ADJUSTABLE STOVEPIPE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 779,257, dated January 3, 1905.
Application filed January 30, 1904. Serial No. 191,346.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, CHARLES A. BoYER and DANIEL C. PEoK, citizens of the United States, residing at Marengo, in the county of Me- Henry and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Stovepipes, of which the following is a specification.
Our invention relates to new and useful improvements in fasteners for stovepipes; and its object is to provide a simple and inexpensive device of this character whereby a section of a stovepipe can be securely clamped at any suitable point upon another section.
The invention consists of a pipe-section having a split end, and to one side of the split portion is secured a rod, the other end of which is eccentrically connected to a disk revolubly mounted on the other side of the split portion. An arm extends from this disk and has a hook thereon whereby the same may be locked to the rod after the split portion of the section has been drawn together by the rod.
The invention also consists in the further novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter more fully described and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, showing the preferred form of our invention, and in which t Figure 1 is a side elevation of the interlocking ends of Stovepipe-sections having our improved clamping device thereon. Fig. 2 is a section on line 2 2, Fig. 1; and Fig. 3 is a detail View of the operating-disk and its arm.
Referring to the figures by numerals of reference, 1 is a pipe-section having overlapping edges 2 at one end, and adjacent one of these edges is secured an ear 3, while adjacent the other edge is a pin 4, on which is revolubly mounted a disk 5. This disk has an aperture 6 formed eccentrically therein, and this aperture and the ear 3 are engaged by the hooked ends of a rod 7. An arm 8 extends from the disk 5 and has a thumb-piece 9 formed integral therewith, and. a hook 10 extends from this arm and is adapted to be sprung in position over rod 7.
The pipe-section 1 is slightly larger in diameter than the section 11 to be inserted thereinto. After the section 11 has been adjusted to proper position within section 1 the disk 5 is rotated, by means of arm 8, so as to draw the ear 3 toward the pin 4, and the end of the section 1 is thus firmly clamped upon section 11. The disk 5 is secured in its adjusted position by springing the hook 10 over the rod 7.
It will be seen that the device is very simple in construction, and by using the same it becomes unnecessary to cut away a pipe-section in order to make the stovepipe of the proper length.
In the foregoing description we have shown the preferred form of our invention; but we do not limit ourselves thereto, as we are aware that modifications may be made therein without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages thereof, and we therefore reserve the right to make such changes as fairly fall within the scope of our invention.
Having thusfully described the invention, what is claimed as new is 1. In a device of the character described, the combination with a contractible pipe-section having overlapping edges; of a disk revolubly mounted upon the section, a rod extending across said edges and secured at one end to the section and eccentrically connected to the disk, an arm extending from the disk, and a rod-engaging hook upon the arm.
2. In a device of the character described the combination with a pipe-section; of a second pipe-section slidably mounted thereon and having a contractible end provided with overlapping edges, a disk revolubly mounted upon said second section, arod extending across said edges and secured at one end to the said section and eccentrically secured at its other end to the disk, an arm extending from the disk, and a rod-engaging hook upon the arm.
