Ils vous soutirent de l’argent avec une assurance complémentaire « obligatoire », vous fournissent une voiture médiocre en très mauvais état, avec 330 000 km au compteur, le voyant moteur orange allumé, des fards qui fonctionnent à peine, s’éteignent sur la route, des bruits inhabituels lors de la conduite et j’en passe.
Des escrocs comme vous en croiserez peu dans votre vie.
En plus ils en sont fiers.
Lorsque vous leur dites que ce sont des arnaqueurs, que la voiture est dangereuse de par sa vétusté, ils en rigolent ouvertement devant vous, parlent en Albanais en ricanant.
Lorsque nous avons rendu la voiture, ils nous ont posé des questions orientées très spécifiques afin d’essayer de nous garder la caution.
En lisant les autres commentaires, j’ai vite compris que d’autres personnes ont malheureusement vécu des situations très similaires à la nôtre.
Ça nous a en partie gâché nos vacances…

Booked a fairly big SUV and got a tiny Opel. Including the hidden fees we ended up paying more for the tiny-car than we were suppose to pay for the SUV. The car smelled like cat-piss. We didn't find a dead racoon inside, but it must have been there well hidden. (Periode: 25.08-05.09 2026)

PS: all other services in Albania exceeded our expectation. From gas pump- and supermarket staff to restaurant waiters 9-10 out of 10 points.

Als je overweegt om bij City Rent een auto te huren: doe het niet. Onze ervaring was verschrikkelijk en wij willen andere mensen hiervoor waarschuwen.

5 MINUTEN NA HET OPHALEN VAN DE AUTO kregen we al een waarschuwing voor de bandenspanning. Tijdens onze vakantie hebben we de banden 3 à 4 keer moeten laten oppompen. We hebben hiervan foto’s, video’s en betalingsbewijzen. We hebben zelfs ongeveer 4 uur met een brandende bandenspanningswaarschuwing moeten rijden. Bergop kon de auto nauwelijks vooruit en op sommige momenten konden we niet sneller dan 40 km/u. Dit was absoluut geen veilige situatie.

Vervolgens werden wij door een scooter aangereden. De scooterbestuurder reed daarna gewoon weg. Wij waren niet in fout. We hebben camerabeelden waarop dit duidelijk te zien is en hebben deze beelden aan City Rent bezorgd.

De politie gaf ons gelijk. De politie heeft bovendien met City Rent gesproken. Ook hiervan hebben wij bewijs.

Toch probeerde City Rent ons vervolgens €250 te laten betalen. Hun uitleg? De persoon die ons had aangereden was een “unauthorized person” en daarom zouden wij niet verzekerd zijn.

Hoe kan een persoon die met zijn EIGEN scooter tegen onze huurauto rijdt en vervolgens wegvlucht, worden beschouwd als iemand die onze huurauto bestuurde? Wij waren zelf de bevoegde bestuurders van de auto. Wij hebben de auto nooit aan iemand anders gegeven.

Wij hadden bovendien City Protect Full betaald. Wij hebben gevraagd waar in ons contract staat dat wij in deze situatie €250 moeten betalen. Daarop kregen wij geen duidelijke contractuele basis voor deze kost.

Wij hebben daarom geweigerd om ook maar één euro van die €250 te betalen.

Vervolgens werd er bij het inleveren van de auto zelfs gedreigd met de politie. Wij zeiden letterlijk: “Bel de politie maar.” Wij hadden niets te verbergen en hadden onze camerabeelden en andere bewijzen bij ons.

En toen gebeurde er iets wat wij absoluut niet normaal vinden:

Plots moesten wij de €250 niet meer betalen, MAAR moesten wij in ruil daarvoor een 5-STERRENREVIEW op Google plaatsen.

Ja, je leest het goed. Een betwiste €250-kost werd gekoppeld aan een 5-sterrenreview.

De medewerker wilde de review zelfs zelf via onze telefoons plaatsen. Onze vlucht stond op het punt te vertrekken en onze grote bagage was al ingecheckt. Wij wilden gewoon zo snel mogelijk weg en hebben daarom toegestemd.

