It started off great, then really raised the cost of leads for service providers. For instance a "lead" cost $120 for a $400 job (if a client will even pay that), that is for every service provider th... See more

I’ve been using Thumbtack for a while, and unfortunately the quality of the leads has gotten much worse. Lately I’m paying for leads where clients never respond at all, even when I reply within minutes. Many of these leads are also sent to several professionals at the same time, so you can easily spend a lot of money without ever getting a real conversation with the customer.
It used to be a useful platform for my business, but now it feels like I’m mostly paying for dead or low-quality leads. The refund system doesn’t make it much better either. I really hope Thumbtack changes how they charge professionals and improves the quality of their leads.

We went through Thumbtack (through Lowes) because it was convenient. We had to cancel our first appointment because of a scheduling conflict on our end...
The Pro we were reassigned with never showed. When I signed into the app, his account had gone gray, and when I called the company, they told me there was a problem with his account. They asked if I wanted someone else, I obviously said YES.
It took another week to schedule someone. The Pro showed, examined the job, and said he was not equipped to complete it, but that he would have someone call within the hour to confirm a better date and time where he could finish with the right tools. No one called.
I reached out a few hours later. Thumbtack explained to me that the Pro was not answering, but also said they would reschedule for a date the following week.
We are now a month in. Date arrives... and no one has contacted me, or sent an email, or updated through the mobile app. The two stars reflects only the professional demeanor of the representatives, who were kind and offered sympathy.
This was a massive waste of time and a pretty big headache since the job involved plumbing that was interrupted the whole time we waited.

Thumbtack does not qualify their pros . Cannot tell you if a company is legitimate or not until you accept the job . May be too late . Like in my case , TopRail Fence never finished my backyard fence . What they did finish it’s damaged and they took off with $5500 of my senior retirement money . Top Rail could care less !!!And neither does Thumtack .

Worked off this platform for a few years, did about 150 jobs. Just know they dont care about nor do they defend the gig workers. all they care about is money and that means taking customers side no matter what. i have several customers not pay and each time they sent me letters sayong they could not get it in. But soon as a customer files complaint on me they deactivate my account. the lead prices are crazy also. $100 to give a $75 quote to a customer who aint even ready to get work done. just be careful, i dont see this app lasting long.

Do not use their services. They will scam you out of your money. You will receive requests for service that you are not qualified for and then they will charge you whether you want it or not, and won't refund you, but give you a credit for their services. It's a scam

They platform scammers, beware. Paid for a job that never got finished, the company double charged and did damage to the property. Had to pay another guy to come fix what the contractor broke. Thumbtack refused to refund or even give the transcripts of the guy giving us the run around on the phone (so we can press charges). AZ plumbing company in Nashville was the company. Never using thumbtack again and I advise anyone looking into using it in the future to look for more reputable business elsewhere.

I wish i had seen these reviews prior to contracting someone to assemble a simple bed and removing one piece of furniture. As i believe there must be someone honest in this platform, it seems these are foreign workers, illegals, no experience whatsoever on what they are doing, no language skills. Then, like many other reviewers, my best started to fall apart ( he forgot parts, assembly instructions and parts right in front of him) found all kinds of excuses not to dispose the mattress. Thumbtack needs to take account for the people they allow in their platform. I will never ever again hire anyone from this place. Bunch of people trying to make a few bucks but have no clue what they are doing. I lost my money, and still have to find someone to fix the bed and dispose the mattress ( oh and, because im a very generous person, i even gave this guy more than what he was asking, out of ny good heart, then after paid and assuming he assembled the bed correctly, he started to come up with excuses not to dispose the mattress) absolutely horrible!

Thumbtack used to be great! As a professional who's been on it for over 10 years and Platinum status every year. I can assure you the platform is no longer any good. A few years back they switched up how things are being done giving out customers phone numbers to professionals leaving only the sharks and not the good companies to get the job. I still currently have the highest reviews and the most reviews in my entire state. The amount the leads have gone up in price and the poor policies on licensing background check and insurance are a joke! Something to add to lead pricing is you can no longer pick your price you have a little slider bar from min to Max not allowing you to decide the actual minimum. In many cases the minimum is the amount of profit I would typically make from the job not to mention you'd have to get 100% of the leads to what, work for free?
From the customer side you're no longer getting the best professional, you're getting the most tactful salesperson, the most desperate contractor.
Refund? Ha good luck. I've gotten dozens of junk leads not even close to being in the correct industry and not gotten a refund.

