Pathetic work by DHL
In my case DHL does not even deserve a one-star rating. I sent from Bangkok an officially certified confirmation to an insurance-company in Zurich/Switzerland. This letter was returned after 11 days to my domicile in Thailand with the explanation that it could not be delivered. Reason: For the delivery in Zurich they would have needed the name of a contact-person. Apparently DHL is unaware that letters to insurance-companies can only be delivered during the office-hours, and that the receipt of the letter will be confirmed at the insurance-company's reception-desk. DHL not only had the correct address but also the correct telephone-number of this insurance-company. This pathetic service from DHL cost me more than the equivalent of 40 Swiss francs, and I will therefore avoid DHL in the future.
Delivery drivers does not attempt…
Delivery drivers does not attempt delivery but marks it as attempted. Customer service upon filing the complaint was completely unapologetic.
Lying about the delivery
This company is ridiculous. I had a delivery scheduled for today, I did not leave the house as it was a delivery on demand, so my signature was necessary. I just received an email out of nowhere, that they are sorry but they could not deliver my package as I was not at home. They didn't even ring the doorbell!! It would have been a birthday present for tomorrow, and of course due to Easter Holiday, they will not deliver it by Tuesday. Pathetic, absolutely unprofessional, never again!
Pathetic inconvenience
Pathetic, claimed to attempt delivery but doorbell was not even rang.
Unfortunately 1 star is the minimum
Unfortunately 1 star is the minimum, DHL deserves ZERO!
Worst customer service possible, initial link to pay VAT did not work (even within the short 48h time window), then additional fees got charged immediately. When contacting them you get sent from one department to the next and after 5 different emails and couple of days the next invoice with even more additional fees gets sent out.
They are only trying to squeeze as much money out of every single Swiss customer as possible, and their practices feel even worse than most (other) scams!
If online Shops would declare that DHL will be used, I would never buy there and try to find another source even if the item(s) themselves cost more.

Paying less than CHF 30 of VAT turned into a data-harvesting obstacle course.
WhatsApp spam, forced account creation, full address, email, phone number, postal code revalidation, double phone + email verification — all of this just to pay a tax.
And if you refuse to give up all your personal data?
You’re threatened with extra fees and delivery charges.
I do not choose DHL as a carrier. It is imposed.
Being forced into your databases under pressure is unacceptable.
Shameful practice. No trust.
Terrible service and exorbitant costs.
Terrible service and exorbitant costs.
25% administration costs!
it is not clear to me why, on a package valued 50 CHF plus delivery costs of 50 CHF, I had to pay 26.5 CHF customs and handling!
basically, over 25% for administration???
I contested it but had no wish to start aggravating myself so I paid but I told them I will warn customers!
Delivering outside of the promised times, don't wait for you to reach the door and then mark failed delivery repeatedly
They let me select a 6 hour delivery slot (12:00-18:00), but still attempted delivery way outside of the time slot (09:35) and then marked it as failed delivery.
They also do not give time for you to get downstairs from the elevator; this time AGAIN I actually was in, buzzed them in, told them I was coming down, and then they had left by the time I came down!
Absolutely atrocious service, it feels impossible to actually receive a delivery that has to have a signature.
Excellent service!
Easily the best postal company I've ever used. I'm honestly really surprised about their ratings here.
I receive a lot of sensitive packages from all over the globe [including places where postal packages are known to get lost a lot] and DHL is the one service that has somehow managed to never let me down through the years. It's the only service I trust with fragile, sensitive or precious items.
They have always been fast and punctual. More importantly they have a great customer service around here. Their customs brokers tend to take care of clearance related matters [or any missing info] long before the package arrives in the destination country, so that there are no delays in delivery.
The one time recently when the package wasn't delivered even though I was at home waiting for it, it was because the sender had managed to garble my name. I contacted DHL, they had the delivery person contact me, and the package was still delivered on the same day!!
Would rate lower if I could
Would rate lower if I could. Was forced to proceed to the destruction of a watch bracelet made of veal leather, simply because DHL had a suspicion that it was made out of alligator..
