- IMPROVED COMPOSITION FOR ROOFING.
flilge fitlgibul: ttfttttil in in illtt't iteitm 33mm mm mating gym at figs smite.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, DAVID GREEN, of Brookfield township, Noble county, Ohio, have invented a, new and improved Composition for Roofing and other purposes; and I do hereby declare that the following is a. full and exact description thereof.
The nature of my invention consists in grinding or pulverizing bituminous coal to a flour, and mixing it with coal-tar.
To enable others to make and use my composition, I will describe the manner in which I prepare and use it.
I first run the bituminous coal through an iron mill, (used for grinding corn on the 001),) and then grind it in a. common grist-mill fine as flour, and mix it with coal-tar about as thick as mortar for plastering, then apply it to the roof, after it is covered with boards and two thicknesses of coarse paper or felting.
I do not claim the invention of using paper and coal-tor for roofing. I am aware that paper and coal-tar have been used for roofing, with sand and slate; but I claim that neither has been used with bituminous cool. I am of the opinion, after experimenting with different things, that bituminous coal, mixed with coal-tar, is the best composition ever invented for roofing.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
Reducing bituminous coal to Hour, and mixing it with coal-tar, and using it for roofing and other purposes for which the composition may be useful.
DAVID GREEN.
