Cash ISA, unhappy experience with HL.
I saw the headline interest rate for the cash ISA and decided to transfer my existing cash ISA to HL. My current provider was not supported for online transfer so I had to fill out a paper form and send to HL, no big issue there.
The transfer took just over a week to appear in my HL stocks and shares account. I then had to transfer into my, already opened cash ISA. I followed the instructions online but the money didn't appear in my ISA. I did get a notification HL had received my request to transfer. A couple of days later still nothing had happened so called HL. The guy I spoke to said there was nothing showing I had tried to make the transfer so suggested trying again, which I did, he said still nothing showing on the system!!!
He then told me that the ISA I had opened was over subscribed and would not accept further deposits and I would need to select a different product!!!
After the call I looked at my account and there was a box still inviting me to add to the ISA? I called HL again and spoke to a different person, after telling him the last person told me that the ISA product was over subscribed, he said he was not sure of the situation and transfer me to an ISA specialist, (why did the first person not do this)?
The ISA specialist informed me that the fund was not over subscribed and would accept my money. He said the reason the transfer had not gone through was that I had not selected a default savings product!!?? He talked me through doing this and lo and behold the transfer went through.
If I had not called a second time I would have been none the wiser that nothing was happening, very poor from HL.
Today I have received a message to say that my ISA has reached its deposit limit and anything over £20K had to go into a different product paying a lower interest rate. Pretty sure there was no mention of this when opening the account, again very poor from HL. If this limit was a thing, then it should have been VERY clear when opening the account. Fortunately the amount of money in the lower paying account is relatively small, what would have happened if someone was transferring a large ISA into HL? I would have been VERY unhappy had I found this detail out after the transfer. I have made an official complaint so will need to wait and see what the outcome of that is.
