Rick Stein Dine at home
We were given a £50 Rick Stein Dine at Home gift voucher for Christmas. We thought as it was so special we would save it and use it for our lockdown valentines meal. Unlike others we didn’t have an issue with delivery, maybe because I had booked delivery for the 13th just in case. However the food was incredibly disappointing. We’d ordered the vegetarian menu (hubby’s allergic to shellfish) and two of the curries had leaked and the desert container was all cracked with bits of plastic in the desert making it inedible.
The food itself tasted okay but no better than an M&S dine in for 2 or a takeaway from the local Indian. I have a feeling that they had overpromised for Valentines as the portion sizes were absolutely minute. Nothing like in their pictures, and the fresh items were certainly beyond their best.
What upset me the most though with the terrible amount of plastic that everything was packaged in. It was absolutely appalling, especially for somebody who goes on the TV and promotes eco-issues. I know from other online food delivery services it is perfectly doable to package food without using so much plastic.
We do have to give credit to the customer service though as I emailed them within about five minutes of the delivery arriving due to it all having leaked and they emailed straight back with a full credit back to the gift voucher. I have now put this towards a weekend breakfast and stocking up on jams and pickles. It is being delivered next weekend so let’s see how that goes.
What we recommend them, no.
Would we buy a gift voucher for somebody thinking it was a treat, no.
Would we go in any of the actual restaurants or shops if I was nearby, no. We feel this is an example have an organisation that is using a name that is just out to make money and as a result the standards slip.
Save your money and get a dine in for two from M&S or a take away, you will not notice the difference!!
