RECEPTACLE FOR GLOVES, 84,0.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 551,692, dated December 17, 1895.
Application led May 4, 1895. Serial No` 548,095. (No model.)
To @ZZ whom t may concern,.- f
Be it known that I, ADOLPH E. G. SCHMIDT, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Brooklyn, county of Kings, and State -of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Receptacles for Gloves or other Articles, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
This invention relates to glove boxes or receptacles, and the object thereof is tov provide a box or receptacle in which gloves may be stored or retained, and also in which they may be held under pressure and retained in their original shape, a further object being to provide a device for pressing and restoring gloves to their original form after they have once been handled or examined, or even after they have been tried on or worn, my improved glove receptacle and press being1 adapted both for personal or private use and for use in stores or similar places.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specificatio'n, of which the accompanying drawings form a part, in which- Figure 1 is a plan or side elevation of my improved glove receptacle and press with gloves therein, the front being removed; Fig. 2, across-section of the receptacle and press with cover in place, and Fig. 3 a longitudinal section thereof with the cover removed.
In the practice of my invention I provide a rectangular box or oase, having a back A, top B,bottom O,ends D, and a removable cover orfront E. (Shown in section in Fig. 2.)
Within the box or case, near each end, are secured plates or partitions F, which form, in connection with the ends D, narrow chambers G, and the plates or partitions F are provided with slots G, adapted to receive projections or shoulders K, formed on the ends of a Inovable head-plate or follower L, and within each ofthe narrow chambers G is a spring M, one end of which is secured to one of the projections or shoulders on the follower L, and the other end of which is secured to the bottom or one of the sides C of the case, which serves The operation of the springs M is to draw the follower L constantly in the direction of the arrow shown in Fig. I, and the operation of the device is as follows:
The follower L is raised and the gloves folded as desired and placed beneath it, as shown at N, Fig. 1, and as many as desired, or as many as the case will hold, may be so placed, in which position the follower will securely hold them, being drawn downwardly or in the direction of the arrow by the constant actionof the spring M, and the pressure on the gloves will be regulated entirely by or depend upon the strength of the springs.
Of course the gloves maybe removed from the press whenever necessary and others placed therein, and, if desired, means maybe provided for holding the follower or head L at any desired point or position while the gloves are being folded and arranged' in place.
My improved glove receptacle and press is simple in construction and operation, comparatively inexpensive, and well adapted to 7 5 produce the results for which it is intended, and I do not regard my invention as limited to the exact form of construction and combination of parts shown, as many changes therein and modications thereof may be readily made without departing from the scope thereof.
Having fully described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. In a glove receptacle and press, the combination with a box or case having a removable cover or top, of a spring operated follower, and plates or partitions near eachv end of the box, having slots therein which operate as guides for the follower and keep it in place, substantially as shown and described.
2. A glove receptacle and press comprising a box or case, having slotted partitions or plates near each end, and a spring operated follower provided with projections or shoulders which extend through the slots in the partitions, substantially as shown and described.
3. A glove receptacle and press, comprising a box or case, having partitions near each end provided with longitudinal slots, a follower provided with shoulders or projections which extend through said slots, and a spring located IOO ence of two witnesses, this 2d day of May, 1895.
ADOLPII E. G. SCHMIDT.
