Unprofessional Attitude

Very disappointing experience.

One of the staff was impolite and unprofessional during the ticket check. The interaction was unpleasant and left a very negative impression. Customer service should be respectful and professional! Unfortunately this experience did not meet that standard.

Hi Iris, and thanks for your feedback.

We are sorry to hear that our staff was unpolite. This is not what we expect from our staff.

If possible, could you give us more details, and we will follow up with the department of the people involved.

It’s affordable but can be better

I know VY doesn’t always enjoy the best reputation among local commuters, and perhaps for good reason. My experience, however, has been largely positive.

One thing I have noticed is that it feels noticeably less discriminatory than the Dutch rail service, where ticket inspectors have repeatedly singled me out by checking my ticket twice while ignoring others around me. I haven’t experienced that with VY, at least not so far.

The biggest criticism of VY is that the service can be slow. That’s fair. Ticket prices are slightly above average, but still reasonable.

The trains are generally clean. The staff can be genuinely polite or completely passive-aggressive. It’s a mixed bag and seems to depend on who is working that day.

I’d recommend VY over Flytoget any day. It’s the better-value option for getting from the airport to the city, costing roughly half as much. Flytoget doesn’t save enough time to justify paying about $10 extra for a one-way trip.

Hi, and thanks for your feedback. It's great to hear that our inspectors treat you nicely on the trains – as they should we must add.

Your other points: noted.

The tracks in Norway are in general quite populated and single track. So there are limits to how fast trains can go without catching up to slower cargo trains etc.

Congratulations for your excellent services 👏

I want to specifically thank a certain gentleman from the Vy norway bus costumer servise whom l unfortunately don't know his name, and the driver of the route VY 170 from Sogndal skysstasjon to Lærdal. They have my gratitude for handling a mater over lost property. They were very efficient in communication and went above and beyond to find and return my lost item. Congratulations on your excellent services 👏👏👏👏

I bought a bus ticket for only a one…

I bought a bus ticket for only a one hour ride.
During booking process there is the suggestion to choose a seat.

There is NO information that a seat selection is charged with 105 NOK.

I didn't see that the final amount has increased.

THIS IS FRAUD and a hidden fee. This is against European law and this company is scamming people. What a shame for Norway.

Hi, when choosing to pay for a special seat, it is clearly marked that this is for an extra cost.

It's not "against European law", as it is clearly marked in the app.

I visited Norway for the first time as…

I visited Norway for the first time as a tourist and bought several tickets on Vy.no and paid with PayPal.
I have an issue with one of the tickets (attached) that I haven't been able to use because the railway station information misled me.  The ticket mentioned the platform # and train directions and I arrived 5 minutes early (this is the minimum) to the platform as a general rule for all trains globally. The train to the airport arrived, and I followed the other passengers. When I was already on a train, I realized that it was another train that also departed from the same platform, also to the airport but just 2 minutes earlier and it was too late to get off the train and be back to the platform. I needed to buy another ticket for a different train, and I claimed a refund for this unused ticket, which has never been processed.
I am an experienced tourist who has traveled to over 80 countries, but I have never before seen two trains going in the same direction depart from the same platform under different rail companies. Honestly, it does not fit my logic in general.

I do not know your railway's rules well. I created the complaint and refund request, which have never been addressed. The response was very tourist-unfriendly, leaving me with no desire to use this service again.

Reply to VY's comment:
Thank you for your response. I understand that passengers are responsible for boarding the correct train. However, I think your response misses the actual issue.

I did not wait until the ticket had simply expired and then ask for a refund. I realized the mistake immediately after boarding the other train, after having arrived at the platform in advance, and I submitted my refund request at that time. The ticket was never used. I had to purchase another ticket for the train I actually travelled on, so I effectively paid twice for the same journey.

I have travelled to more than 100 countries and use public transportation extensively. I have genuinely never encountered a situation where two different railway services going to the same destination depart from the same platform within approximately five minutes of each other, with the distinction being particularly difficult for a first-time foreign visitor to understand.

I appreciate that this may be obvious to a local passenger familiar with the Norwegian railway system and the different operators. It was not obvious to me as a tourist, despite following the platform information and arriving before the train's departure.

This is precisely why I find the response particularly disappointing. Rather than acknowledging that the information and passenger experience can be confusing for international visitors, Vy has simply placed all responsibility on the customer. I felt effectively trapped by the system: I followed the platform information, boarded what appeared to be the appropriate airport-bound train, realized the mistake immediately, purchased another ticket, and still received no consideration for the completely unused original ticket.

