Laura, very poor at customer service skills
I purchased two Durante Glam Natural swivel armchairs from House of Units in October last year, costing £1,400 each. Within a couple of weeks, both chairs began to lose their shape and looked visibly misshapen.
I contacted House of Units straight away and was asked to send photos. Despite the clear change in structure, I was told they did not consider this to be a manufacturing fault and that I was not entitled to a refund unless their inspector came out to see if their was an issue. I refused this as this would mean I was over my 14-day money-back guarantee, I insisted on returning them.
What followed was an exhausting process involving over 50 emails back and forth with Laura, who handled my case. The communication lacked empathy and any real attempt to resolve the issue fairly. I had to escalate the matter to the Furniture Ombudsman before anything meaningful happened.
Interestingly, when the delivery team came to collect the chairs, they immediately acknowledged that they could see something was wrong. It was obvious. When I relayed this to Laura afterwards, she dismissed the comment and stated they could not comment on behalf of the drivers. Once again not caring, so very rude.
Only once the complaint was escalated externally did I receive a full refund.
I have spent thousands of pounds with this company on multiple sofas/Lights/tables in the past 2 years, but after this experience I will not be purchasing from House of Units again. The product quality was disappointing, that wasn't the issue, the issue is how I was treated and not worked with. The customer service and resistance to honouring a straightforward return were far worse.
I would strongly recommend that others consider how post-sale issues are handled before purchasing.
