My Estate Kit helps families prepare for what comes next before the emergency begins. After a death, everything is not handled at once. There are first the 5 days to deal with the urgent steps, then the first 28 days to notify the right people and organisations, then the following 6 months to move forward with probate, HMRC, estate valuation and the important paperwork. This is why we created the 5-28-6 Method: a simple way to prepare the practical and administrative tasks linked to an estate, before and after death. The printable kit helps you gather essential information in advance: documents, bank accounts, pensions, insurance policies, utilities, property details, contacts, funeral wishes, family information and details useful for an executor, solicitor or probate professional. The aim is to avoid your loved ones having to search everywhere in a stressful moment, missing an important step or starting the probate process without the right information. After purchase, access is sent by email. The kit can be printed, filled in by hand and kept in a folder with important papers. Email support is available if needed.

This kit has thought of everything

This kit has thought of everything! Just what I was hoping for; a clear concise step by step guide with prioritisation, explanation and encouragement. The draft letters are a huge bonus too, thank you.

Not all that it seems.

There is no doubt that this is a good product that greatly assists the process of managing a decease in the family.
However, the advertising is misleading. The kit is sent as files by email & requires the ability to view, edit & print documents.
The webpage illustrations give the impression that there are document folders included -- there are not. The customer must file any printouts in their own folders.
Given the costs involved, the company should make more clear all the above.
Had we known this, we may not have purchased.

Dear Paul,

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback.

We are sorry that the digital format of the kit was not sufficiently clear to you before purchase. We do state throughout the website and again at checkout that the kit is a digital product delivered by email, and that no physical folders are included.

The illustrations shown on our website include photographs sent to us by customers who created their own homemade folders after downloading the kit. We share them as examples of how families choose to organise their documents at home, but we understand that this may have caused confusion and will look at how we can make this even clearer.

The digital format also has several practical advantages. The documents can be completed directly on a computer, saved and updated over time as personal circumstances change. It also allows us to provide future updates so the kit can remain aligned with changes to the relevant legal and administrative framework. Clients can also adapt the documents to their own needs, including adding information and adjusting the amount of space required, rather than being limited by a fixed printed form.

In any case, every purchase is covered by our satisfaction guarantee. If the kit does not meet your expectations, or if there has been any misunderstanding, a simple email to our support team is sufficient for us to arrange a refund.

Kind regards,
The My Estate Kit Team

Invaluable

This has been invaluable. The full and lucid guidelines will surely help our executors, and the personal and financial forms have concentrated our minds. Listing and explaining income and expenditure has been an eye opener - there is so much and days later we keep thinking of things to add. Explaining where everything is has again made us sort and rationalise. The team reply quickly and fully to any queries - excellent customer communications. We bought the basic kit - good value for money. I suspect our executors may well ask for the notification letters add on, again to save much time.

This Kit is specific to Scots…

This Kit is specific to Scots Law....which makes it perfect for people living in Scotland. I was delighted to find this Kit as most similar items are of no use to us Scots as they will relate to English Law.

The Kit was sent quickly to my email. You obviously need to have a printer as this is how you access the documents.

There is a lot of reading to do, but it is very well set out and easy to follow. It includes everything you need to do/ what information you need to pass on to your executors and when, along with template letters, which are very helpful.

I highly recommend this Kit to anyone living in Scotland. It really does cover everything you need to do to make it simple for your executors/relatives/ heirs to know exactly what to do once you die. It has obviously been put together by people with legal knowledge and experience of Scots Law.

I have a Will.....but it's all the bits of information such as bank accounts/ subscriptions/ passwords etc, that are needed by your executors and are not readily known to anyone but ourselves and are certainly not detailed in a Will. This Kit makes you realise that you need to document all these things and the Kit enables you to put it all in one folder for whoever has to deal with all that has to happen when you die.

It's perfect.

Great value for money.

Thank you so much Lesley for this thoughtful and detailed review.

We are delighted that you found the Scotland-specific version clear, practical and genuinely useful. As you rightly highlight, a Will does not usually contain all the everyday information executors and relatives may need, such as bank accounts, subscriptions, passwords and key contacts. The purpose of the Kit is to help bring all of this together in one organised place.

For anyone reading this review, we also offer separate versions specifically adapted for England & Wales and for Northern Ireland, so customers can choose the Kit that corresponds to the law and procedures where they live.

Thank you again for your recommendation and kind words.

Having read the advert

Having read the advert. and being impressed about the information, I ordered and received in a very short time
the paperwork necessary to ease the burden of parting.
It exceeded my expectations, and I am busily recording
any , and every , detail I think is necessary.
To my mind , every aspect is covered and will be most helpful following bereavement. Thank you .