Onze eerdere 5-sterrenreview was dus absoluut geen eerlijke weerspiegeling van onze ervaring.

Wij vinden dit bijzonder ernstig. Een klant onder druk zetten om een positieve review te plaatsen in verband met een betwiste betaling vinden wij absoluut niet professioneel.

Wij hebben alles bewaard: foto’s, video’s, camerabeelden van het ongeval, betalingsbewijzen, communicatie, contracten, verzekeringsdocumenten en bewijs van de communicatie met de politie.

We hebben een klacht ingediend en juridische hulp ingeschakeld. Wij zullen dit verder opvolgen.

Dus nogmaals: HIER GEEN AUTO HUREN.

Laat je niet misleiden door mooie praatjes of positieve reviews. Controleer alles zelf, maak foto’s en video’s van de auto, controleer de banden, lees je verzekering volledig en bewaar ieder bewijs.

Wij zijn uiteindelijk zonder de €250 vertrokken, maar alleen nadat wij voet bij stuk hielden.

Wij zouden City Rent nooit meer gebruiken en raden iedereen die een auto wil huren in Albanië aan om een ander verhuurbedrijf te kiezen.

Everything mentioned in previous reviews applies to us as well. They are people who do not honor agreements and try to scam customers. DO NOT RENT A CAR THERE!!
What we had not taken into account was that they accused us of having lost car documents and wanted to withhold our deposit for it. Take photos of this beforehand.

WARNING: Defective vehicle, forced cash payments, and 2-hour wait
​Unacceptable experience with City Rent:
​Safety Hazard: Instead of the booked category, I was given a Ford Mondeo with 268,651 km. Brake Assist and ESP warning lights were lit on the dashboard upon handover (photo proof attached).
​Forced Cash Payments: No card reader was available. I was forced to pay €154 in cash for extra insurance to get the keys.
​Unscheduled Fees: Demanded an additional €10 in cash upfront for cleaning, threatening a penalty fee upon return.
​Service Delay: 2 hours of waiting on-site to collect the keys.
​Putting customers on the road in a defective car is a severe safety risk.

Huur hier geen auto! De slechtste ervaring ooit voor een auto bedrijf

Terrible, never again. Not the car we booked (manual, not automatic). The ac didn't work and with the returning of the car they told us there were new scratches on it, that wasn't true but they charged our creditcard for the "damage".

Albania is a beautiful country, but this rental company made our trip far more stressful than it should have been.
We received the vehicle we had booked, but it was dirty, damaged, and had several issues, including a faulty air conditioning system, poor maintenance, and very low power on steep roads. We even lost an entire day of our holiday taking the car to a garage to fix problems that should have been identified before it was rented out.
We also witnessed similar situations involving other customers, which left us with little confidence in how these issues are managed.
Be very careful when renting from this company. In the summer heat and on Albania’s roads, a vehicle that is not in proper condition can turn a dream holiday into a nightmare. Without a doubt, the worst car rental experience we have ever had.

Very disappointing experience
We booked a manual car because I cannot drive an automatic. When we arrived in Tirana, we had to wait around one hour, even though we had already paid. They kept telling us “the car is there” or “it’s at the car wash”, and then suddenly told us they would give us a different car. At first, they gave us an automatic, even though we had clearly booked a manual. Eventually, we received a manual car with almost 400,000 km.
What is frustrating is that their contract says customers have to pay €50 if they are one hour late, yet we had to wait an hour ourselves. We even saw other customers waiting up to two hours for their cars.
We also saw other customers receiving random cars that were not properly maintained, including one car with non-working rear lights. You pay for a rental car, but are given a vehicle that is not even fully functional?
The contract also stated that airport pickup was included, but after arriving we were told to walk 9 minutes to meet them. This is not convenient for families with children, elderly people or people with heavy luggage.
There was also confusion about the payments, despite us already paying a deposit.
Overall, it felt like they expect customers to follow every rule in the contract, while they themselves do not respect the agreements. Very disappointing experience. I would not recommend renting from them.