I am not asking for a refund because I knowingly travelled on a different train and then changed my mind. I am asking for consideration for a ticket that was never used and for which I contacted Vy immediately after the mistake occurred.

For a country that receives a large number of international visitors, I believe this is an unnecessarily tourist-unfriendly approach to customer service. Unfortunately, this experience has left me with a very poor impression of Vy.

Hi and thanks for your feedback.

It feels a bit unfair to be honest. It's your responsibility to enter the correct train, and you can't expect us to refund a ticket after it has passed, because you used the wrong train.

In countries with several train companies, it's not uncommon with several trains heading in the same direction from the same platforms.

Our trains are not marked "airport" while the airport train is. So it should be possible to tell them apart.

We are sorry to hear that you won't visit again.

Do not buy tickets from this company. Its just a middleman and they will just scam your money. I got scammed 150€ when trying to buy tickets 6 months in advance and selected one day wrong. The customer service line will force expensive calls between Sweden and Norway country codes but will never actually refund you. In general, they treat their customers like irrelevant trash.

Hi, it's not easy to answer without any details about what this is about.

Your claims that we are "just a middleman and they will just scam your money" is simply not true.

All tickets on railroads have terms, and like most other travel (like air travel, ferries etc), low price tickets often are not refundable or changeable.

All our tickets come with ticket classes where you can both refund and/or change tickets before departure.

We do sell tickets for other railway companies, like SJ in Sweden, Go-Ahead Nordic and SJ Nord in Norway. These are sold under the terms the owner(s) of the tickets have put on them.

Our call centers are not "expensive" to call. We also have support on chat or e-mail, if you don't want to call.

As of May 3rd, the monthly ticket in sone 1 (Oslo) is actually lower. Prices are changed once a year, in tandem with the general price index of Norway. Last time in February 2026.

⭐ 1 Star

⭐ 1 Star – Very poor service and unacceptable customer support

My experience with Vy was extremely frustrating and disappointing.

The train was delayed, which directly caused me to miss my flight. As a passenger, I trusted the railway system to operate reliably, especially when travelling to an airport. Instead, I was left without clear information, without assistance, and without any real support when the delay occurred.

What is even more disappointing is Vy’s customer service afterwards. Rather than taking responsibility or showing understanding, I received a standard template response explaining policies and recommended arrival times. This completely ignores the fact that passengers depend on trains running according to schedule.

Customer service should focus on helping customers when problems happen — not on finding arguments to avoid responsibility. The communication felt impersonal, dismissive, and unwilling to properly investigate the situation.

A national railway company should provide reliability, accountability, and professional support. Unfortunately, my experience showed the opposite.

Because of this incident, I lost time, money, and confidence in Vy’s service. I cannot recommend travelling with Vy, especially when you have important connections such as flights.

Very disappointing experience.

Disappointing customer service and no understanding of circumstances

I had a train trip scheduled for the 8th of March at 7:06 pm. The train was delayed and, because I had a flight to catch, I had no choice but to take a car to the airport instead. Unfortunately, at the time I was trying to cancel the train ticket I had internet problems and couldn’t access the app.

As soon as my internet connection was back, I cancelled the trip through the app and also left a message explaining the situation. However, I later received an email saying that I was not entitled to any refund because the delay was less than 30 minutes and because the cancellation was made after the trip had already begun.

I contacted customer service again and explained clearly why I had to cancel and why the cancellation was done later than intended. Despite this, they kept repeating the same reasons and did not seem willing to consider the circumstances.

I believe this was a genuine case where some flexibility and understanding would have been appropriate. The experience left me quite disappointed with how the situation was handled.

Hi, and thanks for your feedback. We don't process cases submitted to us in public, so we can't comment on this particular case; we're afraid.

In general, it's the passengers responsibility to have access to to the web, cancel tickets in time etc.

We're happy to hear that you made your flight, despite the problems on the tracks this day.

One of the worst train companies

One of the worst train companies in Europe. Expensive, extremely unreliable, horrible customer service, and in general a shame for Norway. Writing this as I lost a third non-refundable dentist appointment because they cancelled my train with 1 minute notice.

Hi, on days like this, we always get 1-star reviews.

We do understand your frustration. The thing is: The problems today are not someting we have any control over.

Bane NOR, who owns all rail infrastructure in Norway – tracks, signals, power and stations – had a grounding error at the Central station.

When that happens, often all trains need to stop. This happened today for some minutes. Causing major delays and cancellations. It was fixed by Bane NOR with 20 someting minutes, but it always takes time before trains are back where they are supposed to be.

