STOVE PIPE AND COLLAR HOLDER.
No. 405,565. Patented June 18, 1889.

GEBHARD KOEB AND JACOB l3. KORN, OF SPRINGFIELD, OHIO.
STOVE-PIPE AND COLLAR HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 405,565, dated June 18, 1889.
Application filed August 9, 1888.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, GEBHARD KOEB and J ACOB B. KoRN, citizens of the United States, residing at Springfield, in the county of Clark and State of Ohio, have invented certain new irrespective of the presence or absence of the pipe, as during the time when the pipe is not in use, and, thirdly, to hold the cap which fills the hole during the time the pipe is not in use, as in summer.
In the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, Figure 1 represents a perspective View of the device entire; Fig. 2, a partial sectional and partial side elevation of the device applied to a stove-pipe hole, the stove-pipe, and the collar, the latter devices being shown in section, as also the ad jacent portion of the wall; Fig. 3, a detail view of a modified form of constructing a portion of the device, and Fig. 4; a side elevation of the device with the pipe-holding band omitted.
The letter A designates the wall of a building, in which is the usual stove-pipe hole B, which opens at one end into the room and at the other end into the fine or chimney. This hole is sometimes lined with a metallic sleeve or thimble G. A portion of the stove-pipe D is shown projected into the hole, and one of the usual collars E applied to the pipe and the wall.
The letter F designates the collar-holding portion proper of the device, which consists of the side bars G and the swivel-nut H, with which the bars connect, either both by means of ascrew-threaded portion 1, or one of them by said thread and the other in the manner shown at J in Figs. 1, 2, and 4, which consists in pivoting one end of the side bar to the nut by means of a rivet or screw K. It is pre- Serial No. 282,361. (No model.)
ferred, for the purpose of economy, to use but one screw threaded portion I and a pivotal connection with one side bar, instead of the form illustrated in Fig. 3. The free ends of these bars turn outwardly to engage with the collar E, being turned more or less, according to the configuration of the collar at the part where they engage with it.
The letter L designates the pipe or cap holding portion of the device, which consists of a circular metallic band or wire adapted to embrace the pipe or the flange of the cap, as the case may be, and provided With two eyes M, through which is passed a bolt 0, having a nut P, by which the band is clamped around the pipe or cap flange. It is preferred to make this band and the pivoted member of the side pieces of a single piece of wire bent to the form illustrated in Fig. 1.
The manner of using the device is as fol lows: It is placed in connection with the other parts, as illustrated in Fig. 2, and before the pipe is inserted the hand is applied to the swivel-nut, and one or both of the side bars projected outwardly from it by means of the screw-threads, and impinged against the wall of the hole, or against the thimble C, if it be used. This secures the side bars, and consequently the collar. The pipe or cap is then inserted and the bolt 0 and nut P manipulated to draw the band tightly upon them and hold them in place.
Having thus fully described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The combination, with the side bars and the collar with which their free ends are 0011- structed to engage and a connecting screwthreaded nut which expansively connects the other ends of said bars, of a band connected to one of them and provided with devices to contract its circumference.
ing outwardly-turned free ends and a swivelnut adj ustably connecting their inner ends, of a band connected to one of them and having two eyes, and a bolt fitted to said eyes, by which the band may be circumferentially contracted.
3. The combination, with the swivel-nut, of a side bar and a band composed of'one piece 2. The combination with the side bars havof wire, with a bend in the body to constitute an eye, and a bend at the free end of the band portion to constitute another eye, a bolt fitted to said eyes and having a nut, and another side bar having one end turned outwardly and the other inwardly and provided with a thread which engages the swivel-nut.
4. The combination, with the swivel-nut, of side bars having their free ends turned outwardly and one of them provided with an inwardly-turned screw-threaded port-ion which engages said nut, and the other of them pivotally connected with the opposite end of the nut.
5. The combination, with the side bars and a band connected to one end of one of said side bars and provided with devices to contract its circumference, of a connecting screwthreaded nut which expansively connects the other ends of said bars.
In testimony whereof we affix 0 ur signatures in presence of two witnesses.
GEBHARD KOEB. JACOB B. KORN.
