Carfax won't honor their buyback guarantee. They say a motor vehicle dept. can be notified of a total loss by insurance, but it doesn’t always yield a branded title immediately. A Total Loss record is... See more

Poor service, errors, and unresolved issues with CARFAX report
I paid for a CARFAX Report when I put my vehicle for Sale. They had incorrect mileage for one of the service appointments so I created a ticket to have it resolved. It took weeks to get a response, with each response afterwards taking days to hear back. Theu claimed it was a mistake by the service provider and that I would have to have them provide a written statement/correction. When I called the service depot they sent me the statements and they had never reported the incorrect number, it was an issue on CARFAX side. Upon providing that info CARFAX advised me it would be corrected within a few business days. It never got corrected and cost me multiple sales opportunities due to the mileage discrepancy.
Impossible to correct errors
Carfax has a error on our cars report. They show there was damage to the car. I emailed customer support (because they don't actually talk to anyone) and told them there is an error on the report. They asked ME to send them proof of no damage....HELLO.... what proof would I have if there is no damage. They refuse to send any information that was reported to them. So how can I contact the source to correct the error if they won't share any information???????????
Carfax is meaningless
We bought a car from a high end car dealer in the Chicago area. The Carfax showed the car had been in a minor accident with cosmetic damage. After purchasing the car, it malfunctioned on the drive home. Turns out the car had been in a serious accident and parts of the car had little just been glued back together with caulk. Contacted the dealer and they wouldn’t honor a repair, but that’s another review. Reached out to Carfax to ask about the discrepancy, and they simply said they can’t verify their reports. Basically, their reports are meaningless. Yes, it will contain information if owners/shop have been honest. But it’s the scams that you need to know about, and Carfax is meaningless for this.
Incorrect mileage report CarFax will not fix
I ran a CarFax report for a used car I was selling. I noticed two entries where the odometer reading in Carfax records were obviously incorrect. One entry showed the mileage jumped 111126 in just a few months! They are telling me that I have to go back to the states involved to ask them to correct their records. Well, I didn’t own the car when these Carfax errors occurred! In my opinion, this is why CarFax reports are unreliable & could contain misleading records & They don’t seem to care about fixing obvious errors.
I’m taking my business to Auto Check.
Super Misleading Pricing
The price range for offers that I was given was nowhere near the price offered to me when I went into the dealer. Lowest offered zone was $8,600 and dealer said they couldn’t do more than $5000. A total waste of time don’t even bother using them to sell your car.
Don't waste your money I spent $45 I…
Don't waste your money I spent $45 I had already gotten a different one from a different place the Carfax was missing tons of information including the fact the car was used as a fleet vehicle the service records were not even near complete there was no report of hail damage even though it was reported elsewhere again don't waste your money you're getting a half Baked report for almost $50 and when I complained about it they just basically said we're not refunding it. Report them everywhere and leave reviews if you've had a negative experience people need to know it's a big giant. I paid $1.95 and another company and got a much more complete report lol again beware beware
Complete joke of a history report.
We just pulled a completely clean report on a fresh trade-in, only for a physical inspection to show a deployed airbag and severe unibody damage missed from an old auction. This overpriced garbage is giving my sales floor a false sense of security while completely missing critical accident and repair data. Stop charging us premium rates for incomplete records that leave us holding the bag on bogus inventory.
I went with my guy to get a car from…
I went with my guy to get a car from carfax in melrose park. They sold him a bogus truck that needs sooo many repairs. They told him he had 30 days to bring it in under warranty now they have had the truck for longer then he had the truck lol. He only had it for 2 weeks they have had it for a month and some and keep saying it needs more work done. Meaning the truck obviously should not have been sold if it had soo many issues. This has been the worst experience I have witnessed someone go through buying a car. I would NEVER go to them because obviously are they cars are bogus!

CarFax is a crappy
CarFax is a crappy, overpriced experience that creates a false sense of security by advertising itself as knowledgeable, resourceful, and trustworthy, but its reports are not useful, and it advertises dealers that are not trustworthy. We recently purchased a car from a CarFax 5-star dealer, and that couldn't be further from the truth. Even after reading reviews on CarFax, Kelly Blue Book, and doing a thorough inspection, the car immediately had problems. The dealer seems to be in the habit knowling of selling bad cars to the public.
