Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Considering 520 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many people frequently complained about unhelpful customer service representatives and automated bots completely failing to resolve billing or ride issues. Consumers also experienced extremely unreliable drivers who frequently canceled trips, arrived very late, or caused unexpected fare increases. Reviewers noted that getting support was nearly impossible when trying to fix these persistent problems. Conversely, a small portion of people felt that certain drivers were remarkably friendly and maintained clean, spacious vehicles. Some customers also noted that the platform occasionally provided helpful, affordable transportation solutions during difficult personal situations.

Neither Freenow nor Gett, both acquired by Lyft, could find a black cab in London on a peaceful weekday afternoon. If they cannot do something as simple as that, what can they do?

Overcharged by double

Was quoted $24.30 for the ride and was charged $45.85, with no extra stops or longer than expected ride duration, just overcharged me for no reason and then refused to refund me the difference!! Absolute scam of a company!! Do not be fooled by low advertised price because they will just up charge you after the ride is complete!!

Used to be good and more than…

Used to be good and more than reasonably priced - not any more !!
High price charges / drivers who clearly haven’t a clue about Sat Nav / 2/3 changes of pick up time and driver for one trip is now not unusual / Pick up and Drop off locations on App are confusing and misleading !
Lyft don’t seem to care about improving any of this - so one more trip to the Airport will likely be my last !

False accusations, terrible driver support, and lack of safety for drivers

I have been driving for Lyft, maintaining a professional record and providing safe rides. Recently, a passenger made completely fabricated, malicious, and absurd false allegations against me. Without proper initial investigation, Lyft immediately deactivated my account.
After I provided evidence and pointed out the clear contradictions in the rider's claim, Lyft admitted the mistake, cleared the allegations, and reactivated my account, stating that they followed up with the rider. However, this experience showed me how vulnerable drivers are on this platform. Lyft offers zero protection against fake accusations that can ruin a driver's livelihood in a second.
To make matters worse, their support team only sends automated, generic template responses without offering real resolution or accountability. Meanwhile, I also drive for Uber, where the rider quality, respect, and overall support system are vastly superior.
Lyft’s system fails to protect honest drivers from malicious passengers. I have stopped driving for Lyft due to this unsafe and unfair environment. Potential drivers should be aware that Lyft will suspend you first based on unverified claims before even asking for your side of the story.

Overcharged for the ride.

First of all when I booked a standard ride, the charge for the ride was about $18 but after the ride was complete it charged me $37.97 , I contacted the support customer service but they said it charged me correctly. It really frustrated me.

This is the second d worst car share in…

This is the second worst car share in the nation!
Not only they got those foreigners as customer service agents in different countries who know nothing about American culture and how we operate over here. They don't care about drivers who are unprofessional and stealing items thats fell in their cars and won't bring the items back. And lyft excuse is, "the drivers are independent contractors". We'll, i'm going to file police reports on any driver who steals from me. Refusing to returned an item to a customer's is theft, plain and simple. And on top of that when you request a ride and want to wait for it they keep popping up messages asking to upgrade to higher fees to get a dricer faster which is a lie. Thats their other way of robbing the customers. Hate lyft as much as I hate Uber. Hope more companies start new risdeshares to run those two evils out of business!

Lyft is Horrible

Lyft is Horrible. Drivers are extremely illegal, dangerous, distracted, unsafe. Cancel on you all the time after keeping you waiting forever. No accountability. They hire anyone and have zero expect for the LAW or SAFETY. Use Uber instead!

After my experience with this company…

After my experience with this company last Wednesday I will never use them again or recommend them to anyone. I had a ride scheduled for after the concert I attended in Edmonton. The driver cancelled two minutes away and left myself and my special needs brother stranded in downtown Edmonton his name was Micheal apparently the best driver ya right. As I’m not from Edmonton I didn’t know the way to my hotel . If this is the service one can expect I will stick to Uber or cabs

Quantitative Breakdown of Lyft’s Disincentivizing Reward Tiers and Earnings Dilution

Subject: Quantitative Breakdown of Lyft’s Disincentivizing Reward Tiers and Earnings Dilution

As an independent contractor with over 10,000 completed rides, a consistent near-five-star rating, and a professional background managing a consulting firm specializing in financial modeling, I am providing a data-backed critique of Lyft’s operational changes. While the platform offers flexibility, recent systemic updates deploy highly manipulative performance gamification that alters the margin structure for top-tier independent contractors.

Prospective drivers must analyze the following structural issues before leveraging this platform:
1 Negligible Reward Arbitrage and Tier Stripping
2 The legacy system rewarded highly consistent, top-performing drivers with a 5% bonus for maintaining high-quality service over time. For a high-volume driver, this baseline represented an estimated $2,500 in annual recurring value. The modern tiered rewards system replaces this predictable upside with nominal monthly cash-backs or perks valued at roughly $50 to $60. Furthermore, failing to meet the rigid, real-time acceptance or volume metrics of an immediate higher tier strips the contractor of all previous tier benefits entirely. This creates an aggressive performance penalty system that compromises true independent contractor autonomy.

