Good comminication

Good comminication. Got a good plumber. However, the 'leave a review' and 'job finished' process is flawed.

Not impressed by this Consumer NZ run…

Not impressed by this Consumer NZ run website. Not only is my current plan not present, the recommendation was wrong and should have said stay with your current supplier. Worse still is the email address requirement to see the results, used to harvest your email and harass you with Spam like urgency messages. It feels like Consumer NZ is getting backhanders from their recommendations and are desperate to close the deal at your cost.

Steve's Appliance Spares (which is another name for this site) had the fastest delivery ever. Placed ordinary order at noon, recieved it by 1pm next day. The item was a replacement remote control - so appreviated how fast this was; and the remote was a perfect replacement.

WH-1000XM5 headset

WH-1000XM5 headset. After 7 months, the right swivel hinge popped out of the headband. I took the headset back to the retailer (Harvey Norman) who sent this to Sony NZ in auckland.

Sony replied "the issue being reported is considered to be physical damage in nature. Hence, the warranty of the product cannot be applied. We can arrange a repair request and have our service centre contact you in 2 business days to discuss the repair but charges will apply."

As Harvey Norman is legally liable for the repair, replacement or refund - my response of "This issue appears to be consistent with a known design flaw reported by other users, as documented in public forums and articles such as Headphonesty’s January 2024 report. The failure occurred without any misuse or impact, and I believe it constitutes a breach of the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 (NZ), particularly the guarantee of acceptable quality and durability." was sufficient for Harvey Norman to force Sony to repair the headset at no cost. Two weeks later, I got my repaired headset back.

For those interested - had Sony rejected that request, the fault would become a 'major fault'. Under NZ law, I could force Harvey Norman to replace or refund the headset. Any pushback would have resulted in a Disputes Tribunal claim being raised - something Sony would not want as that would expose them to legal scrutiny.

The Disputes Tribunal in NZ is a quick, cheap, and informal way to resolve civil disputes (up to $30,000) without lawyers, using a referee to help parties reach agreements or make binding decisions on issues like faulty goods.

Complicated cost hiding price structure where you pay more for youe electricty

Powershop have a complicated dual peak/non-peak rates with a high daily charge with each month's kWH rates for different for the future months. This makes it nearly impossible to calculate whether you will be better off with them. I had to input their next 12 months varaible rates into a spreadsheet, calculate the daily rate using 8/16 peak/non-peak hours per day, apply that rate to my last 12 monthly kWH usage to see that Powershop are more costly than Mercury.

24/03/25 JB Hi-Fi selling Sony WH-1000XM5 for $468 when stores around them were selling at $438. JB Hi-Fi response - we'll match the other price. Why would I benefit JB Hi-Fi with my custom if they do not make the effort?

Really diificult to find the pieces…

Really diificult to find the pieces based on the tiny The 2d representation of the 3d pieces in the instructions. Took me 10 minutes to find 2 shapes (shapes #1, #3) and you have to assemble them in order (1,2,3 ...) so still have not connected two pieces.
Wish they had made it easier by stamping the numbers on the pieces :(

Austrialian company that does the same thing as the Warehouse marketplace site. Anything you order is posted by the stores that advertise on their site. These stores are responsible of delivery of your items and charge international shipping rate ($25NZD vs $6.50NZD for NZ based stores)

Rubbish container for samples on BA

Either British Airways or The White Company (TWC) is destroying this companies reputation. The business class offering for TWC is a purse containing sample TWC products HOWEVER the zip on the purse is ABSOLUTE RUBBISH, and is nearly impossible to open. No idea if this the fault of TWC or of BA.

You cannot set up a Direct Debit until the next payment is due 🙄

I wanted to setup a Direct Debit to pay for the next annual renewal. However I have been told by Customer Services that - as I have already paid for this years policy - I WILL HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL NEXT YEAR to set up the Direct Debit. So Coop does not want to lock a customer into pay and forget payments - weird decision to allow me to shop around for policies next year 🙄 especially as the policy had not been compared recently - so I am paying 2 x the price of a new customer - planning to cancel the policy and purchase a better / cheaper policy!

Reply from Co-op Insurance

Hi Bryan

We're unable to set up a direct debit on a policy if the policy is paid in full for the year. We issue renewals around 4 weeks before the renewal date to give time for customers to get in touch with any changes they wish to make. In this case, you could contact us to change to direct debit payments and future renewals would be issued on that basis each year.