I've been using thumbtack as a professional for the past 4 years. Whilst it was ok in the beginning, now it just feels like a cash grab. Poor leads, mismatched expectations, high lead costs, ridiculous refund policy.
Not recommended.

Called several days wanting to set a date for a very easy project… hang 3 curtain rods . Ten minutes before expected arrival… texted asking if we could move the time back 2 hours. Terrible. Terrible.

I was a Thumbtack customer for years and got great service from a number of projects for a long time. Things have gone downhill. My last few projects I have had bad experiences. Three non-English-speakers showed up to provide quotes using an iPhone to translate. One made an appointment to provide a quote and, days later, told me that he lives a long way from us so there would be a charge to come give us a quote and got really snotty when I told him I didn't want to pay for a quote. An electrician installed a light switch in my son's room that also turned the electricity on/off in my wife's office and wired a driveway heater that stayed on in the summer until we got a $1,200 electric bill. I met many good professionals on Thumbtack back in the day, but it has gone from 90% good service to 90% bad.

They are thieves they even split their platform into multiple ones so it’s harder for people to leave them. Bad reviews do not do business with them. They wasted thousands of my money until I realize they are not worth it.

I scheduled a moving job with CM Moving Company for 2:00 today, August 1, 2026. I got to the house early this morning to make sure that everything was ready for them when they got there. I realized that they were 20 minutes late, so I sent them a text asking where they were. They responded to me that they would be at my house at 6:00pm. Not 2:00pm. I was upset, but I was there so I just waited. About 5:20 I received a text from the movers that they would not be able to make it to me today because they were still working on the previous job. I realized that they bumped my job completely because they had a bigger job come up that they could make more money but did not bother to tell me. They feel like they did nothing wrong. I feel like they should have been honest with me so I did not waste my entire Saturday waiting for them to come move my furniture. They sent me a text on Friday that they were available that whole day, but I was not available on Friday.

I just got off the phone with an irate manager because I was waiting on other estimates to come in prior to making my decision. He wanted me to give them a second chance if their bid came too high based on all three quotes I was getting. I told him no, because you’re supposed to sharpen your pencil and give us your best price up front, not keep going around and around until they agree to change the least amount. It’s not ethical to call a possible client to harass them into letting them do better with price. He got upset with me, and I told him I am not paying to argue with him about his pricing. He ended up hanging up on me, because I obviously don’t know anything about having a construction business. I have to say I know enough to know that you lose customers by getting upset with them. And that’s exactly what the manager in Grants Pass Oregon is doing. I actually liked the two people that they sent out, but I don’t think it’s appropriate to go after a client by badgering them. Get a grip management! Your running people away!

Squeaky Clean cleaned my home meticulously. The entire house was perfect from bedroom, bathroom kitchen and dining room. I had 2 companies prior to these ladies and nothing came close to them. I highly recommend them for their services. Must try them you won’t regret it

No transparency from Thumbtack to the customers. Ive asked every customer Ive gotten through Thumbtack if they knew they charged just for messaging or choosing a company to hire. For that reason you get poor leads and customers who arent serious about getting work done. It promotes wasting companies time and money that could be used elsewhere. Might as well grab that money and burn it in a barrel.

Thumbtack is a rip off!! Seriously! They allow the client to pick 6 pros which each one gets charge $38-$48 dollars to maybe just maybe one get selected for the job. If thumbtack was reasonable they would split the $40 into the 6 pros, but no they have to charge every pro the same. I really hope someone comes out with a more reasonable app to get leads. Can’t wait to leave thumbtack!!!

I've hired two supposedly professionals from this site.
I'm currently searching Angie for a professional to fix the mistakes of the two so-called professionals that I hired from thumbtack. Clearly they do not vet whoever they put on their site. Never again.
