out of receiving a review request at any point if required. All feedback is taken on board with the aim to improve our services for new and existing customers.

Finally, regarding our claims experience, every claim is different with some requiring more information than others. To date, we have paid out on a significant amount of claims all in line with the terms and conditions of the policy, and level of cover selected.

Many thanks,
Oasis Insurance

Painless language learning

I find this to be a pleasant and effective way to learn a language. Lessons are short and satisfying; exercises are easy; and on the whole it feels more like playing a computer game than a chore. Material is presented as text; as images and videos; as sound recordings. There is a reasonable balance between useful phrases and explanations of grammar.

Worst website ever

This is the most poorly designed and bug-ridden site I have used for a long time. Perhaps the worst feature is that if you have set up and saved a recipient, you can easily navigate to the recipient details but from there you cannot set up a money transfer, and if you set up a money transfer you cannot send to a saved recipient!

And at various stages during the 'customer journey' you receive the helpful error message "something has gone wrong". After wasting a good half hour on this, trying two separate browsers, and turning off most of my security features, I was allowed to fund a transfer by 'faster payment' from my bank account but attempts to do so with a debit card continued to yield the unhelpful error message.

Having said all this, once I had managed to complete the process the money transfer worked and my recipient was notified within a few minutes.

This is a dishonest company

This is a dishonest company. They frequently email me asking me to complete a specific survey, but when I click on the link I am asked to provide demographic details "so they can find a survey for me". After considerable time I might be asked to complete a survey, for a reward, but then after giving more information I receive a message saying they have enough responses, so my time is wasted and no reward is provided.

Avoid.

Customer comes last

I recently switched accounts to them for the 100 pound voucher, and to be fair they sent it to me without problems. However, using this bank account is a nightmare. Their online banking does not allow me to transfer funds from current account to savings account, and any attempt to telephone them involves an unreasonably long wait.

Cheapest is best!

I chose this company because it was a little cheaper than any other, and then worried that this might have been a mistake. I needn't have worried: after placing my order on-line I telephoned to confirm some details. My call was answered promptly by an agent who was helpful and competent with a pleasant manner, and in fact my purchase arrived a day before it was expected.