---

Vy is NOT "one of the worst train companies in Europe". Trains in Norway are in general on the upper part of the table. Countries like Switzerland, the Netherlands and Belgium have more reliable trains.

But our Norwegian trains are more reliable than countries like Denmark, Germany, Austria and Italy.

---

You do not mention why our customer service is bad? What exactly happened? Without more information, it's hard to answer.

Irresponsible, unreliable Vy App and unpredictable

A few months ago, we purchased Vy Buss tickets online and were mandated to use Vy app, claiming it would show the most updated information. Now in February, we are travelling in Norway. We bought Vy Buss tickets from Flam to Voss, indicating "16.35" pick up time on the Vy app. Upon arriving at Flam, we double checked the app and it was still the same (16.35). We went to the receptionist at the bus station to double check. A receptionist there told us they could not help check, but pointed to us the Vy Buss pick up point. We went to the bus stop before the time and waited until we found out that the bus station office was going to be closed and public transport already stopped. We asked the receptionists (who said everyone was leaving; the office was closed) what we could do to get to Voss and they suggested the only way was by taxi, which cost 2000 NOK. We had no choice, but hired a taxi and eventually, managed to get to our guesthouse in Evanger. The next day, the host helped us by calling Vy Buss office. To our surprise, we just learned that the schedule had been changed to "15.10" since "January" (but not updating the schedule on the real time app in February!!! ). They said it's my fault not checking the email. It's true I was not aware of the mail.
He also claimed that Vy Buss sent me a message via phone which I was not aware of, either. But even if I had seen the changed schedule in January, couldn't it have been changed again during this one month time for their unpredictable schedules? The real time Vy app showed 16.35, and not 15.10 !!! How could this happen? If a traveller travelling with Vy Buss cannot trust the Vy app, why bother using the Vy Buss service?

Apparently, the mistakes were made by poor Vy Buss management, not updating the app. And when facing immediate problems, chatbot customer service could not answer the problems. Moreover, the staff at the bus station belongs to a different company, not Vy Buss. They would not (or could not) contact Vy Buss and it was not their job.

We wrote a complaint to Vy Buss and Mr. Martin, Vy Buss officer, refused to take any responsibility. Neither taxi fare (a lot of extra money for us) nor the missed bus fair was compensated. Truely unpredictable, irresponsible, and poor service Vy Buss has!!!
...........

UPDATE 30 March 2026:

I reject the claim that this was a 'missed notification.' Your official Vy App displayed a 16:35 departure on the day of travel and later changed to 'Completed'—despite the bus never arriving. I followed the App's live data and direct instructions from your station staff. Shifting the blame for a technical failure onto the customer is unacceptable. I am seeking a full refund for my unused ticket and taxi costs via the NRF.

Very bad service in Alesund

Very bad service in Alesund. Busdrivers seems to be very tired under driving and even sleepy.
Little bit funny story here, actualy. Cause one day i decided to book a bolt cab, and guess what. The driver, with a uniform on of a busdriver, came to pick me up. I asked what is going on, shouldnt u take free after long shift of driving buss. According to him its no control about working hours in Alesund at all. So most of busdrivers work to shifts both on bus and cabs around 20 hours per day at least.
Im from Poland and work on shipyards nearby Alesund, so i used Vybuss quiet often, at least before. No more Vybuss or cabs for me. Using now just a rental car.
Still trying to find out the name of one driver , of an african origin, who was extremly aggresive on my complain about him and his driving style on speed bumps. He use to drive route nr 1 and 3.
Have a nice day.

ty travel Norway

This company could probably be improved by respecting its customer base previous reviews suggest this has not been the case for others and was not relating too our experience. Booked from Oslo to Flam on the 12.05 on 16th October 2025. 10 minutes from station problems with train caused a return to Oslo station. On return we were advised that the train could be repaired by 15.30 hopefully. Or we could get the 2.25 from. As we had a change to pick up at Merdyl we took this option. Big mistake. No real information shared, no information as to seating. Boarded rain to find thevhad separated us into different parts of the carriage, the seats were old and very uncomfortable for a 5 hour journey. Carriages were poorly aired and the atmosphere was shiffling and overwhelming. There was no place to secure cases safely and crews were not aware of changes. The company did not empower their staff byg giving them information about further travel or refunds and compensation rega4ding missed connections and lost bookings. I have another 2 trips booked and paid for with this company and quite frankly I am dreading them. Would not recommend their service at all
