About CD Baby
Written by the company
Music distribution is about getting your songs in front of the most people possible. That’s why over a million independent creators worldwide use CD Baby to release their music across all major digital streaming platforms like Spotify, TikTok and YouTube Music.
CD Baby makes releasing music affordable— all our distribution services for just a one-time fee of $9.99 per release, whether it's a single or an album. And whenever we add a new digital retail partner, your music catalogue will be delivered to them free of charge.
Many music distributors claim to offer free music distribution but charge additional per-retailer fees, annual subs fees, cancellation fees, and all kinds of hidden add-ons and upsells for additional services. CD Baby has no recurring subscription fees, so you don’t have to worry about us ever taking down your music if you miss a payment (there are no payments!)
CD Baby also offers Mechanical and Digital Performance Royalty collection and Sync Licensing as part of our Boost service, as well as our Stages program for emerging artists. Stages offers a suite of valuable artist services, moving with you as your artist career advances and unlocking new opportunities such as expedited release inspection, DSP playlist pitching, and more.

1 star
1 star — Extremely disappointing experience with CD Baby
I am writing this review because, after several exchanges with CD Baby customer support, I still have not received a straightforward answer to a very simple question.
I released a single through CD Baby. Until the very day of its scheduled release, the release was still showing as “In Queue” in my CD Baby dashboard. I therefore had no clear indication from CD Baby that the release had been processed and would actually be available on the platforms.
The single was eventually delivered within CD Baby's stated processing timeframe — that is not my complaint.
My concern is very simple: if my release remained marked as “In Queue” until the day it was released, and I received no email notifying me that it was now available on the streaming platforms, how am I supposed to properly plan and coordinate the promotion of my music?
And this leads directly to the only question I wanted CD Baby to answer:
Is the same thing going to happen with my album?
I was not questioning CD Baby's published processing deadlines. I am perfectly aware of them and have been working with those deadlines. I simply wanted to know whether I could rely on CD Baby to provide clear and timely communication when my album is released, or whether I should expect to discover its availability myself.
Instead of answering this straightforward question, customer support repeatedly referred me to the processing deadlines and explained that the “In Queue” status was visible in my dashboard. But knowing that something is “In Queue” does not tell an artist when it will actually become available on the platforms.
What is particularly disappointing is that even after the matter was escalated to the Head of Operations, I still did not receive a direct answer to this question. Instead, I received another lengthy explanation of CD Baby's procedures that did not address the actual issue.
I also requested cancellation and a refund because, after this experience, I no longer feel confident entrusting my future releases to CD Baby. The response was essentially that the service had been provided and therefore no refund would be considered.
I find this attitude extremely disappointing. Meeting a processing deadline does not automatically mean that a service has been delivered in a professional, transparent and satisfactory manner.
The fact that CD Baby handles a large number of artists is not an excuse for poor communication or inadequate customer care. Independent artists are the customers who pay for this service, and their releases are not simply numbers in a queue.
After this experience, I am seriously questioning whether CD Baby is a company I can trust with my future releases.
I will also be investigating what legal options may be available to me regarding the refusal of a refund, and I intend to share my experience publicly so that other independent artists can make an informed decision before choosing a distributor.
The most frustrating part is that I never asked for anything unreasonable. I simply wanted to know whether I could expect the same lack of communication with my album. After multiple emails — including one with the Head of Operations — I still haven't received a clear answer.
I give the 5 star's because I'm my case…
I give the 5 star's because I'm my case all it was perfect! The support, the following at my song creation , absolutely recommend! keep maintenant the quality and support! Thank you very much dear Team of CD BABY!
Worst support I've ever dealt with. A month of runarounds and still nothing solved.
Worst support I've ever dealt with. A month of runarounds and still nothing solved.
CD Baby distributed my two albums fine, I'll give them that. But the second something goes wrong, their support is a black hole.
My artist name is in Cyrillic. On delivery, their system created TWO duplicate artist profiles on Spotify AND Apple Music instead of one. Their own help article literally says Cyrillic names need to be linked manually by submitting the Artist IDs to CD Baby. So I did exactly that.
Here's what happened over the next MONTH:
First ticket: ignored for a month, then quietly closed with zero action.
Reopened it: "wrong form, use this one."
Used that form: "wrong form again, use this one."
Third form, with every Artist ID, UPC, correct and duplicate profiles clearly laid out: their AI bot replied about something completely different (changing artist names?? I never asked that) and told me it "can't be reviewed by a human agent."
So they can't even read the request. Real agent Brandon just kept forwarding me to "another form" like a broken record while nothing ever got filed.
I gave them everything: correct Spotify ID, duplicate ID, Apple IDs, UPCs, track info. All they had to do was file a separation request with the platforms. A month later it's still not done, and every reply is either a copy-paste, a wrong-form redirect, or an AI bot that doesn't understand plain English.
If you have a Latin-alphabet name and never need help, maybe you'll be fine. But if anything breaks — especially anything involving non-English names — you are completely on your own. Their "support" actively wastes your time instead of solving anything.
Taking my catalog elsewhere. Never again.
CD baby delivered everything it said it…
CD baby delivered everything it said it would. I have no complaints.
Simple process.
To get my music release is going to be a great accomplishment for me and cdbaby is about to help me release my cd
The company is a great help for independent artist to get my cd release thanks
It is very handy
Distributed the wrong music file, would not respond, over a month and waiting
They distributed the wrong music file. The one in my account is clearly different. I submitted a help ticket twice over a month ago and they did not respond. I did get someone to respond through Facebook messenger, but they are just marketing people and told me to just be patient. Over a month with the wrong song distributed and nobody willing to even give me the time of day.
Music distribution for small independent artist
Very practical and efficient way to distribute music. The site is user friendly and the support works well also. I had an issue with a song that needed an update after submission and they managed to do it quickly. No complaints so far.
CD Baby is my long-time distributor BUT…
CD Baby is my long-time distributor but I have two main issues. The first one is that it is no longer possible to have a quick exchange to resolve any issues with a real human being. In the past, a chat online or a quick email or even a phone call could clear up any problem in a matter of minutes.
The second thing has just come up and it is the fact that Show.co for pre-saves is only really for Spotify whereas most artists want to give listeners a choice of which platform to go to.
You did what you advertised!
You did what you advertised. That is great! I appreciate it.
The process was simple and smooth
The process was simple and smooth from start to finish. I really appreciated how easy it was to get my music distributed. I also really like that CD Baby offers a one-time payment option rather than requiring a monthly or annual subscription just to keep your music available. Overall, I’ve had a great experience and would definitely recommend CD Baby to other independent artists.
Always a great collaboration
I love CD Baby and am glad for collaborating !!!
You guys are doing a great job !!!
Thank you !!!!!

Great service but...
I ran into an issue where I had the aliases of the artists on the album cover, but when creating the music packages, it only asked for legal names, with no fields available for the pseudonyms they used. It delayed the project some, but overall everything went as well as could be expected. I would like to see a workaround for the above, though.
The promotions on the platforms
Very thorough