1 star is really still too much for these scammers! Upon arrival, we had to wait 2 hours in the heat to get a car that was nothing like what we had booked (manual instead of automatic). If we absolutely wanted an automatic, we would just have to wait a few more hours. Eventually, after a lot of complaining (there were other people with the same problem), they said they would come to swap the car the next afternoon. So we adjusted our schedule and waited at the hotel all afternoon. Until a message came that they would only come 2 days later. We weren't happy about this because the next day we wanted to go further into the mountains. After back-and-forth complaining, they finally had an automatic, but they could only bring it in the evening. So we had to factor in the timing again. This time they did come, fortunately, but with a very old car and 290,000 kilometers on the odometer. The car was already scratched up and the ceiling was completely hanging down, which was especially unpleasant for our oldest son because it was hanging against him. BThe air conditioning wasn't working very well right from the start, and of course, three days later it completely stopped. It cost us hours of our vacation again. Returning the carwas even more fun. They saw new scratches. I showed them the photos proving they were already there, but no, apparently that wasn't true, it was just a reflection. More hassle, but they were still going to charge 850 euros to our credit card. What a scammers, never again!!

Wir haben über Holiday Check einen Mietwagen für unsere Albanien Reise gebucht. Der versprochene Transfer vom Flughafen fand nicht statt. Nach einem anstrengenden Fußmarsch mit 2 Kindern und jede Menge Gepäck haben wir die Station erreicht. Ein Schotterplatz mit einem Wohnwagen als Büro. Nach einer Stunde Wartezeit hat man uns mitgeteilt, das das bestellte Fahrzeug nicht zur Verfügung steht - dafür ein BMW- 320000 km und das Navi geht leider nicht. Nach unserer Abfahrt vom Gelände mussten wir feststellen, das er auch eine. Getriebeschaden und Motorprobleme hat. Am 3. Tag unserer Rundreise blieben wir mitten im Gebirge liegen - fehlende Kühlflüssigkeit. Vermieter telefonisch nicht erreichbar. Wir schleppten uns zur nächsten Werkstatt,wo uns geholfen wurde - auf unsere Kosten. Am 4. Tag viel die Batterie aus- erneut Pannenhilfe auf unsere Kosten. Bei der Abgabe des Fahrzeugs wurden die Mängel arrogant ignoriert. Unbedingt wo anders mieten!!

Oszuści, za małe zarysowanie upierają się że trzeba wymienić cały bok samochodu i domagają się ponad 1000 euro (chciałbym zaznaczyć że auto było porysowane po praktycznie każdej ze stron). Nie wspominam już o tym że na zdjęciach wypożyczalnia ukazana jest jako poważna firma a w praktyce jest to przyczepa campingowa. Domagają się zapłaty za takie rzeczy jak mycie auta (sami dostaliśmy brudne w środku) pod groźbą dopłaty 20euro. omijać szerokim łukiem

Onze ervaring was erg slecht. Via Skyscanner een auto besteld in de veronderstelling dat alles OK is.
Ik kan hier een uitgebreid verhaal typen, maar ik wil vooral nieuwe "klanten" waarschuwen:
Waarschijnlijk zit je deze review te lezen in de brandende zon om na te gaan waar je nou precies aan bent begonnen (je bent niet de enige).
Ze laten je niet voor niks zo lang wachten, ze hopen dat je zo wanhopig wordt dat je alles betaald:
Optie 1 (niet doen!): € 1.500 deposit betalen via creditcard, zodat enige schade kan worden verhaald.
Optie 2 (wel doen): Nog een aanvullende verzekering afsluiten. Tip: de pinautomaat werkt zeker wel, als je aangeeft dat je geen cash hebt. Zeg ook dat je het bedrag erg hoog vindt, ze geven uiteindelijk "korting".
Tip 2: Als je een afgetrapte bak (ex-taxi met 300+ km op de teller) hebt gekregen zoals wij, blijven bellen dat je een normale auto wilt hebben. Appen kan ook, maak ook een screenshot dat alles OK is. Wij kregen uiteindelijk een Opel Corsa met 18k op de teller.
Optie 3: Neem je verlies van het vooraf boeken en ga ergens ander huren (dit hebben wij serieus overwogen).

Waarschijnlijk heb je dit vooraf geboekt zoals wij hebben gedaan. Zij hebben alle tijd, jij hebt enkel je vakantiedagen en dat weten ze.

