English version

HBO Max: great tennis rights, disappointing sports experience

I subscribed to HBO Max mainly to follow Roland Garros and tennis, since there was no other way to watch this tournament.
Live matches and full match replays are fairly easy to find, but the rest of the sports experience has been quite disappointing.

The highlights section is poorly organized and often almost impossible to navigate. It is very difficult to quickly find match highlights, post-match interviews, analysis, or additional tennis content that fans normally expect to access easily.

Even the “See Full Schedule” section feels confusing: there are many similar-looking icons with no clear distinction between contents, so users have to open them one by one just to understand what is inside. In many cases, highlights are simply missing.

If HBO Max chooses to acquire the rights for a major event like Roland Garros, it should also be able to provide a sports platform worthy of such an event.
I specifically paid for a subscription to follow the tournament, but compared to more experienced sports services, the user experience feels far below expectations, especially when trying to access the most useful and requested content.

I am not writing this review out of anger, but in the hope that the experience can be improved for people who genuinely love following tennis.

HBO's Multi View Spectacle

Dear Team Trustpilot,

Please kindly extend my best wishes and compliments to TNT Sports and HBO Max, for the multi view coverage of the ongoing Roland Garros Tennis Tournament. It is such a spectacle watching four matches simultaneously. This is taking TV viewing to the next level.

It will be great to see TNT Sports and HBO Max replicate this same gesture at the forthcoming FIFA World Cup. It would be remarkable to watch four football matches at one go, especially during the group stages.

The only game I may refrain from watching in multi view mode may be the Three Lions of England and some African soccer teams.

Great job TNT Sports and HBO Max.

Payment

Today I wanted to subscribe to the sports package to watch Roland Garros, but I couldn’t because I’m subscribed to the basic plan via Google Play, which no longer accepts payments for HBO.
HBO support’s suggestion: I have to open a new account with a different email address, buy a new subscription and ask Google to refund my previous subscription!!!
I’ve asked Google for a refund and am waiting for a reply, but for Roland Garros I’ve subscribed to another platform.
Never again.

Everything is unavailable

I got the basic subscription. I wanted to cancel it straight away. Virtually everything is "unavailable with your current subscription"
Wish I never bothered because they are making it difficult to get a refund. And, I never even started to watch a single thing on the app.

Inappropriate advert placement

The adverts are placed right in the middle of the programme and when the programme resumes you have missed a couple of minutes. They can’t seem to add the adverts at an appropriate time hence part of the programme is missed and one has to guess what has happened! Most annoying. Not impressed at all !

Adverts for their Sports packages on…

Adverts for their Sports packages on Standard without Ads plan.

Had a basic membership, was getting really annoyed with the many adverts so payed for the standard without ads £9.99 month.

Watching the Sopranos late at night and when an episode finished they immediately played a loud advert for their sports packages.

Got to say I was shocked by this and it killed my relaxation, I was just drifting off to sleep.

I am fully aware of HBO sport packages, there are banners all over the Home Screen, I don’t need loud adverts about it immediately after a show. It was perceivably a lot louder than the show that just played, I would have thought a double subscription would be enough but apparently not.

I will be cancelling my Subscription and buying DVD’s of the Sopranos.

Fully charged, no service.

I was charged for a subscription but never received access to the service. The payment was fully deducted from my bank, but on their side it remained “unfulfilled,” so the subscription was never activated.
I contacted support multiple times and was repeatedly asked to wait, then asked to provide partial card details over chat, which I was not comfortable doing.
I even suggested a workaround (temporary activation while the payment issue was resolved), but this was refused.
Eventually, support confirmed that no subscription had been activated and advised me to request a chargeback through my bank.
This seems to be a known issue based on other reviews. While the support agents were polite, the system itself failed and there was no real solution offered.
I would recommend caution when subscribing, as payments may be taken without the service being provided.

Worst streaming site there is

Worst streaming site there is. All the money and greed but they wont put a penny to make the service better. It keeps lagging, sometimes stopping constantly. Also the audio is off synch. The subtitles and speech has huge delay. It also has the worst shows and movies. Literally zero good classic movies. And they removed doom patrol. I wish all the bad things to this company. I wont be paying for this shit no more

Ripping off customers of TNT Sport

My 92 year old father's subscription to TNT sport in the UK moved from Discovery+ to HBO Max on 26th March. It was impossible to download any app for HBO Max before this date on any platform, which was intensely frustrating as it prevented a seamless switch over.
On 26th March it got worse. TNT Sport stopped working on Discovery+. The HBO Max app appeared on Google Play. Unfortunately my father's TV is a Fire TV not Google and the app was nowhere to be found in the app library meaning he is now paying for a service he cannot access. I spent two fruitless hours trying every possible avenue to no avail. The app is simply not available on my father's Toshiba TV. I have no idea why.
The HBO website suggest that you use a chromecast but my father doesn't have one and they have been discontinued. In any case it should not be up to him to spend money unneccesarily because TNT Sport and HBO have done some kind of deal.
In my opinion this is a very good reason not to touch HBO (or TNT Sport) with a bargepole. They will take your money then fail to provide you with what you have paid for.