3 Algorithmic Dilution via the 70% Earnings Guarantee
4 The widely publicized 70% net earnings guarantee is structurally misleading due to the opacity of platform fee deductions. In traditional financial modeling, a top-line guarantee should apply uniformly to gross customer spend minus verifiable, fixed regulatory expenses. Instead, Lyft utilizes internal fee allocations to compress the baseline profit margin before calculating the 70% threshold. When promotional bonuses are introduced, they are effectively absorbed or diluted into the existing guarantee calculation rather than acting as a true compounding incentive. The platform captures a disproportionate share of the economic upside generated by the driver's increased labor output.

5 Excessive Platforms Take-Rates
6 When factoring in the compounding effect of rider-side platform fees, commercial insurance allocations, and the suppression of milestone bonuses, the true take-rate frequently exceeds 56% of gross customer spend. Because independent contractors are barred from setting localized market rates, they bear the full brunt of vehicle depreciation and escalating operational costs, while the platform maintains asymmetric control over pricing distribution.

Conclusion
Lyft has engineered an ecosystem that forces independent contractors into a low-yield performance loop. By manipulating behavioral metrics through aggressive tier degradation and diluting the mathematical reality of driver bonuses, the platform actively penalizes its most consistent, highly rated operators. The current financial architecture relies on non-transparent data structures that undermine equitable marketplace mechanics.

Disappointed With Lyft Flexdrive Rental Program

I rented a vehicle through Lyft’s Flexdrive program at the 1754 N Main St location in Los Angeles. The vehicle I received was extremely dirty and the seats were in terrible condition.

I contacted them the next day because I wanted to exchange or return the vehicle. I was told they would not exchange it and that the condition was basically considered normal wear. I was also told that if I returned the vehicle, I would still have to pay the full weekly rental price.

That put me in a difficult position because I needed the vehicle to drive and earn money. I also couldn’t simply return it and immediately rent somewhere else because I would have had to wait for my deposit to be returned.

I was uncomfortable driving the vehicle every day, especially knowing I was expected to pick up Lyft passengers in it. I expected a rideshare rental vehicle to be provided in much better condition and expected Lyft/Flexdrive to offer a reasonable solution when I reported the problem.

Based on my experience, I would not use Lyft’s Flexdrive rental program again.

I was totally taking advantage of I am a disabled lady trying to go to work. They took all my money for no reason that driver just charged my account twice.

I have never been more upset in my entire life that driver charged my chime account two separate $15 charges which made a 6 mile trip for me to go to work at 4 o’clock in the morning cost out over $31 in and lift will not honor it will lift will not do anything about it I have my bank statements showing that I got charged twice. I am sick of lift. I will never use their services again. It’s the poorest service I’ve ever used. I am livid that that driver charged my account twice and Lyft won’t do anything about it. I’d suggest to never use their services never use their customer service and never never never give the drivers your credit information. He ripped me off and I am mad at Lyft. They will not honor what they have done wrong and they will not do anything about it, and I am sick of people like this out there taking advantage of us. I’ve worked hard for my money and that man had no right to charge my credit card $31 for a 6 mile trip I’m mad I am so angry at them and they will not even do anything about it. They are just wrong. They are a horrible, horrible customer service company. They have no customer service whatsoever and their driver is awful. He’s a thief.

1st time taking Lyft

Took Lyft for the 1st time last night and based on their GPS routing system, it took 1.29hrs one way and 1.32hrs on the way back - traveling 28km each way. The driver can't pick and chose his/her route, because city driving would have been 100% better. And Lyfts 'safety care team' absolutely ridiculous, 6 people, 1 hour on a chat window and zero resolution. Apparently, they are escalating this issue. I asked for a refund and they said, no; asked for a credit on the account and none of the 6 could make the decision. I think they deliberately frustrate the customer so they give up.

I felt bad for us in the car and the driver - how are they supposed to make money if a 28km drive takes 1.5hrs

The fraudulent charge of Lyft

This review is not about the trip itself — it is about a fraudulent charge for a ride I did not take, and the complete non‑feasance of Canadian regulators who refused to address it.

Lyft altered my trip record after the ride, changed the drop‑off location to a place I never went, and charged me for a second trip I did not take. When I filed a dispute, the original trip data disappeared from the app. Lyft has refused to respond or investigate.

What makes this worse is that no Canadian regulator claims jurisdiction. The Competition Bureau, MPBSDP Consumer Protection, and Toronto Municipal Licensing & Standards all declined to act, each saying it was “not their department.”

This creates a dangerous situation where digital platforms can alter records, charge consumers for fraudulent trips, and face no consequences.

I am now organizing a Canada‑wide group of victims to document these cases and coordinate evidence for potential class action and media exposure. If you have experienced similar issues, please consider joining:

No customer support

When it works, it works well. When it doesn’t, it blows. The platform experience is so bad when you encounter edge cases. If you're going out during rush hours, be prepared to get canceled all the time and still pay the same fare. And there’s no customer support. It doesnt exist. I ran into issues with the platform issues many time. And theres no way to report platform issue. You can only report issues as a rider. What a complete joke of an app. They don’t wanna know if the app goes wrong. Not their problem.