Was duped by this …

They don’t tell you in their long preamble about how effective their kit is that it is sent by email and you must print it yourself. I don’t have a printer and I wouldn’t have purchased had I known this. I feel duped.

Dear Mairead,

We are sorry to hear that you feel disappointed with your purchase.

We would like to clarify that the kit is intentionally provided in a digital format so customers can complete it directly on a computer, tablet, or phone, save their information, and easily update it over time. Printing is completely optional and only available for customers who prefer to keep a physical copy.

The digital format is clearly stated several times throughout our website, including that the documents are delivered by email and can be completed digitally or printed if desired.

We completely understand that if you were expecting a physical folder this may have been frustrating, and we are always happy to help. We offer refunds when a customer feels the product is not suitable, and we have handled many similar situations through friendly and respectful conversations with customers.

We have contacted you directly and are currently waiting for your response so we can confirm your order details and process your refund if you still wish to proceed.

We would simply encourage customers to contact us first if they have any concerns, as we are always available to find a solution and provide assistance.

Kind regards,
My Estate Kit

an essential package

This is an essential package to make life as easy as possible for your executor. Everything is here .. well laid out and easy to follow. It underlines the point made by the creators that a will is definitely not enough.A few hours collecting the information will save days of worry for those sorting out your estate and trying to find where everything is. An absolutely essential package

The 'Estate Kit' review for Probate- fantastic kit

As a person who has been in the Justice business for 20 years, I was very skeptical as to whether this 'Estate Kit' would meet my expectation, considering I am doing it prior to passing over, as I don't know if I'll have the time when I get to where I'm going.

After reading the first guide, I found the detail within was comprehensive, and above all easy to follow.
The guide has taken a lot of difficulty out of the probate process.
Right, I said to myself "let's see how the documentation stacks up against the guide", by applying the detail to the 'Family Folder'.
I found it easy to follow how each part of the 'Family Folder' was coming together by following the 3-stage process.
Once you get going, you want to go through to the end but remember that there is a fair bit of detective work in stage 2, tracking down documents, when you don't know where they are.
Not all people are nerds like me, and store statements and anything else which helps fill the forms in.
Keep on the lookout for anything which has an account number, address or the probate person's name on it, and keep the most up to date copy in a file.
The others you have found may have a different address or account number so be careful what you throw away at this point.
Above all don't rush the process - At this point you should have completed the 1st milestone (5 days) by registering the death, dealing with the funeral and prepare to move to stage 2, which is the 'hunt the documents stage'.
If you do this before the person passes over, this will be a great help. That's why I'm doing the work before I go, so that my kids have a straightforward time through probate.
During this 28-day stage 2, it's a good time to review your will and see if any changes need to be made. A probate solicitor is good value for money in checking your will and 'statement of wishes' to see if its tax efficient and what you want to happen after your death. I would also suggest you talk the probate process over with your solicitor and decide on what you can do and what's more complex for the solicitor to do.
Back to the Family Folder - I'm finding as much of the paperwork the folder says should be included. Some of it was months old but gave me enough detail to get up to date copies. I'm slowly working through stage 2.
I'll provide an update as I move to Stage 3 - towards the IHT 400 form to submit for probate. The estate kit takes you through the whole process in an easy step by step way and even I was happy to follow the guidance to the end and enjoyed the experience.

Appears to be a easy step-by-step guide

Appears to be a very easy step-by-step guide to make sure everything is transparent for those handling our estates.
And the follow up was much appreciated. It makes a nice change to know that there's a team waiting to answer any questions after the purchase.

Love the My Estate Kit

Love the My Estate Kit. I am sure my family will find it invaluable when the time comes. Everything is explained so clearly.
. I like that you can either print it and fill in or do it on line.
Don’t know if it is because I had to print it from my IPad, but I think in places two lines or more to fill in information would be more useful as I have had to write extremely small to fit info in or will have to write in the other side of the paper Otherwise, delighted with the Kit.

Essential help that I didn't know I needed until now

I thought we had things organised (wills prepared, powers of attorney in place, wishes written down). This kit showed us what order we needed to do things in and how much we needed to write down so that our executor could carry out his duties when we aren't around. Help requested from the website was swiftly given, easy to follow and friendly. I am so glad we bought this kit.

Clarity rather than confusion.

The documentation arrived very quickly. It's a lot to go through but the end result should give me peace of mind and ensure those dealing with my will should be greatly assisted by having everything chronicled and to hand. I emailed my appreciation and received a reply letting me know if I had any problems or questions they were there to assist me which is very reassuring.