Absolutely shameful, we as customers have no right of discussing with them and finding arrangements......
Custom duties scam
Very dissatisfied. DHL informed me many times about the shipment, but failed to mention the package was in customs. Afterwards, they charged CHF30 for the customs clearance, for a package of CHF70, out of which CHF24 would have been avoided had they told me in time to pay the taxes. Feels like a scam.
Wrongly billed for customs fees – now in debt collection
In late 2024, I received a parcel from Universkin (France), where all costs – including Swiss VAT and customs – were already fully paid at checkout. Despite this, DHL sent me a separate invoice for the same charges.
I contacted DHL immediately and provided all necessary information. Their own records show that the shipper made a mistake by choosing the wrong delivery terms (DTU instead of DTP). This caused the customs invoice to be wrongly issued to me instead of the sender.
Still, DHL insisted on payment and told me they could only correct it if the sender submitted a specific form. I forwarded this to the sender right away – but DHL kept escalating the issue.
Now I’ve been placed in debt collection (Betreibung in Switzerland) over an amount I already paid via the original purchase. I’ve had no choice but to involve legal insurance.
This case shows a complete lack of flexibility and responsibility from DHL, even though the root cause was fully understood and well documented. Customer service should support victims of such system errors – not threaten them with legal consequences.
DHL Chile is absolutely horrible
DHL Chile is absolutely horrible. We sent some camping gear to a friend in Santiago so we would have it when we arrived more than a month later. (We are on a bicycle tour). DHL kept asking us for different information, all of which they already had. We promptly provided the requested information anyway. Eventually they told us our package was considered abandoned. We never received it after spending literally tens of hours on the phone and sending them emails. Completely incompetent and absolutely no sense of responsibility. Just pushing paper around. I repeat, a horrible company. Our wayfind number is 5048482611.
DHL, the worst service ever. Incompetence and lies from the begging to the end and no package found even if said as delivered.
I've bought drinks for Christmas and New Year's Eve to be delivered on December 24th at Andermatt, our winter holiday apartment. On the 1st attempt of delivery DHL has said that the address does not exist. The driver most likely do not know the are and checked on Google Maps, as the Andermatt streets are knew, they are not there yet. All address are in the Swiss Official Street Map, which must be checked by DHL before affirming that an address does not exist.
On January 2nd, DHL decided by themselves to attempt a new delivery on the same address and left our package somewhere that for sure it is not our building, as from the picture the building floor and staircase is unknown. The drinks came after Christmas and NY celebration, therefore TOO late. We are going back home tomorrow and now have a package left somewhere. The worst service ever. Incompetence from the beginning to the end. Better keep with Die Post which is a reliable service.
Deserves even less than one star
If I could rate them less that one star I would. They have the worst customer service imaginable that is not helpful for even the most basic enquiries. They damaged a package I shipped, completely ignoring the obvious handle with care sign on the box, placing very heavy objects on it and refusing to take responsibility for the damage caused to it's contents.
The cost of their service is not cheap and for that reason I am extremely insulted by the the lack of care and lack of humility in the way they handled my situation. They as a company has gotten too big for it's britches and is taking advantage of that fact. I will not be using their services ever again. After years of consistently using their services, to this disgraceful experience, they are not worth anything more than a poor rating. You are better off using absolutely any other delivery services.
Absolutely terrible service
Absolutely terrible service. I have NEVER had a delivery go smoothly or on time. They miss pick ups, there is no recourse as there is nobody to speak to and they charge a fortune for guaranteed service that never happens. DO NOT USE these people...awful company and service. They done it again yesterday and today....!!!!!
What worse than a bad company
What worse than a bad company. The couriers are so lazy to bell at the door and they leave a note not at home. And it is a patron of their service. The online customer service is good for nothing at all. The only words they can say perfectly Sorry and Have a nice day. The company doesn't care about customers. Sad.
The worst courier company…
The worst courier company I have ever used. They drop packages outside my building without signature or without even any notification that it has been dropped. This led to a package being stolen. Unacceptable.
Useless
Late + rude + uneducated, not caring about their company image, nor the customer. Please do not use them, go elsewhere.