Wij hadden het geluk 2 dagen in Tirana te zijn zodat we een normale auto konden regelen. Anders had ik de voorafbetaling voor lief genomen en bij Europcar of Avis een auto geregeld.

Als je die tijd niet hebt, zou ik ECHT meteen weggaan en naar een normale verhuur gaan.

Personale indisponente e pressante
Volevano facessimo un'assicurazione aggiuntiva malgrado l' avessimo già acquistata online, abbiamo quindi lasciato la cauzione di € 1.500,00 con carta di credito
Auto vecchia, sporca e
tergicristalli non funzionanti
Il peggio è arrivato alla riconsegna, hanno contestato alcune righe inesistenti, meno male che al ritiro avevamo fatto in video quindi sono passati a contestare la pulizia dell'auto, malgrado fosse meglio di quando ce l'hanno noleggiata, minacciando l'addebito di 20,00€ .
Abbiamo quindi provveduto a lavarla presso un lavaggio auto lì vicino per la modica cifra di 6,00€!!
Non contenti, hanno inventato una multa, prima di parcheggio poi di eccesso di velocità in una zona da cui non eravamo neanche transitati.
Dopo infinite discussioni, pur sapendo si trattasse di una truffa ma, considerato che dovevamo essere in aeroporto di lì a poco, abbiamo acconsentito a pagare € 16,00.
Avessimo avuto più tempo avremmo chiamato la polizia ma non potevamo certamente perdere l'aereo, e questo loro lo sanno, per questo fanno pressioni esagerate alla riconsegna.
Quindi consiglio di NON noleggiare qui anche se i prezzi possono sembrare più favorevoli.

We hired a car from this company (which operates under a few different names - United, for example) for 2 weeks at the beginning of July, so just a week back since we arrived home. BIG MISTAKE!

This was a long saga, so here are the high(lo)lights:

1) They operate out of a caravan on a run-down lot along a dirt track road 10 minutes’ walk from the airport - nothing like the website or social media at all!!!
2) Didn’t have the car we booked, or anything like it
3) Tried to push us into an end-of-life, sub-standard ex-taxi which was bright yellow and had over 330,000km on the clock!
4) Let us leave without proper insurance cover on first night in the disgusting yellow bus
5) Invented an out of hours fee not disclosed in the paperwork, which was caused by their mistake and delay
6) Forced upsale to full insurance (at least we didn’t have to leave a credit card deposit) on a more suitable car. Negotiated a small inconvenience discount but was still overcharged
7) Tried to rip us off with a fake parking ticket con when we returned the car.
8) I note they have recently added a bunch of fake positive reviews online to boost their extremely bad name - business must be slow!
9) Absolute gangsters, don’t go near them!

They all go by different names but are all the same crooks. Their ‘card not working’ excuse seems to be the trade mark to not only take your cash but also avoid paying taxes. They would find any excuse on earth the steal your money, starting from hard push insurance, to damage to tyres, windscreen wipers and god knows what else which are according to them not covered by insurance, so they would charge additional costs even though you have insurance. They are located 15 minutes walk from the airport and based in a caravan with blinds pulled down and from where a girl and a boy would eventually come out to ‘attend you’. The whole experience from start to the end was dodgy and unbelievable. Is a shame as we had a great time in Albania but this completely blew our mind how is possible this people run a business like this. They should not be in business, they should be in prison!!

I wish I had realised this company was a scam. They will find a way to get you - and are the worst. We avoided their initial attempts to charge extra - but we realised right from the start it was going to be a nightmare. Tried to charge us their insurance, prepay their car wash and everything under the sun. Also made out our card didnt work (that our travel insurance was thru). The first car they gave had warning lights for airbags and engine - an old taxi in a poor condition. We got another car (after much debate) which was a little better - and closer to what our booking actually promised. We returned the car 2 hours early, as anticpated they would find a way to charge us 'extras'. We had already filled the car up (way more than what they provided), washed the car 10 mins up the road and did everything right. They said it was $1000 euros for driving 'offroad' what ever that means here ..... do not use them or a parent car rental car who uses them