Totally worthless
Totally worthless. 2001 BMW purchased in 2094 showed no airbag deployed . 2026 shows airbag deployed 2002. Don’t trust CARFAX !!
Not for me.
Called gave a description of vehicle make, model, millage, service history etc. Was sent a estimate of $12,300 ok low but similar cars selling for $13.5k to $15k. Asks me to send photos so I can get best price. Sent photos, (not a scratch on car) calls me back 2 days later, tells me $9,000. What a total waste of time, sorry not for me.
Incomplete information incomplete…
Incomplete information incomplete service records.i don't understand why we would need a carfax report if it's not the correct information,as Trump would say fake news.
NEVER again Carfax!
I ordered a report on a car because the Carfax website showed me "RISK HAS BEEN IDENTIFIED" for that car. When I PAID and received the report, there was NO INFORMATION AT ALL ABOUT ANY RISK or similar, just regular information about the car that can be obtained for free on all other websites. Liars, NEVER again Carfax!
Inaccurate info and does not update properly
Even though dealers have submitted service info, it is still telling me I need certain services. All were done but it does not update accordingly.
Great
I have used to check 3 of my cars and it did good job.
Other vin history sites make you pay and you may not even have history.
Carfax is useless garbage
Carfax is useless garbage. How they ever got a good reputation is beyond my understanding. First, the facts they offer all all self-reported, so are unreliable. For instance, a used car I just bought was previously owned by a dealer who used it as a demo and loaner car. Carfax reported that it was owned by an individual. Second, their website is crap. The "Original Window Sticker" link is completely dead. For other links, it just sits there spinning and spinning, no response. Third, I paid for two reports yet it won't allow me to get a second one. What a hunk o' junk and a waste of good money.
Looks Good Online, But Completely Misleading in Reality
In my experience, Carfax is very misleading and unreliable. One of the biggest issues is that the prices shown for vehicles on their platform are often not accurate. Many of the listings appear attractive at first, but when you contact the dealership, you find out the actual price is much higher due to hidden fees that were never disclosed in the advertisement.
Another major problem is that some vehicles are advertised as Certified Pre-Owned (CPO), but when you check with the dealer, they are not actually certified. This creates confusion and wastes a lot of time for buyers.
Additionally, there are serious concerns about the accuracy of the information provided. Many users have reported that Carfax reports can be incomplete or incorrect, sometimes missing important details about a vehicle’s history or showing misleading information.
Overall, Carfax gives a false sense of trust. Between inaccurate listings, hidden costs, and questionable vehicle details, it makes the car-buying process more frustrating instead of helping it.
Thomas Nissan Of Joliet Rocks !
My Review is For The Excellent Service I Received ; At Thomas Nissan On Larkin In Joliet. On March 25th, I Had Taken My Car In To The Dealership. I Was Greeted by Robert Basile. He was Busy With Other Customers. Yet He Made It A Point To Come Over And Say Hello And That He Would Be Right With Me. I Appreciated That. I Had Some Questions I Asked Robert . He Took My Car And It Was Checked Out Completely. Everything Was Explained To Me Thoroughly. My Car Was Washed And Waiting For Me When It Was Done. It Is So Nice To Be Treated Kindly And As If You Truly Matter ! Like A Valued Customer ! THANK YOU.
I purchased a vehicle from Covert CDJR…
I purchased a vehicle from Covert CDJR Bee Cave with a clean CarFax report. The dealer advertised the vehicle as a CPO and the CarFax report reflected that. However the vehicle has never been a CPO vehicle per Stellantis, it was sold at auction with unibody damage with less than 10k miles, none of which is reflected on the CarFax report. I submitted all of the public records that I obtained and sent in a request to have it updated. After several weeks, I received an email from Mike, my resolution specialist, that stated it wasn’t sold at auction and to please complete their customer service survey.
He didn’t check or investigate a single thing or update the report.
